Chapter 4: Life As Castaways
The next morning, the sun arose...shining bright and beating down on the island's new inhabitants. Bucky was (unfortunately for the gang) the first to get up, and he wanted everyone else to partake in being the best castaways in existence. He grabbed what looked like a large seashell, and blew into it as hard as he could...causing it to make a very loud horn-like sound, in which slowly woke the Wither Team up. "Alrioght, alrioght, up and at em'! We've got a long day ahead of us!" Bucky said, as everyone groaned loudly. "I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear last night." Petra grumbled. "I said to NOT wake me up before noon!" Bucky scoffed, as he crossed his arms. "Please, that went in one ear and out the other, mate." He said. "Alrioght, roll call time!" Ham rubbed his one good eye, as he groggily sat up a bit. "Roll call? But you saw all of us go to bed last night."
"Yes, but I don't know if any of you got up in the middle of the night to...I dunno, use the bathroom or something." Bucky said, causing Witherstorm to look tremendously confused. "What bathroom—"
"Enough talk! Roll call! Cloud!"
"Here."
"Ham!"
"Here."
"Eden!"
"Kill me with a spoon..."
"Petra!"
"I want to murder you in your sleep."
"Witherstorm!"
"Witherstorm is sleeping, please leave a message after the beep. Beeeep."
"Perfect! Everyone's here!" Bucky said, as everyone tried to get back to sleep. "Great, great, wake us up at quarter to never...goodnight!" Eden said, before Bucky proceeded to pull everyone's leaves off. "Nope! It's time to get up, we gotta collect a bunch of resources so we can be prepared for the elements of the wild. So let's go! Chop, chop!" He said. Now everyone was clearly annoyed, and no longer afraid to show it...despite being tremendously tired from getting up so early. "Look, Bucky," Ham said, sitting up, "I don't know if this is clear or not...but we don't take orders from you." Witherstorm gave a nod.
"Yeah, Eden's the leader of this group." He added. "You sure about that, mate? According to what I hear from Clay, Eden sucks at survival." Bucky said. Eden immediately sat up as well, twitching one eye out of annoyance upon hearing something she obviously wasn't in the mood for. "Excuse me?" She asked. "I've been told that when you play Survival in Minecraft, you don't last very long. That's why I think it's best for us to get all the resources we need...so I can teach those who don't understand along the way." Bucky explained. "Now, come on, we're wasting daylight." He scurried off ahead of the gang, as they stood up and watched him go. Judging by how far Eden had flattened her ears, and how loud she was growling, she was really resisting the urge to chase down the white ferret and give him a no holds barred beatdown...it was a lot harder than it looked to hold back. "I see why you want to kill him, Petra." Eden snarled, unsheathing her claws. "It's taking all of my willpower to not rip his non-listening, obnoxious little tongue right out of his mouth."
"Glad you finally see it my way." Petra said, crossing her arms as Eden nodded. "Yes, and I'm finding it very difficult to stand still the more I watch him." Ham put his paw on her back, hoping that it would calm her down a bit. "Eden, calm down." He said. "You'd be setting a bad example for yourself if you kill him." Eden took a few deep breaths, and sheathed her claws...before she felt Cloud tap her leg. "I'd rather listen to you than Bucky, if that makes you feel any better." He said, as Eden cracked a smile. "Thanks, Cloud."
"So do I have permission to sleep in?" He asked, causing Eden to chuckle. "Yes, you can...and we'll make sure that Bucky stays off your back." She said. "As for the rest of us, unfortunately...we have to follow Bucky's lead, just until we can get the fact that we don't take orders from him through his mind." For a second, everyone looked undecided...but eventually shrugged it off before proceeding to join Bucky in finding resources.
Three hours later...
During the time that Bucky had the team working, he didn't make them do any more than collect a bunch of wood...and didn't explain why, much to their annoyance. But they were too tired to complain, so they just continued to pull branches from the trees...and collect sticks and driftwood that had been scattered all over the beach. "This is stupid, Bucky." Eden said, dropping an armful of wood on the sand. "All we've been doing for the last few hours is collecting a crap ton of wood that we don't need!"
"Yeah, to make a house. Look." The white ferret gestured to a very small triangular shaped hut sitting a few feet away from the unlit fire, causing the gang to all raise an eyebrow in confusion. "You expect all of us to fit in that?" Ham asked, as Bucky shook his head. "I didn't say it was for you, that's what all this other wood is for." He said. "Maybe y'all need a bit more help. Eden, summon Wither Sickness."
"I'm not gonna summon Wither Sickness just so he can lug around a bunch of wood!" Eden said, dropping her bundle of wood before putting her paws on her hips. "Fine, but I don't want to hear anymore complaining from you if you claim to not need any help." Bucky said. For a moment, Eden held an angry gaze with Bucky...but eventually just growled and held out one paw. The familiar black goo began to form on her pad, and slowly oozed down onto the sand before forming into a massive puddle...in which began to take the shape of the most powerful living pathogen himself. "Haha! It always feels good to back out in the open...on an island?" Wither Sickness said, briefly stretching his tentacles out before realizing where he was. Bucky scurried up to him. "Ah, Wither Sickness! Glad you decided to show up, mate!" He said, patting the pathogen's leg. Wither Sickness looked down at the absent minded white ferret standing by his feet rather cluelessly. "Um...I didn't really have a choice on whether—"
"I need you to start helping everyone collect wood, lots of wood." Bucky explained, before giving Wither Sickness a quick scan. "Yeah, you seem like a strong guy. It should be no problem." He scurried away, returning to his tiny hut to work on it, leaving Wither Sickness confused...and offended by his last comment. "Seem like a strong guy?" He repeated, before turning to Eden. "Does he know I don't take orders from him?" The tigress sighed, and shook her head. "Unfortunately, no. But I'm giving you the order to do what he says unless told otherwise, just until he gets the message."
"It might be a while before that happens, Eden. Unless you plan on telling him." Petra said, as she dropped a handful of sticks into a pile. Eden, Ham, and Witherstorm did the same...all before wiping sweat off their foreheads and taking in a breath of air. "I was..." Eden said, replying to Petra, "...but something tells me he won't listen."
Some time later...
For the next twenty minutes, the gang spent the entirety of their time turning every stick and branch they collected into a shelter...and managed to pull off some sort of design. It was basically just a large box that was held together by vines and a bit of wet sand, and was big enough for everyone to fit in...unlike Bucky's hut that was mainly made for himself. "Well? What do you think?" Eden asked, as Bucky stroked his chin...looking more deep in thought than he should be. "Pretty good for beginners...I think you guys are finally getting into life as a castaway." He said. Just then, the team's wood hut began to creak, before immediately collapsing on itself and turning back into the pile of branches and twigs that it originally was...much to everyone's disappointment. Bucky gave a nervous chuckle. "Uhhh...well then, that was unexpected. Right, guys? Guys?" He turned around to find Wither Team with jaws agape with complete shock, and all he heard was a loud "UUUUGGGHHH..." before they all collapsed on the ground just like what was once their shelter.
