Chapter 6: The Real Wild

For the next five minutes, Petra was hovering over the bushes...retching as if she were trying to throw up, though nothing came out the whole time she was doing it. Therefore, the gang angrily speed walked back to the beach...with Wither Sickness still laughing as Bucky followed shortly behind. "Oh come on, mate!" He said to Petra. "Sure you didn't like the grub, there's other bugs you can try!"
"No, never again! If I have to eat another bug, I guarantee that I'll throw up...on you." Petra said, causing Bucky to shudder. Wither Sickness stumbled out of the jungle, still giggling as well as trying not to fall over. "Ahaha! Give the bugs a chance, Petra!" He guffawed. "After all, it's just a little...PURE PROTIEN!" He began laughing again as he pointed at Petra's annoyance...only for his tentacle to be grabbed by Eden, before she flipped him over her shoulder. "NO! Don't you dare make a Teen Titans reference!" She snarled. "What? It's not my fault you and your cousin watch it every time he comes over!" Wither Sickness objected, picking himself up off the ground, as Eden crossed her arms. "Doesn't matter! Now is not the time."
"Ooh, have I made you mad? I love it when you're mad." Wither Sickness said, as Eden growled. "You're damn right you made me mad." She spat. "You pressured Petra into eating that grub." Wither Sickness chuckled again. "C'mon, Eden, you know she's my favorite victim." Eden rolled her eyes, and shook her head in disappointment. "So what? There's a time and a place for everything, and back there in the jungle was not that time or place for your shenanigans." She said. "You're just cranky 'cause you're hungry." Wither Sickness said, crossing his tentacles as he looked out into the distance. "You can't protect your little cinnamon roll forever, ya know."
"Yes I can. I've been doing it since you first infected her." Eden retorted, as her minion gave a sinister chuckle. "Oh yeah, you and 60.2% of players had Petra's back during that incident." He said. "But need I remind you that only ten percent decided to make nice with her in the portal hallway." Eden's ears perked up upon hearing that, and she growled rather ferociously as she unsheathed her long claws. "Oh, it seems I made the tigress angrier. But I'm not finished, unfortunately." Wither Sickness continued. "Did you ever think about the fact that 73.2% of people—" Eden grabbed the pathogen by the neck. "Say it...and see what happens." For a few moments, they held each other's gaze...leaving everyone on edge, trying to determine who was going to do what first. But then Wither Sickness chuckled again. "...Unchipped Lukas." Eden snarled again, and two Earth Element symbols appeared on both sides of her head. "Grrr...boulder fist!" She then bashed Wither Sickness right in the face with her now rock coated paw, sending him rolling a few feet away from her...in which only caused him to start laughing again, rather than grimace in pain. "Man, I love a good laugh!" He said, rubbing the spot on his face where his nose would be. "And what better way to get it than to make my master mad? C'mon, Eden, you know I was just messing around." She didn't respond, or even turn to look at him...but started walking to join the others. "I think you hit a pretty big nerve there, mate." Bucky said to Wither Sickness, as he stood up. "Ah man, I'm sorry...Eden? I forgot you can't take a joke, cut me some slack!" He said. Bucky gave the pathogen a reassuring pat on his leg. "Don't worry about it too much, mate. She'll be over it soon." Wither Sickness sighed, and walked off to a tree so he could hang on a branch by his tail...as Eden returned to her team. "Eden, are you...okay?" Cloud asked. Looking to the ground, Eden sighed before sticking her paws in her pockets. "I'll be okay..."
"I honestly don't understand why you're so mad, anyway." Petra said. "Yeah, he pressured me into eating the bug...but once I did it, it was over." Eden gave a small nod. "I know, but...the way he did it reminded me too much of his old self, when he was all sinister and evil. Especially when he did it to you." She said. "Well, the important thing is that it was just a harmless dare, and nobody except Petra's tastebuds got hurt." Witherstorm said, as everyone shared nods of agreement. Now that everything was settled down, the gang actually took the time to notice...that a certain tabby cat was missing. "Hey, where's Ham?" Eden asked. "I dunno, I swear he was behind us when we're walking back." Petra replied. Then, there was a rustling coming from the bushes in the jungle...and soon popped out Ham, looking rather frazzled and terrified. "Ham, are you okay?!" Eden asked, as everyone rushed to him. "We thought you were behind us!"
"I was...but then I saw a vulture carrying a mango. Because we're hungry, I figured that I would try to chase it." Ham explained. "Did you catch it?" Witherstorm asked. Ham looked over at the Nether creature and narrowed his one good eye, before giving a feline-like growl. "NO, I DIDN'T CATCH IT!!!!!! DID YOU SEE ME STUMBLE OUT OF THAT JUNGLE WITH A MANGO IN MY PAW?!?!?!?!"
"Whoa, whoa, Ham...calm down!" Eden said, as he dropped down on his knees. "No! We're gonna die out here, Eden! If we can't find any food, what's the point of even thinking about trying to survive?!" Ham shouted. He then doubled over onto the sand and curled into a ball, before starting to sob hysterically. Eden, Witherstorm, Petra, and Cloud all proceeded to comfort the tabby cat, hoping that he would lighten up a bit. Unfortunately, though, he just wasn't budging. "It's gonna be okay, Ham." Reassured Cloud. "The Wither Team has made it through so many things...this little island shouldn't be a problem." Petra nodded in agreement, and patted Ham's back. "Yeah, Cloud's right. We can't just give up...we never have. You gotta stay positive, Ham." She said. Ham uncurled himself, and sniffled. "I'll stay positive, and calm down..." he turned to Petra with tear filled, pitiful eyes, "...if you let me tickle your tummy." Her eyes widened. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Don't act like you don't know what he's talking about, Petra." Eden said, chuckling. "Nope, you cannot do that." She said, as Ham sat up. "Why not?" He asked. "Because you...you scratch too hard."
"So are you saying that if he did it lightly, you'd like it?" Witherstorm asked, smirking as Petra rolled her eyes. "No, I never said that!" Eden put her paw on Petra's shoulder. "C'mon, Petra, look at that face!" She said, gesturing to Ham. They looked down at the tabby cat, who was now begging much like a house pet would do for food...as well as purring and making various kitten noises. After resisting for a few minutes, Petra actually gave in. "Stop begging, Ham." A smile formed on his face, as she sighed. "Have at it." With that, the tabby cat tackled Petra to the ground and proceeded to do the thing that she hated the most...in which caused her leg to shake, as per usual. "Though we should stay positive," Witherstorm said, trying not to laugh at Petra, "I kinda agree with you, Ham. Food and water are the key things things that we need to survive."
"Can't we just drink seawater?" Cloud asked, as Eden shook her head. "I'm afraid not, I've been told that you can't drink seawater on the count that it's too salty." She said. "Ow! Watch the claws!" They directed their attention back to Ham and Petra, and couldn't hold back a laugh once they saw that the tabby cat was still going at it. Petra wriggled from his grasp. "Okay, that's enough." She said, dusting herself off. "I hope you're feeling better, now."
"Yes, despite the fact that I'm still hungry." Ham said, shaking the sand out of his fur. "Well, then we should do something to get our minds off of food...at least for a little bit." Petra said. "Can we build something that reminds us of home?" Cloud asked, as Petra smiled. "Is there something specific that you want to build?"
"Maybe..." Cloud replied, looking down at the ground. "How are we gonna build it?" Ham asked. Eden looked at the growing pile of wood that sat on one side of the beach, and thought that if they weren't planning on doing anything with it...why not use it now?
"I think I know how."

A few hours later...

By the time that the sun started to set, the gang managed to build...a massive creeper...entirely out of sticks and branches. According to Petra, Jesse promised Cloud that he would teach him how to build...but never actually got around to it. And the thing that wanted to build just so happened to be one of the most annoying mobs in Minecraft...much to Witherstorm's dismay. He hated creepers, almost as much as he did Endermen, but he was willing to help...because it did remind him of home. Right now, they were putting the finishing touches on the wood statue, while Bucky and tried to light a fire...for it's eyes. Ham had the strange idea of lighting the eyes on fire because he thought it would look cool, despite the fact that everything can go wrong when it's the thing is made of wood. But the gang just went with it, and managed to find a way around it...while hoping that a a certain ferret wouldn't do anything stupid. "Alright, I think that's it." Eden said, jumping off the build. "Not yet, I just need to make sure that everything is secure." Petra said, using a rock as some sort of hammer. "Where's that fire, Bucky?"
"Ugh! I'm not getting a light, can't I just use the mirror?" Bucky asked, tossing the two wood planks he was using away. "No, you could point it in the wrong direction...and the last thing I want is for all this hard work to go to waste. So keep rubbing those planks together." Petra replied. "But I've never lit a fire like this!" Bucky complained. "It's the most pointless...stupid...crazy...un-useful way ever! NRGH!!!" After repeatedly slamming the planks on top of a pile of sticks, Bucky tossed them against the leg of the wood creeper...in which caused them to somehow create a spark and light on fire. "Holy marmalade..." gasped the white ferret, "I HAVE MADE FIRE!!!!" As soon as Bucky shouted that, the fire from the planks spread to the creeper...and the leg of the statue was all of a sudden engulfed in flames. To make matters worse, the place that Petra was doing the finishing touches was on top of it...and the fire was spreading fast. "Petra!" Cloud called, as she looked at the inferno that was quickly moving closer. "Be ready, guys...'cause I'm coming down!" As soon as the flames reached the creeper's head, Petra launched herself away from it just in the nick of time...and everyone ran around trying to predict where she was gonna land so they could catch her. But they were pretty unlucky, as Petra had landed in the sand a few feet away from her team. "Uh...oops." Ham said, rubbing the back of his neck. Petra scrambled to her feet, and immediately looked back at the flaming creeper that stood before her and the team. "YOU MANIAC! YOU BURNED IT UP!!!! DARN YOU...DARN YOU ALL TO HELL..." she shouted to Bucky, dropping on her knees as the statue started to crumble down. The white ferret chuckled nervously, and quickly scurried off to someplace where Petra hopefully couldn't find him...while the Wither Team continued to watch their hard work slowly turn into a pile of ashes. "Geez, talk about unnecessary." Eden said, referring to Petra's last comment. "You try working really hard on something, only to have it burned down!" She said, standing up again. "So what do we do now?" Cloud asked. "Well, since this was a bit of a fail...I think we should just try looking for food again." Eden replied. "In the jungle? At night?" Witherstorm asked, briefly looking at the ongoing maze of undergrowth behind them. "I don't know if that's safe, Eden." Ham said. "Then I'll go with you guys." The voice belonged to Wither Sickness, who had finally decided to come down from his tree...and hopefully make nice with Eden and Petra. "That way if something tries to attack you guys, you have me to protect you." He said. Eden gave a nod. "Alright then, let's get to it." Not even bothering to look for Bucky, the Wither Team then set off on a quest for food again.

Ten minutes later...

Some time passes, and the gang find themselves plunged into complete darkness as soon as they got deep into the jungle. They were huddled together with Wither Sickness leading the way, using his eye beam to light a path...while trying to make sure that he didn't accidentally pick something up with it. "See anything to eat, guys?" Eden asked, as everyone shook their heads. "Nope, I see nothing." Ham said, before shuddering a bit. "I hope we find something soon, 'cause I'm getting really creeped out right now."
"We should be fine as long as we stay together...which shouldn't be a problem, right?" Witherstorm asked, as Eden shrugged. "Yeah, I hope." They kept trudging through the leaves and vines, jumping with fright every time they heard a strange sound...in which only made them start to think that it wasn't worth searching through the jungle at night. After a few moments, there was a snapping sound that caused everyone to jump out of their huddled formation...and immediately began to run as fast as they could. "Nope, nope, nope! This was a tremendously bad idea!" Ham yelled over everyone's panicking. "Then why are we running this...waaaaaay!" As soon as Wither Sickness finished his sentence, he tripped and went tumbling down a hill...shortly followed by the others who ended up stumbling down as well. They soon landed with a huge thud into a pile of vines and leaves, looking very much dazed and confused as they succumbed to the pain of the fall. "Owww..." Eden groaned, pulling a thorn out of her arm. "Talk about pain." They quickly took a look around at their surroundings to find that the jungle continued on, but they really weren't sure if it was safe to keep going. "What do we do now?" Cloud asked. "We need to head back to the beach, I don't trust this jungle anymore!" Wither Sickness said, scrambling to his feet. "Wait...wait, hold on." Petra said, standing up. "Something's crawling on me!" She started feeling around for the creature, though it didn't take long for others to find out that it was in a very inconvenient spot. A chill went up Eden's spine, as she gulped. "Petra...don't move." She said. "Why? Did you find it?" Petra asked. "What is it?!" Ham rubbed his arm uncomfortably, and shook his head. "There's no easy way to say this..."
"Oh, come on...spit it out!" Petra said, as Eden gulped again. "Petra, there's a huge spider...on your butt." Petra's eyes widened. "Nononono...no spider is that small." She said. "Get it off!" The gang looked at each other in confusion, and tried to think of a solution for this problem...though they were on the verge of panicking due to the fact that they're having another bug encounter. "Petra, I'm sorry...but desperate times call for desperate measures!" Ham finally said. He closed his eyes and held up his paw, before smacking the eight legged creature off Petra...much to her annoyance. "What the heck is it with you and touching me in places where your hands don't belong?!" She asked, dusting herself off. "What, you wanted that spider to lay eggs in your pants?" Ham asked, crossing his arms. "I did you a favor by slapping your butt!"
"Well, just remember that my butt is not for your paws to be slapping!" Petra said, as Wither Sickness started giggling. They then looked at the spider, as it scurried back to it's web in peace. "What kind of spider is that?" Petra asked. "It was a normal spider." Cloud said. "Haven't you seen one before?" Petra shook her head. "The only spiders I've seen are the ones in my home world only!"
"Well, congratulations." Eden said, chuckling. "You've encountered a real spider, in the real wild." Petra nodded slowly, as she rubbed the back of her neck rather nervously. "The real wild, huh?" She asked. "Would you excuse me for a sec?"

Five minutes later...

"GET ME OUTTA HERE! I'M GONNA DIE ON THIS ISLAND! HELP!" Shouted Petra, as she sprinted out of the jungle. "Petra, what are you doing?" Eden yelled to her, as she proceeded to run out to the ocean.  "I'm swimming back to land! I know my chances are slim, but I have to try!" Petra replied. Eden grabbed her so she couldn't get far into the water. "You can't swim out into that insane storm! That'd be suicide!" She said, as Petra tried to get squirm from her. "I did say my chances are slim!" She said. Then, interrupting the two, Wither Sickness scrambled out of the jungle with a bound of leaves and vines over his head. "AAAH! NATURE! IT'S ALL OVER ME! GET IT OFF! I can't see! I can't see!" Cloud chased after him, trying to get the bundle of leaves off the pathogen's face. "Wither Sickness, it's just a bit of leaves! Stay still, and I'll pull them off!" He said, as Ham and Witherstorm stumbled out of the jungle as well. Bucky turned away from the thing that he was working on, and noticed the chaos that just spontaneously erupted from the jungle. "What in the name of coconut cream pie is going on here?" He asked, as Eden continued to struggle with Petra. "Petra had...nrrgh...a bit of a spider encounter in the jungle." She replied, finally pulling the warrior out of the water. "Pull yourself together, man!" She slapped her right the face, in which immediately caused her to calm down. "Do that again!" Eden quickly obeyed her friends orders. "Okay, are you better now?" She asked. "Yeah...yeah I think so." Petra replied, panting as Ham and Witherstorm came to join them. "I haven't seen you so frazzled since you faced that chipped zombie, Petra." Ham said. "Why did one spider freak you out?" Petra crossed her arms. "What makes you think that I want it's creepy little legs crawling on me? You'd react the exact same way!" She said, as Eden sighed. "Listen...it's late, we've all had a rough day, maybe it's time for us to curl up in our leaf beds and hit the sack." She said. Everyone seemed to agree with that plan, and walked off to their little camp so they could finally call it a night...despite the many things that went down in one day. Hopefully they won't think about the fact that it was just their first day on the island.
