Can cats talk? The Cat King

They said their goodbyes to Hiromi and headed home. Haru was still in shock about the fact that the cat she saved can talk and wanted to ask their mom about it. They finally reached their home and Serene opened the door first to let her sister in before following her and closing the door behind them.

"Mom, we're home." Haru called as the two took off their shoes.

"Mother?" Serene called their mom as they set their shoes down.

"In the kitchen!" The faint of their mom was heard.

They went to the kitchen so Haru could ask their mom about something.

"Watch it! Quilts on the floor." That made the two pause in their steps as they looked down and noticed that the whole place was littered with quilt patterns.

Serene noticed that Naoko was at the table with her quilt set and was frustrated on which pattern to use.

"Sorry. Oh my, this pattern's a disaster." Naoko said as she put her hand on her forehead.

"Serene, could you make dinner tonight?" Naoko asked as the two avoided stepping on the patterns and reached their mom.

"Hey, mom?" Haru started as Naoko hummed while picking up a pattern.

"Do you think cats can talk?" Haru finally asked.

Naoko paused and looked at her daughters in confusion. That was a a strange question.

"Sure. Why not?" Naoko said as she paid no attention to the question as she was looking at the patterns in her hands.

Haru sighed as the question finally sinked in their mom's mind as she looked at the two in shock.

"What?!" She exclaimed in shock.

During making dinner, Haru explained that she saved a cat but left the part out that she jumped in front of the truck to save the feline and it thanked her. They were seated together at the table as Naoko remembered something.

"You've asked me that question before, you know." Naoko said as Haru looked at her mom in surprise.

Haru was a bit shocked and surprised. Did it really happen before? Serene was eating silently while listening to the conversation with interest. So something like this has happened to Haru before? But that didn't explain how she could understand the cat Haru saved.

"Yeah?" Haru asked in confusion as Naoko nodded.

"When you were just a little girl. You said 'Mommy, did you know I can talk to cats?'" Naoko explained as Haru looked at her curiously. Did she?

"She said that?" Serene asked curiously as Naoko nodded truthfully.

"Yes. You don't remember, Haru?" Naoko asked as Haru then remembered something from her childhood.

Flashback starts;

It was sunset and a young Haru was walking home while eating some fish cookies which was her favorite while not noticing a certain white kitten following after her. Young Haru noticed the kitten and tried to ignore it but it was persistent as she gave in and stopped and turned to the kitten who stopped and sat in front of her.

"Hmm? Hey, what's wrong?" Young Haru asked in concern.

The kitten meows while looking at the box in young Haru's hands and young Haru seemed to understand what the little kitten was saying.

"Oh, you're pretty hungry, huh?" Haru said as the kitten meowed again.

The little girl kneeled down in front of the kitten.

"Do you like fish?" Haru then asked and the kitten meows while nodding.

"They're really good. Here, try some." She gave some of her fish crackers to the kitten who started to eat them happily.

Young Haru pets the kitten while it ate as she felt sorry for the poor thing.

"You're really dirty, kitty..." Haru pouted.

"Do you like the fish?" She asked.

The kitten then looks up to Haru again and meows as if asking if Haru has anymore.

"See. I told you." Haru said with a smile but stopped and looked at the kitten.

"You want some more? " She asked and a happy meow was her answer.

Haru smiled and set the box of the rest of the fish crackers down.

"Okay, you can have them all." Haru told the kitten happily.

The kitten started to eat happily before stopping for a moment and looked up to Haru and meowed a thank you to her.

"No, you don't need to do anything for me." Haru told it happily.

"Haru." The voice of her mother was heard.

Haru turned and quickly stood up to run to her mother happily. The kitten watched her happily before happily eating the food given to her.

"Mommy!" Haru cheered as she took her mom's hand in hers.

"What were you doing over there?" Naoko asked as the two started to walk home.

"I was talking with the kitten." Haru said innocently.

The two went home with Haru chatting happily with her mom and the kitten happily eating the fish crackers.

Flashback ends;

Naoko had a fond smile as she remembered how her daughter always say that she can talk to cats.

"So I asked you what did the kitten say to you. And do you know what you said? You said the kitten told you that life is tough. I thought it was so adorable." Naoko explained as she laughed softly while both Haru and Serene listened.

"Now what about you, Serene? Did something happen?" Naoko turned to her second daughter who had been quiet.

"Something did happen but I'm still unsure of what it is. I'm starting to remember stuff from my past but it's still all blurry but the main thing I can say is that the person with the green eyes." Serene said as Naoko hummed.

"Probably someone from your past. Don't worry. You'll get your missing memories if this keeps up." She said as she petted her daughter on the head.

They eventually finished dinner and went to bed. In Serene's bedroom, everything was in order and organized as she was in her pajamas which were blue and white. She sat down on her bed and picked something up from her desk which was the same necklace that she saw in her flashbacks. What could this mean? She just sighs and figures she might as well wear it tomorrow.

She went to her desk and sat down to do some homework after turning off the main lights and turned on her desk light. She opened her notes and book and started to write down what needs to be written down. It was around 10:30 pm when she heard something from outside.

She got up and went up to the window to see what was going on. From what she could see, some cats were hissing, yowling and snarling at something. A knock from the door was heard and she went to it and opened it to see that it was Haru.

A few minutes earlier...

Haru sat down on her bed as she thought about what their mom thought.

"So it looks like that actually happened." Haru said before shaking her head and picked up her alarm clock.

"Let's forget about it, go to sleep and get up in time for breakfast." Haru said and set her alarm clock on the same time her sister wakes up before turning off the lights.

But everything started to become weird when she started to hear the sounds of cats from outside. She woke up groggily and sat up and checked the window. She couldn't see anything clearly but something must've agitated the cats.

She carefully got up from the bed and noticed that her sister's bedroom's light was on. She knocked on the door before it was opened by Serene.

Current situation...

"Hey, did you hear it too?" Serene asked in a hush tone as Haru nodded worriedly.

"Come on. Let's go see what it is." Haru said.

They quietly went downstairs and to the front door to see what's going on. When they got outside, their eyes widened at what they saw. Some cats were attacking some of the neighborhood cats but they were standing up like the one from earlier.

They hid behind the post of their gate and watched some tuxedo cats ward off some cats as a cat on a chair stopped in front of their home. They saw a Scottish fold cat was holding a scroll of some kind and a grey cat wearing robes. They stayed hidden as the cats stopped by their house.

The grey cat cleared their throat before attempting to speak but stopped when he noticed that Haru was hiding behind her sister who was by the post of their gate.

Haru peeked out a little but went back to hiding behind her sister.

"Uh... Uh, come over here." He gestured for Haru to come out.

Haru came out a little and was confused before pointing to herself to which the cat nodded and motioned for her to come closer.

"Mm-hmm. A bit closer." He said.

Haru looked at Serene who shrugged as she stood to her full height and motioned for Haru to go and see what the cat wanted. Haru pouted but did so and waited as the cat started to speak.

"Please allow me to present our wise and incredibly magnificent ruler, King of Cat King, the Cat King." The cat said as the sisters looked towards the light lavender colored cat.

"That's me, babe." The Cat King said in a rather smug tone which made Serene bristle for unknown reasons.

The two turned back to the grey cat, who resumed speaking.

"Let it be known that the cat whose life you saved today was none other than the king's only son, Prince Lune." The cat said which took the two sisters by surprise mainly Haru. She saved a royalty and a prince?! That's something else.

"Given the magnitude of the matter, the king himself would like to express his gratitude to you in his own words." The cat finished as Haru nodded.

She finally knew that the cat they saved was the son of the king. The two sisters both looked to the king as he was about to speak.

"Thanks a lot, babe." He said bluntly as this made Haru laugh a little.

Then the Scottish fold cat stepped forward and presented the scroll to them but mainly to Serene as Haru jumped back since it startled her.

"A list of what you shall receive. The grey cat informed them.

Serene slowly took the scroll from the Scottish fold and looked at the paper curiously before looking at the cat as the Scottish fold backed up.

"Starting tomorrow, that perfectly marvelous array of gifts will be showered upon you." He said as that was directed to Serene which confuses her.

Serene and Haru looked to each other and to the king as Haru nodded with a small smile and Serene nodded slowly.

"Um, thank you." Serene said in a confused manner.

The king nodded as he seemed satisfied.

"Mmmm. Ciao, babe." He bid them farewell as the two watched the cats leave.

They looked at each other and decided to go back to sleep since it's late.

Serene entered her room and sat on her bed and looked at the scroll in her hand. Something about the scroll is fishy and she decided to find out the next day.
