Chapter 21: The Reveal
Several moments later, Eden was jogging back to the beach with the wild boar strewn over her shoulder...eager to share her news with the rest of the Wither Team. She had hidden the treasure in a small pocket in the side of the island next to the tunnel that led to the ocean, and piled rocks and dirt atop of it to make sure that there was absolutely no chance of anyone finding it. Especially the Tribe of Thundering Claws, for sure. The rest of the Wither Team were crowded around Ham as Eden approached them. "Hey, guys!" She said. "I've got— what's Ham doing?" Eden pointed to the tabby cat, who was lying in the sand while snuggling with a coconut that had a face drawn on it. "We have no idea." Petra replied. "He started doing it a few minutes after you left." Witherstorm added. "I told you two already!" Ham stood up and held the coconut in one arm. "This is Wilfred, my new companion. We've had some very enlightening conversations." The other three were silent for a moment, staring at Ham in disbelief. "Yeah, we have got to get off this island." Petra retorted. "Okay...never mind that." Eden said. "I have something to show you guys."
"It doesn't have anything to do with the ferret tribe, does it?" Witherstorm asked. Eden shook her head. "Just go get Cloud and Wither Sickness, and meet me in the jungle. I'll explain on the way." She ran off back to the jungle again as her teammates shared looks of confusion with each other. "Can Wilfred come?" Ham shouted to Eden. From far off, he heard her scoff. "Leave the coconut!"
Several minutes later...
Eden eagerly padded far ahead of her team, and they struggled to keep up with her on the count that she was moving so fast. "C'mon, Eden!" Ham whined. "Tell us where we're going! Wilfred and I are on our tenth game of tic-tac-toe, I've got a winning streak to keep up here!"
"You can play with your coconut later. What I found is a hundred times more important." Eden replied. Ham crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes, grumbling a few complaints. "Can't be more important than tic-tac-toe..."
"Up here!" Eden bounded forward several lengths and stopped at the water tunnel she found earlier, the Wither Team followed behind quickly before gathering around with their leader. "That's it?" Petra asked. "A a tiny pool of water?"
"Doesn't take a lot fascinate Eden, these days." Wither Sickness joked. The tigress groaned in annoyance and opened her mouth to speak again before Cloud stepped forward. "You didn't take us here to show us a little pool, did you?"
"No, Cloud, I did not." Eden replied. "And for you guy's information, this is not a pool...but rather a tunnel."
"That leads to where?"
"The ocean."
"Still not all that interesting, Eden." Ham said. "I'm going back to the beach." Eden grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled back to the group before he could get far. "It's not the tunnel and the ocean itself, it's what I found down there." She told them. "Wait here." The tigress activated her water breathing and hopped down into the tunnel, leaving the others watching with curiosity before their leader soon popped back up with the radiant gold chest of treasure. "Impressed now?" Eden said, smirking. The Wither Team couldn't seem to speak, and were sputtering out broken and inaudible words as they tried to form a sentence. It was definitely an amazing discovery to be the cherry on top of all the success that the team had begun to maintain. "That...is one massive treasure chest!" Ham finally said. "And you just found it there, completely unguarded?" Petra asked. Eden shook her head as she got out of the water and pushed the treasure up onto the land. "Not completely unguarded, I kinda had to fight off a giant electric eel before I could take it." She said. "But get this, I suspect that this is the treasure that Bucky was searching for in the very first place before we got here." The others once again shared expressions of surprise...and even amusement. By now the thought of how they got on the island in the first place had mostly been forgotten, as it only seemed to make everyone grouchy...just because they were able to survive now didn't mean they started to enjoy their situation. "Wow, who would've thought..." Witherstorm said. "Wait till we tell Bucky!" Ham said. "He'll be so excited!" The rest of the team looked at Ham as if he just said that they should all sacrifice themselves to the ferret tribe. "Your joking, right?" Petra asked. "We're not telling Bucky squat!" Eden said. "After everything's he's done? He doesn't deserve this!"
"Yeah, and if he still cared, I'm sure he'd be searching the island from top to bottom for it. At least that's what I would do." Wither Sickness added. Ham shrugged and gave a small nod of agreement. "Fair point."
"Have you opened it yet, Eden?" Cloud asked. "I wanna see what's inside!" Eden smiled, now eager to take a look at whatever was in the chest. "No, Cloud, I have not looked inside, actually. Let us have a look, shall we?" She unsheathed a claw and picked the lock that was holding it shut before opening it...and the gang's eyes all lit up with amazement. Inside the chest was an assortment of gold and brightly colored jewels of all sorts, shining brightly in the light of the morning sun. Once everyone got good eyeful of it, Petra quickly shut the chest again. "Hide this back down in the tunnel!" She said. "No one must know that we've got it!"
"On it!" Eden replied. She dragged the chest back into the water and quickly hid it again, returning a moment later before leaving for the beach again with her team. Little did they know, while they were discussing their discovery, Kane and Archie had been watching from a nearby bush the entire time. They were lucky that Eden hadn't picked up their scent, most likely because she had a nose filled with the stench of saltwater at that moment. "They found the treasure!" Archie gasped. "They actually found the treasure! C'mon, let's go get it!" Kane quickly stopped the sable ferret from rushing into the water tunnel. "No. I don't know how the tigress does it herself, but I know for sure that we wouldn't be able to breathe underwater for more than a minute."
"Okay...so what do we do? We're not gonna let them have it, are we?" Archie asked. "Don't be ridiculous, of course not." Kane replied. "The next time they bring it up, we'll ambush them and take it directly from their thieving paws." A mischievous grin then formed on the large badger's face as he chuckled evilly. "Just gotta have a couple spies keeping an eye out for the goods."
