The Day the Dragons Disappear

Chapter 1

Year X777

Luna excitedly pumped her fist up in the air. A combination of water and glitter surrounding her fist.

"WooHoo! When can we battle again? I wanna fight!" She yelled as the dragon covered her ears with her claws.

"Hmm..." The dragon thought for a second. The brilliant sun shining against her blue scales. Her gold eyes seemed to look up for a moment before talking. "If you shut up for a few seconds, we can battle tomorrow!"

"Yes!" The five-year old yelled as she dashed towards the forest and into the lake. "I'll catch dinner tonight! My treat, ya old dragon!"

An irk mark formed on her head but quickly disappeared as she watch the child catch the fish. Her silver hair was tied into a ponytail (like Erza's) and her brown eyes seemed to match the color of caramel. On her wrists dangled three blue magic limiters. A device that stores ones magic because they have too much.

Aqua sighed as she laid down. Her eyes still nested on the child in the distance. She loved watching the energetic child play and fight. A grin always plastered on her face.

"Water Dragon's Hurricane!" Luna shouted as a hurricane flew out of the palm of her hand and onto the water. She made the hurricane smaller and smaller as more and more fish flew onto land.

As Luna walked out of the water, she frowned as she then realized that she has to collect all the fish and put it in a pile. She groaned and began working.

Another thing that amused her was that Luna didn't even realize the destruction that laid around her. Broken trees littered the place and grass and dirt were scattered everywhere.

Aqua chuckled. She was happy that one, she didn't have to make dinner. And two, she gets to watch the child do the work while muttering things a five-year old isn't supposed to say.

Before she knew it, the sun had disappeared from the sky and was replaced by the crescent moon joined with its buddies, the stars.

"Finally!" Luna yelled in the distance. "Dinner's ready!"

The dragon smiled as she stood up and quickly flew towards the beach. A huge fire was already cooking the fish one by one. "Surprised you actually caught fish and not eat it all," Aqua teased while throwing a cooked fish in her mouth.

Luna puffed her cheeks up. "At least I'm not the one who sleeps with a huge teddy bear every night and drools!"

"Just wait for tonight when you're the teddy bear!" Aqua then cackled as the fire created a shadow behind her. Luna shivered at the thought.

After dinner, the two went back into the forest but right out of the cave.

Aqua burped and sighed as she rubbed her stomach with Luna mimicking. "Well," said Aqua. "Lookie here. The stars are at their brightest this time of year."

"Yup," Luna said, popping the 'p'. "I wonder if the celestial magic can shine as bright as these stars."

Aqua chuckled. "With hard work and a passionate heart, the magic will shine brighter than anything that you can ever imagine."

"That sounded cheesy," Luna commented.

The dragon snorted and playfully rolled her eyes. "Whatever. With that recklessness of yours, I'm not surprised if you get destroyed by the time you're ten."

"Hey! That's not what a motherly dragon should say!"

"Where have you been?" Aqua sighed.

--

Luna awoke with the sound of cracked twigs and sticks. The soft and melodic sound of chirping birds filled the air.

After last night, when Aqua literally tried to hug her to death, Luna seemed to be happy for some odd reason.

But something surprised her this particular morning. One, the usual snoring and warmth next to her every morning was gone. She was happy that there was no snoring but unhappy when the warmth was gone. And two, she heard voices!

She immediately snapped open her eyes only to find that the dragon was missing. Not even a single trace that she was there. Her usual 'odor' as she would say was gone. (Normal people would say smell but she said odor just to piss the dragon off.)

Luckily, since Luna had good hearing, the people with the hushed voices should be a little far away. She hastily stood up and dusted her blue tank top and black skirt. She hurriedly shoved a pair of socks and her usual blue converse shoes and ran outside. Her silver hair swaying back and forth in its ponytail.

The voices seemed to be closer to the point when she thought that they were a few feet away.

Now, Luna wasn't the quiet type but today she was determined to be quiet for once. She tip-toed across the field and in the opposite direction of the voices. She then heard their conversation.

"Are you sure that there's a strong child Mage here?" Asked a male voice. "It just seems too good to be true. I mean strong mages whom are kids are rare. Like Ur's child, Ultear."

"Yes, I am sure," said a gruff male's voice. "Do you doubt my judgement?"

"N-no, sir."

Luna smirked when she saw the clearing ahead. A small town that looked overcrowded was only a few minutes away if she stayed quiet and keep on tip-toeing.

Only about some more minutes, she thought.

But she tripped, causing a a bunch of twigs snap and her yelping. Luna didn't know how fast they were, but they appeared in a flash. Literally. A huge light blinded her for a few seconds.

"There you are," said the same gruff voice. "We have been looking for you."

Even though her eyesight was still filled with random blobs dancing in her vision every time she blinked, she saw around ten people with some kind of odd cloth covering their faces. The one that looked like the leader, however, carried a huge staff that had a skull at the top. He had white grayish hair that reached his shoulders and tanned skin.

Luna did what her instincts told her. Run. She got up at abnormal speed and ran as fast as she could, yelling, "You ugly bastards will never catch me! And also that guy with an ass for a face!"

Just when Luna was about to set one foot into the town, a force pulled her back making her land on the ground. A bunch of those face covering guys immediately grabbed her and pulled her further and further away from the town. The sound of chattering and yelling disappearing.

"Now, now," said the same man with the staff. "We're not going to hurt you, young one."

Luna snorted and rolled her eyes. Part of her wanted to run and look for her psycho yet loving dragon and the other part wanted to rest. Being dragged faced down and running somewhere while being quiet this early in the morning was tiring.

Ignoring what Luna just did, the man continued. "My name is Brain. I can help you with your magic power. Seeing that you are wearing magic limiters."

He eyed the bracelets momentarily as if it was unnatural for a kid to be wearing one. His eyes were filled with greed and power. The kind of person that Aqua had warned her about. That and rapists, pedophiles, perverts, and just plain old creepy guys. (It was an awkward conversation considering she talked about it when Luna turned five last year.)

Anyway, Luna thought for a moment. There was no way she could nail him in 'it' then run away. It was sorta more like a suicidal thing to do with a bunch of people that work for him surrounding her. There was only one way. And that was what Luna had been waiting for-to battle.

She quickly jumped up with water surrounding her earning gasps. "Water Dragon's Wing Attack!" She formed her hands in an X formation an pulled it apart with water that's filled with celestial glitter inside. The attack hit them straight on giving Luna about a five second chance to dash into town. The sound of yelling fading behind her.

"Get the brat!" Was the last thing she heard before she blended into the crowd.

--

One thing that Luna realized that her one and only dragon was gone. Yeah, she was annoying and loud like her but she was family. Aqua would say that they would be inseparable at first when she was a baby but when Luna grew up over the years, Aqua said that she was terribly wrong. Saying that both of them would annoy each other until the end of the world.

Luna looked at her bracelet. It was made of pure blue dragon scales that made her wonder just how the dragon made it. She shook her head and continued walking. Some men glanced at her while others stared making her run away from them.

Morning soon became night as Luna still wondered the streets. Her stomach growling crazily and her feet getting tired. Her mouth felt like it was filled with sand for days without water.

Water.

She hadn't thought of that when she was thirsty. Usually, she would go to the lake to drink but she never drank her own water. Slowly, Luna pulled out her hand. On her palm sparked water without the celestial glitter that provided extra power during an attack. She hastily splashed the water onto her face and drank some.

In the distance, an explosion sounded earning screams and yells. Luna watched in horror as men walked out of the fire holding sacks. She quickly ran into the closest place she could find which was the alleyway. But there was nothing that she could find to hide in there. Only old bricks.

"Kill all the adults and get the kids!" Shouted a man. More explosions sounded after that. Intense heat filled the area making her panic even more.

Luna quickly tried to run out the alley only to find a man standing in front of her with a huge grin plastered on his face. His black hair was all over the place and his clothes were raggedy.

"Why, hello there," he spoke in a creepy calm manner. Luna took a step back. "Why don't you come to me, little girl. You will have the time of your life when you come with me. It's to DIE for!"

With that, Luna ran back into the alley. The huge brick wall blocked her path. She was cornered. For once, she was too scared to speak even a single word or insult.

"Come now," he said while holding the sack up. Luna felt like she was an animal about to get caught.

She built up all of her courage at that moment and yelled, "Celestial Water Dragon's Roar!" A dragon's roar that sounded familiarly like Aqua sounded at first but it was quickly replaced by a hurricane-like magic coming out of her mouth with shining stars outside the hurricane and going towards the man.

It hit him on impact but was still standing when the attack ended. This was her first time to actually summon magic of two elements in a spell. She felt proud that she actually did that but that little hope was extinguished when the man became from calm to furious. He quickly placed the sack over her small and frail body and began kicking and punching her inside the sack.

Luna coughed and gagged while she put her arms protectively over her stomach. Just when he thought that she had had enough, he threw the sack down making a sickening CRACK sound from her left arm. She screamed at the top of her lungs and whimpered. She never knew why she didn't cry even when she was a baby, but even now, she didn't even shed a single tear. Bruises formed all over body and she was bleeding in on some places. She tried to move her left arm but huge pain was the result from that. Even thinking about her throbbing arm seemed to worsen it even more.

Now, she REALLY missed Aqua no matter how annoying she is.

"That's what you get for making my beautiful face wet from your pathetic magic," he said while he made his way to who knows where.
