Chapter 3: "An Island? Go Figure..."

After the wave hit, things finally began to settle down...despite the fact that the ship had been complete and utterly demolished. Bits and pieces of wood floated away from the storm, and back into the calm waters...almost as if nothing happened. But after a few more seconds, a certain tigress popped out of the water and swam to a piece of the ship's debris to stay afloat...as she gasped and sputtered for breath. "Cough...cough...guys? Where are you?!" She called. There was no response, but Eden could make out a tiny figure paddling towards her. She recognized it as Cloud, who looked almost as terrified as she was. "Eden, is that you?" He asked, as he paddled faster. "Yeah, it's me, Cloud! Swim to the wood!" Eden replied. The pup paddled as fast as his little legs could take him, and climbed onto Eden's back once he finally reached the wood she was floating on. "Are you okay?" She asked him. "Yeah...yeah...I think so." He replied, panting rather heavily. "Where's everyone else?" Eden quickly looked around at their surroundings. "I don't know, I—"
"Heeey! Is anyone out there?!" They directed their attention to the voice, and could just barely make out the cyan bandana belonging to Petra...making it clear that it was her calling for them. Eden paddled closer to her and waved her arm to get her attention, and after a minute...Petra finally spotted them and proceeded to swim over to the driftwood they were floating on. "Petra, are you okay?" Eden asked, as she pulled her up. "Cough...cough...despite the fact that our only form of transportation has been turned into scrap...yeah, I've never been better." Petra replied, with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. Eden gave a sigh. "Your sarcasm is noted."
"But you understand why I'm sarcastic, right?" Petra asked. "Yes, we're lucky to be alive...but getting home will be nothing but a living hell from where we are now!" She heard someone clear their throat, before spotting Ham, Witherstorm, and Bucky paddling towards them on a piece of driftwood as well. "Such language, Petra. There's children here, remember?" Ham said, gesturing to Cloud. "He's used to it." Petra growled. "And I'd like to think that I have the right to use 'such language'! We're stranded out in the middle of the ocean!"
"Yes, but we are lucky to be alive...despite not knowing what to do now." Witherstorm said. Petra sighed, and gave a small nod of agreement. "Listen, we have to stay calm." Eden said. "We won't get anywhere if we're yelling at each other, so let's all take a minute...and think about our plan to get out of here." For about three solid minutes, the gang put on their thinking faces...and thought hard about their situation. But then Cloud looked around a bit, and decided to point out something pretty important. "Hey, there's an island over there!" Everyone directed their attention to where Cloud was pointing, and spotted a rather large island in the distance. It would take a while to get to, but it would be worth it...as it would give them a place to stay until someone rescued them. "An island?" Eden asked, suddenly looking disappointed. "Go figure..."
"All rioght! Nice sleuthing, Cloud! C'mon, then! Get to paddling!" Bucky piped up. Rolling their eyes, everyone began to paddle towards the island. "Does he know we don't take orders from him?" Petra asked, as Eden shrugged. "Not yet, at least."

Twenty minutes later...

After no more than twenty minutes, the gang arrived at the island's shore...tired and dripping wet. As everyone else collapsed on the hot sand, Bucky ran up and got down on his knees to scream to the heavens. "Hallelujah! We made it! Haha!" He shouted, as Petra narrowed her eyes. "Good, because now..." Bucky turned to face her, "...I'm going to kill you!!!" With that, Petra darted after the white ferret  before he yelped and scurried off screaming for help. After a minute or so of waiting for Petra to get all her anger out, Eden ran up and jumped in her way...to avoid potentially loosing any lives. "Let me go, Eden! You know how much he deserves this!" Petra yelled, as she tried to fight through Eden's grasp. "Petra, calm down!" Eden said, before pushing her away. "Listen, just take take a few deep breaths...and try to clear your mind just a little bit." Petra took a moment to do just that, inhaling and exhaling rather heavily as she put her hands on her head. "There we go." Eden said. "Deep breaths, woosa...woosa...." Petra took one last breath, before relaxing and standing up straight. "Okay, I think I'm good." Bucky gave a long sigh of relief, as Eden gave a nod and patted her friend on the back for a bit of comfort. "But there is one thing that I need to do." Petra added. She proceeded to spell out something in the sand with her foot, and gestured for Eden to look at it once she was done. "Read that."
"C-Y-A?" Eden said, looking down at the letters spelled at her feet. "No, no, no, sound it out." Petra ordered, as Eden squinted. "See ya?"  With that, Petra was off after Bucky again...and would've actually caught him if not for Ham and Witherstorm. "Petra, calm the frick down!" Eden shouted from behind. "No! I have every right to be upset, and the only thing that will calm me down is if you let me kill...THIS SORRY EXCUSE OF A SAILOR!!!!!" Petra shouted, causing Cloud to flinch somewhere behind them. The pup scrambled up to them, and grabbed onto Petra's leg as she continued to try and fight past Ham and Witherstorm. "Petra...Petra!" Cloud called, as she stopped struggling. "WHAT?!?!" Her sudden outburst caused her adopted son to shrink, as well as flatten his ears. "P-please calm down, I don't like to see you mad." He stammered. Petra noticed the look of fear in Cloud's eyes, and took another deep breath...before suddenly toning down her aggression. "Geez, Petra, when you're ready to go home, you're ready to go." Ham said. "Reminds me of my cousin." Eden added. "Listen, all we have right now is each other. Therefore, nobody is killing anyone...no matter how much they deserve it." She flashed a look of hostility to Bucky, who gulped in response as he nervously rubbed the back of his neck. "Um...thanks, Eden. Though the passive aggression was unneeded." He cleared his throat. "Look, I promise...I will find a way for us to get home. And would I ever break a promise?"
"Oh, I dunno...does the fact that you reassured us into thinking that there would be nothing but smooth sailing on the ship answer your question?" Petra asked, the hostility still in her voice. Bucky didn't respond, but looked down at the ground upon realizing how much of a point Petra made. Eden pinched the bridge of her nose and shook her head. "Alright, let's try to put that aside for a second." She said before looking off at the sun to find it setting. "Look, it's already getting late. We should prepare to stay the night."
"Um...excuse me?! You expect us to sleep out here, in the wild?!" Witherstorm piped up. "If you can live in a place like the Nether, you can survive a couple nights on an island." Eden said, as Witherstorm crossed his arms. "The Nether is completely different. It's nice and warm, while it's freezing cold out here."
"Then we should build a fire." Ham said. "Here, let me get some wood." He quickly ran around the beach, picking as much wood scraps and sticks as he could carry before dropping them in a pile in front everyone. He then kneeled down and began to smack two rocks together to try and create a spark, though nothing seemed to happen after the for or five times he did it. "What are you doing, mate?" Bucky asked. "I told you, I'm making a fire." Ham replied, as Bucky scoffed. "You're not gonna get anywhere using that method, mate." He spotted something shiny in the sand, and noticed that it was a shard from a broken mirror. He picked it up and held it up to the sunlight, as well as pointing it at the wood...and pretty soon, the wood started to smoke and catch aflame. "We have made fire!!!" Eden said, causing everyone to lighten up a bit. "So...what do we do now?" Cloud asked. Eden thought for a second, and came up with one idea...but it will either annoy everyone or potentially get them in a better mood. "Kumbaya my lord...kumbaya!" After looking at Eden in confusion for a minute, everyone else gave a shrug and began to sing along.

"Kumbaya my lord...kumbaya! Kumbaya my lord...kumbaya! Oh lord, kumbaya..."

Some time later...

After a bit, it was practically pitch black outside...aside from the fire lit by the team. Bucky had torn the oversized leaves down from a few of the island's trees, and gave it to the gang to use as a makeshift bed and blanket...so everyone would be comfortable, and hopefully not complaining in the morning. He was really trying hard to make up for his mistake of sailing through the storm, but it wasn't working as well as he wanted it to...due to the gang realizing at some point that the dimension hopper had been left back at the Horned Bird village. That unfortunately, meant that they would have to find away off the island in order to get home for real. But aside from that setback, Bucky was happy to share his survival skills with the gang...well, mainly Eden and Ham, because Witherstorm and Petra are actual Minecraftians. Or just Eden, 'cause she sucks at survival. "And I thought we wouldn't make it this far." Eden said, pulling her leaf blanket over her. "Look at us! We've got a nice fire going, we're comfortable, everything should be just fine tonight."
"I guess...what do you think, Cloud? Is this like home?" Petra asked the pup lying next to her. "Besides the fact that I normally sleep with you at home...no, not really." He replied. Eden rolled her eyes, as Petra chuckled and Ham yawned. "Well, we can complain about it tomorrow. Let's get some sleep for now." He said. "Goodnight." Witherstorm proceeded to bury himself under his leaf blanket. "G'night." Petra rolled into a more comfortable position, and Cloud snuggled up closer to her. "Don't wake me till noon." She said, causing Eden to chuckle. "Night, guys." Bucky slid down from the tree he planned on sleeping in, and scurried up to the campfire just as everyone was closing their eyes. "Tch, and they thought I couldn't handle everything." He then blew out the fire with one puff of air, causing everyone to sit up...all of a sudden irritated. "Why'd you go and do that, Bucky?!" Eden said, as Bucky looked confused. "Don't tell me you guys don't turn off the light when you go to bed." He said, as Witherstorm facepalmed. "That fire was the only thing keeping us warm, y'know." He said. "Oh, well, no problem...we'll just light another one." Bucky said. "How?" Witherstorm asked, as Bucky grinned. "Uh, with the mirror, and the sun?" He briefly looked up at the sky. "Oh...." Everyone shook their heads in disappointment, before sucking it up and going to sleep. It was sure to be a very interesting stay at this island.
