BOOK 3
After Groundsquirrel received his warrior name, he asked Flowerburst to go hunting with him. Flowerburst said yes. Bramblestar then reminded him that he wasn't supposed to be talking and as Groundsquirrel left the warriors den, he cast one last look at Flowerburst.
After Groundsquirrel finished his vigil, he wanted to sleep but he remember that he was supposed to hunt with Flowerburst. He looked for Flowerburst and found her sharing a thrush with her sister, Floodface. He asked if she still wanted to hunt with him and she said yes. They agreed that they would hunt at the Sky Oak.
When they reached the Sky Oak, Groundsquirrel noticed that a leaf was twitching. After he caught the mouse, he was about to say something to Flowerburst, but he noticed that she was stalking a thrush. She had almost reached the thrush when a twig snapped underneath her paws. Flowerburst said that she had almost gotten it but Groundsquirrel wasn't listening. Groundsquirrel took a massive leap and managed to get the bird. Flowerburst was impressed.
Groundsquirrel pointed out a squirrel and Flowerburst caught it. Then, they returned to the camp.
The next morning, as soon as Groundsquirrel woke up, he searched the den for Flowerburst. He looked outside of the warriors den and saw her eating in the shade with Woodpelt.. He hoped that Flowerburst didn't like Woodpelt more than him, because he loved her.
While Groundsquirrel was out hunting with Cloudtail and Lilyblossom, Woodpelt told him to come over to the bushes. When Groundsquirrel asked why he smelled like garlic, Woodpelt told him that he had intentionally fell into a patch of it while he was hunting with Flowerburst. Woodpelt told him that he had seen him hunting with Flowerburst the day before. When Groundsquirrel asked him why it mattered to him, Woodpelt said that Flowerburst was going to be his mate not Groundsquirrel's and told Groundsquirrel to leave Flowerburst alone. Flowerburst then yowled from the distance, "Woodpelt, are you coming?"
Woodpelt lied to her saying, "Yes. I thought I saw a squirrel over here, but there was nothing."
Flowerburst told him to hurry up because she wanted to catch more than the skinny mouse they already had. Woodpelt left to go hunt with her.
One day, Groundsquirrel woke up to loud cries of grief. As he stepped out of his den and saw Flowerburst's body lying unmoving in middle of the camp.
Groundsquirrel followed Shadecloud out of camp one day to help her collect more juniper berries, and found Thorn about to kill her. He got very angry as he remembered that Thorn was the cat who had killed Flowerburst.
