Chapter 5
"Open, gate of the lion, Leo" Izuku chanted be for his room lit up in a gold light.
"Hey Izuku, whats up?" The lion spirit asked.
"Well I've been thinking." He started. "I want to learn to fight. So far it's been you guys defending me and I don't think that's fair. I want to be able to fight along side you all."
Leo smirked. "That's something I can do. Tell you what, you find somewhere quiet we can practice, maybe with some things people won't mind getting destroyed, and we can teach you."
Izuku smiled brightly and Leo vanished back to the spirit world. He had some thinking to do. There was no way a gym would allow him to join up and practice his quirk and destroy their equipment. There has to be some place where people won't notice him using his quirk. He might have to sleep on it.
Later that night, just as he was about to fall asleep, an idea spring into his mind. A beach. It wasn't too far fro. Here and it was covered in trash. No sane person went there meaning it would be a perfect place to train. The piles of garbage would hide his quirk hard and no one would miss them if they went missing. He fell asleep to thoughts of training at the beach with his spirit friends.
The next morning was thankfully Sunday and therefore Izuku was able to go off to words the beach in the morning with no fuss. After arriving he took his time making his way through the winding piles, trying to ignore the smell of rust and other unpleasant things. Leo was summoned after reaching the shore that the lion spirit wrinkled his nose at the smell.
"Isn't there a better place to train?" Leo asked, eyeing the garbage hills.
Izuku shook his head. "I can't afford a membership to a quirk gym and its illegal to use my quick in public."
"I guess this'll have to do then." The spirit sighed. "The first thing that you should would on is how many gates you can keep open. It'll help improve your stamina and all that. But we shouldn't try and over do it. For now let's see if you can summon Lyra for now."
Izuku nodded and retrieved Lyra's key from his pouch. "Open gate of the lyre, Lyra." A gold light enveloped the beach and Lyra appeared.
"Oh look how much you've grown Izuku. How come you don't summon me more often? It like I never see you any more!" Lyra pouted.
"But told me I can only summon you every do often." He protested but Lyra began to hum and play her harp.
"So how do you feel?" Leo asked looking somewhat pleaded.
"I feel a little winded but nothing too noticeable." Izuku replied honestly.
"Good. Let's see how long you can keep us here. In the meantime we can do some strength training to increase your strength. You did say you wanted to fight along side us."
He nodded in determination, wanting to not be a hindrance to his spirit friends. And so he began training his quirk and his body with Leo and his other spirits watching over him, pushing his limits but also making sure he didn't overwork himself.
Four months in and Leo began teaching him some other powers he may have. The first one was called Urano Metria and was an offence technique that used up a lot if energy. The first time he used it, the trash in the area they trained in had been completely destroyed and had left Izuku unconscious. It was obvious he needed to be stronger in order to use t bc at power.
Two months later and he found himself magically in a suit similar to what Leo wore. Apparently that power was called Star Dress and gave him the same abilities as his spirits.
Each day he was growing stronger which didn't go unnoticed by his peers. Though it didn't really matter what they thought of him since it wasn't like they cared for him in the first place. And just like that, it was the day of the UA entrance exams.
Before him was the gate of UA High. Only the best of the best can make it and he hopes that he's one of them. The determination of all the hopeful students is almost thick enough to cut with a knife, however of all these potential students, only a maximum of 40 will be accepted. Despite the slime chances, Izuku just somehow knew he was destined to be here. That or destined to trip and make a fool of himself. Ready to catch himself, and hopefully not damage his new bag, he could that it wasn't needed ad he was hovering about 20 centimeters of the ground.
"Sorry for using my quirk on you without asking. It's just that it would be a bad omen if you fell don't you think?" The girl released her quirk and he settled down onto the ground once more.
"Yea thanks." He smiled politely.
"I guess I'll see you inside then. Good luck on you're exam." She called out, barely giving him time to wish her luck as well.
Just in front he spotted the familiar spiky blond hair of Bakugo. Izuku was glad that the other boy handling tried to make a scene and made his way inside after receiving a card with his name, a number, and a testing ground. All the potential students were steered towards what seemed to be an auditorium where Present Mic stood waiting for everyone to be settled.
"Good morning! Can I get a hell yeah?" Preset Mic call out using his quirk only for silence to be returned. "Tough crowd. In case you don't already know, I'm here to tell you all about the UA exams."
Present Mic went on to explain the specifics for the two exams. The academic test would be done in the auditorium with Ectoplasm's clones wondering around to ensure no one was cheating. After the time fore the written exam was up, everyone was given a ten minute break to recover before they were sent to change and prepare for the physical exam.
Izuku knew he did well on all the academics, he just hoped he'd do just as well on the practical exam. Once in the changing room he opened his backpack and revealed a dark blue track suit with shimmering gold hems and white detailing. It was one of the outfits Virgo had gotten for him from the spirit world and apparently could withstand more force in comparison to normal clothes. He pulled it on, and double checked he had his key pouch before putting his other clothes in his bag and locking it in one of the provided lockers.
The bus to his designated area was quick and quiet. No one wanted to speak to each other and it was obvious why. When the bus finally came to a stop, everyone spilled out and began to prepare for the upcoming battles. Izuku watched as some people began to stretch while others regulated their breathing. Spotting the girl from that morning, he debated going over there and saying hi, making sure she definitely heard him wish her luck, when a towering body stood in his way.
"Were you just about to go bother that girl? She's obviously nervous and trying to take this seriously unlike you." He remembered this guy. Back during Present Mic's explanation he went on about how the fourth robot wasn't explained and the complained about Izuku's whispering to himself.
"I was just going over to wish her luck after she did the same for me this morning."
Before the boy could reply, Present Mic called the exam to a start. His training with Leo and the others kicked in before his brain could process that there hasn't been a count down. It was one if the first things he'd be taught in those ten months, nothing in the real world comes with a count down. While a hard lesson yo learn, it was paying off now.
As the robot began to appear he pulled a key from his pouch and held it to his chest. "Star dress, Leo form." A golden light engulfed him for a moment and when he was visible again he wore an unbuttoned black suit jacket with gold lining, smart black bangs and a forest green under shirt. He wasted no time after going after the group of 3 pointers coming at him. "Regulus impact." He cried out as a gold light enveloped his fist, smashing the robots to pieces. Izuku continued on smashing robots, helping other participants out where he could.
His points that were steadily rising were now levelling off while fewer robots around. It was easy to guess that there were only a couple minutes left of the exam. It was then that the faux city began to rumble. The participants all began to run for the exit. The concrete that made up the buildings started to crumble and fall. That was when he heard it. A cry of pain caught his attention. Turning around he could only just see someone caught under some rubble. Izuku ran back, fists began to glow and he punched through the rubble freeing the girl. A quick assessment told him she'd have trouble escaping herself with a strained ankle and he proceeded to pick her up and carry her towards the exit when the buzzer sounded, signalling the end of the exam.
"Oh it's you. From this morning." The girl said, sounding a little surprised.
"I'll admit I saw you before the test started and I was going to say hi but I was stopped by someone else." Izuku replied, gently setting her on her good foot.
"Oh well. I'm Uraraka Ochaco. Its nice to meet you."
"Midoriya Izuku."
