Her Smile (Teaser)
(I wanted to do a teaser, this is a few weeks before filming for infinity war wraps up. She's fourteen and has been struggling with depression. This is long. Also a Trigger warning for depression.)
Lydia hid behind her smile. Her depression was getting worse, to the point where it wasn't just deep sadness, it was this empty feeling, the feeling of just... numbness. You go through the motions of life, but you don't really notice or take joy in it. She couldn't remember the last time she was genuinely happy. She felt like nobody was there, she felt as if this was her problem...
Nobody noticed.
Until Chris.
Chris' POV
Lydia had been acting odd. I don't think I was the only one who noticed this as I saw multiple people of the cast of Infinity War shooting concerned looks in her direction. I decided to do something about it. As soon as we finished filming, I asked Lydia if she needed a ride back.
"Yeah, that'd be great." She said, flashing me a smile, though something in me told me it wasn't genuine.
I didn't take her back to the hotel. I think she noticed but just didn't say anything about it. Instead, I took her to a nearby park. I got out and opened the door for her, putting my arm around her shoulders, leading her to a nearby bench. We sat, my arm still around her.
"Now, do you want to tell me what's going on?" She looked at me and I realized she had tears in her eyes.
"I-" She cut off, starting to cry in earnest. I quickly took her into my arms, her head resting on my shoulder, tears soaking my shirt. I didn't care. I just held her whispering soothingly to her, and rubbing her back. She gently pulled away and offered me a sad smile.
"I'm not doing so great, mentally, that is." She said, hoarsely, tears still running down her face. I quickly took her into my arms again. "I feel so empty, and I don't know why." she said into my shirt, her hands clinging onto the fabric. We stayed like that for a while, not talking, then, I gently pulled away, brushing back the remaining tears on her face. "It's ok." I whispered gently. and we just sat.
"Can I ask how long?"
"A few months, it feels like it comes and go's in waves, each one harder and more merciless than the others. It's like trying to swim against a rip current, you can only fight for so long before going under." She said, eventually, in a soft voice. I tightened my arm around her protectively.
"Hey," I said, tilting her chin up to me,
"You're not alone."
Lydia's POV
"You're not alone."
Those words struck me. I wasn't alone. I had my Marvel family, my dogs, and a multitude of other people with me. I. Was. Not. Alone. Those four words brought more tears, which Chris brushed away again. This time he said,
"Look at the stars." So I did.
And they were beautiful.
(This chapter was long. Please tell me what you thought of it and if you want more teasers like this.)
