Chp. 69 "The Plan's in Motion"
Chp. 69 “The Plan’s in Motion”
I felt the nervousness run through my body, and I held onto Avery tight as Walker finished explaining the plan. This was it, we were about to set the plan in motion and the first task was something I wasn’t particularly excited about.
Walker held up two pairs of cuffs, one for both Max and I, and I felt my skin crawl at the sight of them. It freaked me out, but we were staging a kidnapping, so it had to be realistic. Avery’s hand tightened around my arm at the sight of them too, and I knew she was uneasy with this situation.
We were all a little on edge now.
I glanced at Roger and Taylor, knowing Roger had already been inside the F.P.S. to rescue Blaine, but I didn’t know about Taylor. She had to be scared knowing she was going into one of the most dangerous places for someone like her but I figured she would be fine.
I was more worried about her and Avery whenever I would separate from them.
Then Walker broke the silence, “We’re staging a kidnapping and I know you guys could escape easily with all the power Andrea has but hold off on that. The only powers they know you have are Telekinesis and Healing, so don’t give away anything else. And Max, just don’t electrocute anyone.”
Max nodded stiffly as we submitted our freedom to the cuffs that were cold around my wrists. I heard Walker snap them, tightening it to where it was believably inescapable, and I closed my eyes. The pounding in my chest was deafening, and I knew I was scared, even though I couldn’t die I was still completely terrified.
Was that even normal?
I should be fearless, ready to take on anything, but I was terrified and I couldn’t figure out if it was a normal reaction to this whole situation. Everyone else seemed fairly calm, but maybe it was all a front, so I wouldn’t become even more freaked out.
Walker stood, allowing us to take in the reality of us beginning this whole absurd idea. He continued, “Once Pearce is eliminated Taylor and Andrea will teleport the rest of you out of there and to Gage, who will be waiting nearby with the getaway vehicle to drive you all back to the Bureau.”
We all pretty much understood everything that was going to happen, and Gage would be the safest one out of all of us. I was nervous, and my blood was pumping quickly through my body as we began walking outside to Walker’s car.
I gazed at Avery who was next to me, and I knew I wasn’t saying goodbye, but I wanted to just in case. I knew anything could happen and someone could die in any moment, so I wanted to be sure, although I was praying nothing would happen to any of them.
I kissed her softly, and pulled back, seeing a weak smile on her face, “Andy, everything’s going to be ok.”
I nodded, trying to find peace, “I hope so.”
She whispered, “I love you.”
I felt my heart ache, praying all of my friends would be safe but knowing I was mostly praying for Avery. If I lost her I would be devastated, and I knew that there was a possibility she could get hurt. There was a possibility of that for all of them, and I knew I would do my best to protect them.
I responded, “I love you too.”
Then as we all took our positions I climbed into the back of Walker’s car, alongside Max who seemed to be a little more nervous than before. He sighed, “This is it. We’re finally about to take down the bad guys once and for all.”
I felt my heart beat speed up at his words, and I looked at him, “Aren’t you scared?”
He leaned back as Walker joined us in his car, allowing me to see anxiousness but ambition written in his eyes. He nodded, “A little, but I trust you and Walker, oddly enough. It’s an undercover kind of mission, and it’ll be over quick.”
I nodded, looking out the window at Roger, Taylor, Avery and Gage making their way back to the black Tahoe. I felt a pain in my heart seeing Avery climbing in there, I didn’t want her to be going into the F.P.S., but I knew she wanted to protect her father.
If anyone else in the group found out about Avery’s father she would be in serious trouble.
Then we were off, and Walker began speaking, “Ok, here’s the plan. I’m going to call Sullivan, my boss, and then we’re going to stage the kidnapping. My story is that I had been following and watching you guys for weeks, and you two left the Bureau without any protection. I knocked you both out and cuffed you, and hauled you into my car. They’ll know of Andrea but they won’t know you Max, and they’re most likely going to throw you two into a confinement for a little bit, just to give them enough time to notify Pearce that you’ve been captured. In that little window of time I want you to Teleport yourself and Max out of there and find me, ok?”
I nodded, knowing I would be able to do that easily, but I was scared I would get caught. What if I fucked up and altered the entire plan? Possibly killing one of my friends in the process?
I tried not to think like that as we made our way to the Defense Department, and Walker dialed on his phone. He answered the other line, “Sullivan, its Walker. The plan’s in motion, I need you to notify the Defense Department, but say it exactly as we rehearsed it ok?”
Then he clicked off the phone, speeding down the highway. I felt the nerves inside me, almost making me feel sort of sick because it was so intense. I wondered if Max was feeling the same way, considering he would be pretty helpless if something went wrong. I knew he could defend himself against people, but he couldn’t survive from a gun wound, which worried me a lot.
Then he nudged me, grabbing my attention, “Everything will be fine, Andy. We’re going to come out of this strong, and then we’re going to go home.”
I smiled, looking into his promising electric blue eyes that always reassured me in times of need. I leaned into him, knowing I would be going into that place with the only person I would ever want to fight alongside. He was my brother, not biologically, but emotionally we were related. We were strong together, which was something I never understood, but I didn’t need to. We worked well together, and I knew I couldn’t be going in there with anyone better.
Walker answered to Max’s comment, “Yea, everything will be fine. We’re going in, and then we’re leaving. You can easily teleport you and your friend’s out safely.”
I knew he was right, which was probably the only reason I was ok with this, but what would happen to him if I disappeared? I questioned, “What would they do to you if I disappeared?”
He shrugged, taking the exit off of the highway and speaking, “I’ll just claim I had no idea you could teleport, they can’t blame me for that.”
We slowly made our way down a deserted road, leading us away from civilization. I thought about Avery and the rest of them, who would be coming into the F.P.S. from the roof access. I was scared for them, but they wouldn’t move in until us three had done our job first. Everything was planned precisely, but going through with it was tricky, and involved a lot of sneakiness.
Then a huge building came into view, and I knew this was it. It oddly reminded me of the Bureau, because it was so huge and stuff, but I knew it was nothing like it inside. They were bad, and the things that they did in there were bad, and I knew we were about to head in there with Walker.
I started breathing heavily to try and calm myself down as we approached the building.
There were guards at where we were heading, and when Walker approached them he rolled down his window, “Agent Walker, I’m bringing in the Healer.”
The guard nodded stiffly, letting him through without any hesitation, and I took this as a good sign. There was no trouble at one entrance, but I was nervous as to what was going to happen once we made it into the place. Were they going to separate me and Max, because if that happened the entire plan would be fucked up, causing me to have to find him and then find Walker.
Then we were in a tunnel-like structure, and there were more guards who were now approaching Walker’s car. He spoke, “Stay calm and don’t do anything stupid. They’re just going to escort you.”
I tried my best to keep a calm demeanor but I was freaking out on the inside, knowing this was it. If anything went wrong it would be now, and I was scared I was going to freak out and blow our plan. I looked at Max as he took a deep breathe, nodding to me in reassurance as the door opened to the car.
“Get out.”
A tall guard ordered to Max and I, and I followed submissively, not wanting to get roughed around by these people. He grabbed my elbow and tugged me out, causing me to lose my balance as I stumbled out of the car. I prayed silently as I heard them do the same thing to Max, hoping he wouldn’t say or do anything stupid.
One of the other guards spoke, “Who’s the boy?”
Walker was following alongside me as the guard continued tugging me through the narrow passageway. “Maxwell Davidson, he was with her when I found them. I had to take him to not blow my cover, but he’s not a threat.”
I knew Walker’s words weren’t meant to be taken literal, he was just playing the part, but I couldn’t see Max’s reaction. He was behind me, and I wondered if he had taken the comment literally. I wanted to turn back and look to him for comfort, but I couldn’t do that without possibly risking more manhandling.
Which was something I didn’t want.
Then another guard spoke, “Does the girl have any powers we should be worried about?”
Walker spoke, “Healing and Telekinesis.”
Another guard approached me as we continued walking through the hall, causing us to come to a halt as he responded. “Well, we can’t have her throwing shit around the room now can we?”
Then he tied a blindfold over my eyes, pulling it tight to where I couldn’t see a thing. Walker responded, “Why the blindfold?”
I couldn’t see anything but I could still hear which was something I was now relying on was. The feeling of being blind was scary, especially in this situation, but I was hoping for an explanation as to why.
The guard responded to Walker, “If she can’t see she can’t use her Telekinesis, it’s a weakness they have. Without their visualization they’re pretty much crippled.”
I allowed the guard to pull me into a different direction, allowing me to hear the footsteps of people besides me. I listened carefully, and I instantly knew we were heading into an elevator as someone clicked a button and I heard the doors shut.
I was terrified, and I was trying to listen for Max but he wasn’t talking. Everything was quite except for the low humming of the elevator, and then the doors opened to another floor. We had gone up at least two floors, which let me know we were two floors below where General Pearce would be.
I was guided down another hallway, feeling the strong grip of the guard’s hand on me. Then I heard more voices, “Put them in here for now, we have to notify the General.”
Walker spoke, “You seem to have everything in control, so I’ll be going.”
One of the guards responded to him, “We’ll let you know when the General wants to speak.”
Then I heard footsteps walking away as I heard a door open, and I was pushed inside some room. I whispered, “Max.”
He responded almost immediately, “Yea. Hold on.”
The guard spoke, “Don’t do anything stupid Andrea, or we’ll kill your friend.”
Then the door slammed, and I heard it lock, and I knew we were alone. Max spoke, “We’re alone. Can you get out of your cuffs?”
I shook my head, “I don’t know, I can’t see anything.”
Then he spoke softly, “Hold on, maybe I can weaken the metal with electricity.”
I heard a familiar buzzing and crackling sound of electricity, and after about two minutes of that I heard the sound of metal being ripped. The sound of it hitting the floor let me know Max had broken free of the cuffs and soon untied my blindfold, allowing me to take in the room, or cell, we had been put into.
He spoke, “Get out of those cuffs and let’s find Walker, he’s waiting.”
I nodded, feeling the buzz of electricity in my body as I prepared to do exactly what Max had done. I felt the familiar tingle of electricity running through my body, and I powered it all to my wrists as I focused. Then I pulled them apart, ripping the metal and allowing it to fall to the ground.
Max smiled at me, taking my hand, “Ready to end this?”
I nodded, looking into his eyes before closing mine. I would need to focus to find Walker, because he was waiting for us. I found his presence and I held my breath, locking onto where exactly I needed to go.
And I exhaled, opening my eyes and seeing Walker standing in a dark room that was surrounded with security cameras.
He hit the power button to the cameras, shutting them all off as he cut the master plug to ensure the cameras would be down for a good amount of time.
Then he spoke, pulling out his phone, “Let’s let the other’s know they can move in.”
