Maddie POV

As I walked home to my small apartment, I took a sip of my Dr. Pepper.

I glanced behind me at the two men that were there. You could just barely see their faces.

They looked like they could be twins, same roundish face, same nose, same mouth. The only thing that was different was their skin tone. One was clearly African-American, and the other was Caucasian.

"If you're following someone you could at least dress less suspiciously." I mumbled to myself before chugging my Dr. Pepper.

The African-American dude was dressed in a white trench coat, a white fedora, and really dark sunglasses. The Caucasian man was wearing the same except everything he wore was black.

I looked back again and noticed a girl push past the two men, staring at the ground, and another girl was watching the girl and the men from a chair at a pizza place.

The first girl looked at the second girl and then at me, almost as if she was expecting me to do something.

At this point I was turned around and staring at everyone with everyone staring back.

The two men quickly went into the pizzeria and the girl sitting at the pizzeria ate more of her pizza, but still watched me.

The first girl walked over to the second girl who pushed a plate of pizza at the first girl.

I put my ear buds in and turned on my music, continuing my day like nothing had happened.

Maria POV

I looked over at Valdez who looked back at me. We looked back over to the girl as we ate more of our pizza. Valdez elbowed me in the ribs and pointed to two men who were watching the girl from the pizzeria window.

"They've been following her all day." Valdez mumbled.

"Well, at least they don't suspect us. And haven't you been following her all day, too?" I asked.

"That's not the point Maria." Valdez huffed.

"Hold on, I got a call coming in from Annabeth. Yeah?" I asked, picking up the phone.

"You guy- hur- the king is getting annoyed with your absence." The call was bad but this was what happens when you call earth.

"I have barely been gone for five hours! And Valdez has only been gone for about a day!"

"And we'll stay here as long as it takes! There's this girl and Maria confirmed that she's a Special. And there are two men following her and if they get a sure sign before we do, she's as good as gone. Tell that to the king." Valdez said.

Annabeth said a couple more words that weren't understandable before I hung up. Valdez and I went back to eating our pizza before we saw the two men burst out of the pizzeria. They started speed walking towards the girl who was now freaking out.

The girls phone seemed to be going crazy, it was in the air, sparking, switching through multiple apps. The girl swiped at her phone, trying to get it under control but every time her hand would get near it it would just get worse.

"MARIA!" Valdez yelled.

Valdez and I ran towards the girl and the two men started running too. A couple people nearby pulled out their phones to try and take pictures and videos, but their phones would go crazy too.

I jumped slightly and I started running faster than the speed of light, grabbing Valdez on my way by. It only took a split second to reach the girl. Even though we couldn't see the men's eyes we could tell they were glaring at us.

"Run! Hurry!" I yelled.

Valdez took the girl's hand and started running while I stayed behind, ready to fight off the two people.

"You sure you'll be alright?!" Valdez yelled.

"Yeah! I have a spiked bat that I got from a shady site!" I yelled back.

I pulled a black bat with a bunch of silver spikes out of the tiny bag hanging from my shoulder. The men stopped, not having weapons on them. Growling, one of the men grabbed the shoulder of the other man and they turned around and walked away.

Valdez POV

As I ran out of breath, I dragged the girl into a nearby McDonald's. The girl was already nearly passed out. She must have low stamina. I bought her a drink and some food to make up for dragging her around town.

"Who... who were they?" She asked out of breath and panting.

"We don't know their name, or the name of the company they work for. All we know is they're bad people."

"Why were they...-" She heaved really quickly. "My lungs burn. Why were they following me? Me of all people?! I have a boring life!"

I can't really explain it here. I'll explain once we get to my home. We have to wait for Maria before we can go home first though... And sorry about the whole lungs thing... we'll get someone to help with that."

"Maria...?" It occurred to me that we hadn't introduced ourselves.

"Yeah, Maria. She's like a little sister to me. I'm Valdez by the way. You are...?" I asked.

"Maddie." She said, shoving another handful of fries in her mouth. "Why are their fries so salty?" She asked, chugging her drink.

"Sorry again about dragging you around the city. If there's anything else I can get for you-"

"A large chocolate milkshake...?" She asked, trying not to smile.

I smiled and got up to order her milkshake.

That's it so far! I'll keep adding in more characters as the story goes on. I'll be adding people outside of the demi-wizards too. I hope that this will be a great way to introduce all of my friends to each other!

I will also hopefully get a cover on this book before long... Not right now though...
