Paying a Visit

Wendy had just packed all her belongings into her luggage bag. She sighed, looking around at the now empty room. She looked at the time.

12 o' clock.

She had promised she would meet Lucy outside her apartment at one. She couldn't help but feel tears starting to well up in her eyes. She remembered how welcomed she felt when she joined the guild after she lost Caitshelter. She remembered she and the other two Dragon slayers teamed up in Edolas. She didn't really want to leave that all behind.

She didn't know why Lucy wanted to quit, but she couldn't just leave the blonde alone like that, she decided, standing up before making her way to the door.

Carla walked to her side, giving her an encouraging smile, before holding her hand as the two of them walked out the door.
---

Lucy was standing outside her apartment, her pink luggage bag in hand. She spotted Wendy, and waved in her direction. She hadn't intended to bring Wendy along, but the girl had insisted that she come.

"Are you ready to go?" Lucy asked. Wendy smiled and nodded, trying to convince both Lucy and herself that she really wanted this. Lucy's eyes softened a little, and gently placed a hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" The armour piercing question had finally arrived, begging for an answer from her. There was no turning back now, Wendy realised. She nodded in affirmation.

"Alright, then. But before that, I'd like to pay a visit to someone." Lucy said. Wendy looked at her in confusion. Who could Lucy possibly want to meet at a time like this? Her father? She had heard stories about him from Lucy, and he didn't really sound like the kind of person Lucy, or anyone, really, would turn to when she's down in the dumps. "Who?" Wendy asked.

"Someone who just might have the key to make us stronger."

---

The pink haired woman stared rather menacingly at the three of them. The trio just stood there, not knowing how to react. Should they start with a 'Hi'? Or would she not appreciate the greeting?

After a few painfully long seconds, the door slammed shut before them.

"Scram!" Porlyusica yelled from inside her house. Lucy sighed. Great, they had come all the way here for nothing. Well, there was no harm in trying now, wasn't there?

"Sorry to bother you, ma'am! But we were wondering if you had any potions that could help us become stronger!" Lucy apologised before stating the very reason they had come in the first place.

Carla turned to look at Wendy, whose hands were wrung together in what seemed to be fear or worry. The girl stared at her shoes, her expression that of a disturbed one. "What's the matter, child? You seem upset," Carla asked the girl in concern.

Wendy simply shook her head silently in response. It was at that moment Porlyusica opened the entrance to her house. Did she finally have a change of mind? Lucy wondered hopefully. Her hopes were dashed when she spotted the broom in the woman's hand.

"You know I hate people, so get lost!" Porlyusica shouted at them. "Shoo! Shoo!" She swung her broom at them madly. The three of them took off running in shock. "Sorry to bother you!" Lucy exclaimed while she ran.

"And don't ever think of coming back, you fools!"

Wendy's eyes widened slightly as she stopped in her tracks. She whirled over to look at the woman, but her actions went unnoticed by the fleeing Lucy and Carla. Porlyusica didn't scold her for doing so, and she only stared at her, her expression seemingly beginning to soften ever so slightly.

After noticing that her friends were a bit too far away for her liking, Wendy turned back and continued running.

---

The three of them rested by a shady tree, exhausted. "Hey, whose brilliant idea was it to visit Porlyusica in the first place?" Lucy muttered to herself as she gasped for breath.

"Yours. I've always heard she wasn't fond of people but I never expected all that," Carla said, before the two of them couldn't help but notice how silent the blue haired girl had been since they arrived at the woman's house.

Lucy glanced at Wendy before gasping when she saw the tears in her eyes. The girl sniffled, her tears threatening to spill at any time. "H-Hey! It's gonna be okay!" Lucy tried to reassure her hurriedly. Was she really that upset that Porlyusica didn't want to help them? Or was she frightened by the woman's rather violent way of chasing them away? Lucy would guess the latter, but Wendy had grown since their fight against the Oracion Seis. She remembered how brave she was when she fought in Edolas. There was no way an old lady would be able to scare Wendy just like that? "We'll find another way to get stronger!" Lucy added, deciding that the reason behind her tears was the former.

Carla could only stare in shock as Wendy quickly shook her head, wiping her tears away. "It's not like that... She's just so familiar..." Wendy began. Familiar? What could the girl possibly mean by that? Had she and Porlyusica met before? If so, then why was the woman so harsh towards her? Lucy couldn't help the thoughts that were zooming around in her mind, back to back. "Have you two met before?" Carla asked.

"I don't really know how to explain it exactly... It sounds strange, but it's the truth!" Wendy put her hands down, revealing her red and sore eyes. "Her voice... And her scent... They're so much like Grandeeney's!" Lucy and Carla gasped. Could this possibly mean that the dragons turned into humans in the year X777? Lucy couldn't help but wonder.

"How can a regular person have the same voice and scent as a dragon?" The blonde wondered aloud. "I haven't the foggiest, I'm afraid," Carla said. "What exactly do you mean by that, child?"

Wendy sniffled again, before responding, "I don't know... But she's so familiar... It's confusing! She sounds and smells exactly like my mother, the Sky Dragon Grandeeney!"

Lucy paused momentarily, before saying, "Hang on a second, something doesn't quite add up. First of all, the dragons vanished without a trace in the year X777, which was seven years ago. But Master Makarov has known Porlyusica for way longer than that! They were friends when they were both fairly young. So that means she and Grandeeney were around at the same time. I wish it could be true but there's no way they could be one and the same!" Lucy explained.

"You know, when you stop and explain it all like that, it really doesn't make any sense," Wendy agreed. "Besides her voice and the way she smells, her attitude is completely different."

"From the stories that you've told me, your dragon was actually quite kind to people," Carla said, corroborating Wendy's opinion on the dragon. Wendy nodded vigorously before standing up. "Grandeeney was nice! She didn't hate anybody!"

"I'm sure your mother will appreciate such kind words." A voice said.

Lucy turned around, only to be faced with the pink haired woman. "Ms. Porlyusica!" Wendy walked tentatively towards the woman, her gaze refusing to break from her. Porlyusica stared at them for a few moments. "There's really no use in hiding it anymore, so I might as well tell you my big secret," she spoke at last.

"I know it's not what you want to hear, but I'm not the dragon you seek. I'm just a human being same as you," she continued. Wendy blinked, letting out a sound of despondency. "I'm afraid I can't tell you where your dragon is. I simply don't know. The fact of the matter is we have no direct connection whatsoever."

"Then how do you explain your similarities?" Lucy asked. "You're familiar with the alternate world of Edolas, are you not? Rumour has it that you've been there. I've heard that you've even met your counterparts and saw how our worlds correlate."

Lucy's eyes widened in realisation and shock. "I think I get it..." she said, barely above a whisper. "Oh my!" Carla exclaimed, quickly catching on. "Every living being in Earthland has a counterpart there, including dragons. So one could argue that I am the Edolas version of your friend Grandeeney. I am not from this world, but I found myself here several decades ago."

"What?!" All three of them exclaimed in surprise. "You're the Edolas Grandeeney?!" Carla asked, dumbfounded. Wendy couldn't formulate words in her head anymore, and even if she could, she doubted that she could bring herself to speak them out.

"I was disoriented when I arrived but Makarov came to my aid. The peacefulness and beauty I discover here quickly endeared me to Earthland. So even though I've had several opportunities to return to Edolas, I had made the decision to call your world my new home."

"Then by connection, Natsu and Gajeel's dragons must have human counterparts as well, and could very well have passed through to Earthland as well!" Carla realised. Lucy grimaced at the mention of the boy's name that now server as a reminder of the job. "I have no idea. I have never encountered them. However, I have had the chance to speak to the Sky Dragon."

Wendy gasped, leaning forward, as if to receive the next piece of information the woman was about to give as quick as possible. "Although, we didn't meet in a traditional sense. It was more mysterious. She spoke directly into my mind by way of telepathy."

Wendy couldn't help but feel a little disappointed by this, but the information had intrigued her nonetheless. Why would Grandeeney want to contact her Edolas counterpart? "You originally came here seeking out a means to gain power. I may be able to help Wendy in that regard. But only her."

Porlyusica reached into the pocket of her coat and pulled out a pile of paper that had been put together into a book. "The Sky Dragon dictated this book of spells to me. It contains the Shattering Light spells, otherwise known as the Sky Dragon Slayer Secret Arts, among other things she never got a chance to teach you."

Wendy took the book from the woman, and looked at it, awestruck. "I don't know what to say... Grandeeney really did this?" She asked, just to make sure she wasn't hearing things. Porlyusica nodded, before saying, "She asked that I give it to you should you ever come by to visit."

Wendy flipped through the book, countless complicated spells decorating every page. "These are very powerful spells, extremely dangerous. So be sure to exercise great caution," Porlyusica warned as she turned on her heel and started to walk back to her home.

Wendy smiled before running over towards the woman. She bowed, and thanked her effusively. "Thank you so much, Ms. Porlyusica!" Wendy paused, wondering if the next part she had wanted to say was in good taste, before deciding to just go for it. "Ms. Grandeeney!" She added, looking up at the woman's back.

Porlyusica couldn't help but smile.
