Chariot

"Welcome back to the Grand Magic Games! I'm your host, Chapati Lola, and today, I'm joined by Yajima, former member of the Magic Council and Jason, a reporter for Sorcerer Weekly!" Chapati announced. "This is so COOL!" Jason yelled into the microphone excitedly.

"As usual, we will begin today's Grand Magic Games with an event!" Chapati continued. "I wonder what kind of event we'll be facing today," Lucy muttered as she stared at the Lacrima vision, waiting for the name of the event to be announced.

"The title of today's event is Chariot!" Chapati stated, the word appearing in bold on the screen. "Chariot...?" Wendy gasped as she quickly covered her mouth with her hands, already feeling like she was about to hurl. "Well, thank goodness you went yesterday," Chelia smiled. "Chariot... I'm quite good at driving..." Michelle said hesitantly. "Do you know how to drive, Chelia?" Lucy asked. "I don't think it matters! This is a magic tournament, they're not gonna have us drive chariots!" Chelia said. "It's my time to shine!" She exclaimed as she stepped forward.

"And the first contestant to step forward is Chelia Blendy of Lamia Scale!" Chapati announced. "First, little Wendy, and now little Chelly Welly? Lamia Scale is just full of adorable little girls!" He cooed.

"From Blue Pegasus, it's Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki!"

Lucy and Wendy shuddered almost automatically upon catching sight of his face that was displayed on the Lacrima vision for all the world to see.

"From Quatro Cerberus, it's Bacchus Groh!"

"Hmm? I don't remember him being on the team yesterday," Michelle said, confused. "I think he's a reserve member. That poor guy must still be recovering from yesterday's battle," Lucy responded.

"Risley Law of Mermaid Heel joins the round!"

"Since I'm the one who usually drives, can I give this a try?" Gwyn asked his teammates, gazing at them hopefully. "Sure, good luck out there," Arthur nodded briskly. The brunette thanked him as he stepped forward. "Will he really be okay out there?" Andrea wondered aloud. "Have some faith in him," Arthur retorted sharply. "Kick their butts! Or maybe not I guess!" Alexis cheered, adding the second part as an afterthought.

"From Wyvern Horn, it's Gwyn Evans!"

"Everyone okay with me doing this one?" Macmillan asked his teammates, who all nodded. "I mean, you're not our most reckless driver. Honestly speaking, without any distractions, you're probably one of our best," Aisling chuckled. "Seeing that Churchfield isn't competing, I should be fine," the redhead nodded.

"Unicorn Mane sends out Alasdair Macmillan!"

"Natsu, take my advice, don't join this event," Gray warned. "Nah! This is the Grand Magic Games! Not the Grand Driving Games! I'll be fine!" Natsu laughed it off as he stepped forward, despite his teammates staunch protests.

"Fairy Tail's Natsu Dragneel looks pretty enthusiastic about this event!"

"If Natsu's joining, I will too," Sting said, announcing his participation without any of teammates approval. "This is most definitely not a good idea," Rufus sighed, covering his face with his hat, seemingly in shame. "You'd think the word 'Chariot' would give it away," Orga said. 'I'm glad it's not me out there,' Rogue thought.

"And finally, from Sabertooth, it's Sting Eucliffe!"

The crowd cheered for their favourite Dragon Slayer. The youth bathed proudly in all his glory, gloating at Natsu. "Can't wait to see you lose this one to me," he taunted, making the pinkette threaten to fight him. Before either of them could engage the other in battle, Chapati began to announce the rules.

"The rules for this event are simple. So long as you remain on the chariots throughout the game until you reach the finish line, you'll help your team earn points!"

A long line of chariots appeared before them. "You will be disqualified if you ever leave the chariots. As such, flying or falling will both end up in a loss!" Mato said.

"A race? I'm all fired up now!" Natsu cracked his knuckles, a wide grin on his face. Chelia had intended to use the flying spell Wendy had taught her, but she just had to find another way to win now. She looked around at her opponents, wondering what strategies they would use. Gwyn, the guy from Wyvern, greeted her with a smile before turning his attention back to the match.

"I hope Chelia will be okay out there..." Wendy muttered worriedly. "She'll be fine, I'm sure of it! She might even get first place while she's at it, considering how fast and agile she is," Lucy assured. Wendy thought about it, before she nodded in agreement. "You're right, Lucy. Chelia will do great in this!" Wendy exclaimed as she went to the edge of the stands and shouted as loud as she could, "Go, Chelia! I know you can do it!"

"Aww, little Wendy is cheering on for her teammate! How cute and charming!" Chapati cooed, making Wendy's face red out of embarassment.

"I think Gwyn's got this in the bag," Logan said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he came first either," Arthur agreed.

"Alasdair and speed don't exactly correlate..." Aisling mumbled under her breath, loud enough for Pierre, who was standing next to her, to hear. "Admittedly, I'm quite worried as well. Alasdair likely would've done better in yesterday's event than this one," Pierre nodded. "I should've gone for this one instead," the redhead sighed. "What's done cannot be undone, I'm afraid. We just have to watch and see how this plays out," the blonde girl said.

"Let the Chariot event, begin!" Chapati yelled.

All eight of them took off at the same time, some already falling behind. Chelia had given herself a boost by using her wind to propel herself forward, so she was in the lead for now. Everyone else was trying to catch up, until someone decided to shake things up a little.

"Oh, Heavens above, I ask that you punish those who misuse your gift of speed, Lethargy!" Gwyn chanted as a white aura surrounded everyone else. "What the-" Chelia gasped as she felt her whole body become heavier, slowing her down.

"A status ailment spell!" Wendy exclaimed from the stands, recognising the type of spell Gwyn had used. If only she was out there with Chelia. She could've used her Raise spell to cancel it out.

"Oh, Heavens above," Gwyn began. He wasn't done yet?! Chelia's eyes widened in shock. "I ask that you grant me the gift of speed to evade the evils that plague our world! Celerity!" Another white aura surrounded him as he boosted his own speed.

That's just like Wendy's spell! Chelia realised as the man sped past her. Chelia prepared another spell to help her get ahead. She blasted herself forward by shooting powerful winds out of her palms that were outstretched behind her back. In no time, she matched Gwyn in speed once again.

He looked surprised to find her next to him, and even more so when Chelia redirected her winds towards his direction. She planned on pushing him off the platform, as he seemed to be her biggest threat at the moment. "Barrier!" He yelled as a large white disk appeared between the two of them. "Black wind... It can't be... You're-" he started before the two of them heard the loud footsteps of their fellow competitors.

Ichiya, rather terrifyingly, had two test tubes of parfum shoved up his nose to boost his speed. Leslie of Mermaid Heel was right behind him, using her own Gravity Magic to overcome Gwyn's speed lowering spell. Alasdair quickly overtook the two of them, using a method similar to Chelia's only with white flames instead of her black wind.

"Arthur's going to kill me if he beats me..." Gwyn muttered to himself upon catching sight of the redhead before he quickly sped off, Chelia following suit. She tried to blast him off the chariots with her magic, but he seemed to be able to block every single one of the spells she threw at him.

Suddenly, the chariots collapsed behind them. All the competitors tumbled to the ground, desperately catching on to the nearest object that was even remotely reminiscent of a handle. Bacchus of Quatro Cerberus ran past them at alarming speeds. Chelia could tell that the man had passed the finish line from the wild cheers of the crowd. She sighed, quickly getting up and tried to catch up with the rest of the competitors.

"In second place, it's Gwyn Evans of Wyvern Horn!"

"Woohoo! In your face, Unicorn!" Alexis cheered. "That Bacchus man really is something else. I'm quite certain that Gwyn had hit him with his Lethargy spell, and yet he still managed to snag first place," Arthur said. "Yeah, no kidding," Logan nodded in agreement.

"In third place, it's Chelia Blendy!"

"You did great Chelia!" Wendy shouted from the stands, smiling sweetly at her. Chelia returned the gesture, trying to stop herself from sighing. Third place again, huh? Guess they'd have to rely on the matches again, Chelia thought sadly as she walked back to the stands.

"In fourth place, it's Leslie of Mermaid Heel!"

"Don't underestimate chubby power!" Leslie winked at the audience as her fellow members of Mermaid Heel congratulated her.

"In fifth place, it's Alasdair Macmillan!"

"Like I said, speed's really not his strong suit," Aisling sighed deeply, grabbing at her fringe in frustration. "You did your best out there," Pierre told the redheaded man, who had just entered the stands. If Alasdair felt even the slightest bit of disappointment, his face betrayed nothing. He's probably just trying to act tough in front of his rival, Lucy thought.

"In sixth place, it's Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki!"

"Poor Natsu... And that guy from Sabertooth too," Lucy stared at the pathetic sight of the two dragon slayers almost passing out, still mere inches away from the starting line. "Thank goodness I didn't go," Wendy repeated. "This has become a battle of endurance for the two of them. Whoever passes out first loses," Michelle stated.

Natsu then loudly professed that he was doing this for the sake of his comrades that he'd left alone for the past seven years. Lucy felt touched by his heartfelt words, even though she knew they weren't directed at her. Wendy was crying too, so Lucy allowed herself to shed her tears.

Natsu managed to reach the finishing line after thirty minutes of excruciating pain, garnering cheers from all over the arena. "And Fairy Tail's Natsu Dragneel scores one point for his team!" Chapati announced both proudly and excitedly. Sting forfeited the event, and ended up getting no points for Sabertooth.

"Now then, after that amazing and sentimental performance, it's time to move on to the battle segment of the day!" Chapati said.

Lucy quickly wiped her tears away, wondering which guild would get to go first. "The first match will be between Wyvern Horn and Lamia Scale!" He stated. "We were last yesterday, so now they're putting us in first as compensation, huh?" Lucy raised an eyebrow. "Since you already went yesterday, I doubt they would call you out again," Wendy said. "I wonder which one of us will it be..." Chelia said.

"From Wyvern Horn, it's Andrea Cervenka!" The brunette woman stepped forward. Her hair was neatly tied into a bun, and her clothes, a brown blouse and matching long pants, were formal and proper, giving Lucy the impression that she was a businesswoman or something, not a mage fighting in the Grand Magic Games.

"Andrea's not that big of a fighter..." Arthur muttered. "And Lamia's already established themselves as formidable opponents," he added. "Come on, she's been training for months! Have some faith in her! Weren't you all about that just now?" Logan exclaimed, gaining an eye roll from Arthur in return.

"And from Lamia Scale, it's Michelle Lobster!" Chapati finished. "Me?!" Michelle exclaimed in shock. "Good luck out there! Don't worry, you'll be fine!" Lucy encouraged the lady as Michelle went down into the arena.

"My, this certainly looks more like a business negotiation than a magic battle," Yajima commented. "Now that you mention it, they do look like business partners than they do mages," Lucy chuckled lightly. Michelle's poofy pink dress didn't exactly seem all that intimidating, but her battle form was truly a force to be reckoned with. Add that to the fact that she couldn't feel any pain, and Michelle was basically invincible. The Wyvern Horn girl shouldn't be underestimated as well, Lucy mentally added. The blonde wondered what kind of magic she used.

"Doesn't look like pinky over there is gonna be much of a challenge, so I guess you were worried for nothing," Alexis commented, staring at Michelle. "There's something odd about her..." Gwyn said, more to himself than his teammates. "I don't think we should be so quick to judge her by her appearance."

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Michelle greeted. Andrea nodded silently, acknowledging the greeting. Mato stepped forward as he was about to officiate the match.

"Now, without further ado, let the match begin!"
