I was walking down the hall after hearing about the dance. I fiddled with my thumbs wondering if I should go or not. I wasn't even looking where I was going when I bumped into him. My eyes gazed up almost in slow motion as I saw his green eyes. It was Bryn. My face erupted into a palate of fifty shades of pink. It was my crush.

'Stay calm Joni stay calm...' I tried to tell myself but it wasn't working.

"I-I I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention and it felt like one minute the hall was empty and then you were just there.. Not that it's your fault I mean I was just not paying attention like I said and I'm really sorry...." I was babbling like a fool. I looked down extremely nervous. But he just stared at me waiting for me to finish.

"Relax ok. It's fine." He said "I don't think we've met before have we?"

"N-no we haven't.. I-I'm Joan Holmes, you can call me Joni if you want." I said.

"Bryn Hafer," he said holding a hand out to shake mine "nice to meet you." He flashed me a smile and I shook his hand. I took a deep breath.

"Ah you play tennis right?." I said "I've heard you play competitively. That's pretty cool, I have a lot of respect for athletes."

He raised an eyebrow probably wondering how I knew that since we never actually met. "Um thanks." He said

'Well he doesn't know you exist so of course he doesn't know you get a lot of information working for the school paper.. Not to mention you 'like" him...' I chuckled nervously

"Anyways..So you hear about the dance..?" I started

He nodded "yeah I did." He said

"You going?"

"I'm not sure.." I said honestly,"are you?" I had calmed down slightly

"I was planning to," he shrugged "nothing better to do."

"I see." I said and glanced down timidly at my feet.

"Wanna come with me?" He asked nonchalantly

I blinked and I felt my heart skip a beat. "Um.. I'd love to." I said trying to not sound too overly excited like the giddy school girl I felt like. I smiled at him and nodded "I'll meet you there then?" I asked

He nodded "sounds good." He said and smiled again. His smile I swear could light up the night sky.

I waved quickly and ran to find Ari and Dani. I knew they'd need my help with makeup, and since I happen to be good at it I figured I'd help. Not to mention they're my best friends.

I felt his eyes on me as I went away. I smiled at my luck.

Time to pull out my dress.

When I went to find dani and Ari. I decided to not tell them what happened right away at least. I didn't wanna jinx anything. I knew they would be happy for me but I figured if all went well I would tell them after.

I quickly helped them by doing their makeup.

I did my own makeup a little extravagantly. I wore a light pink blush, and fake eyelashes with tiny rhinestones on the tips of the lashes. The eyeshadow I wore was a combination of shades of blue and green to bring out my hazel eyes. My lips I painted rose red, and I added glitter to my eye lids and cheeks. I wore around my neck a brilliant necklace with gems weaved in and out of it's twisted form. I also wore teardrop shaped diamond earrings.

I crafted my hair into a beautiful side swept hair style. Long, soft, delicate curls fell gently on my left shoulder. . The dress I chose was a coral pink color, and was covered with sparkles. Head to toe I had glitter. The skirt part was puffy and shimmered when I shifted and moved. The sleeves started half way down my shoulder and were long and sheer down my arm.I put on a pair of elegant heels that were pretty comfortable for heels.

Ari wore a lovely one strap blue dress that went from dark to light at the bottom. She wore black pumps that I think actually belong to dani but they share shoes so much I hardly even tell which pairs belong to either of them.

Dani wore a beautiful short white dress with elegant lace at the top and had a small shimmering rhinestone belt. To finish the look she wore pretty silver pumps.

"It seems our work here is done, let's go show the world out fabulousness!" I teased

We began to head to the dance. Ari and Dani had gotten into an argument. After a long bit of tension I realized they were debating over going to the dance. Well I knew I was going either way and I didn't wanna get in the middle, but they decided on going anyway so the problem solved itself.

Then I heard the boys running over. Leo and my cousin Adam.

"Hey wait up!" Adam called

"We were gonna ask you guys to the dance as a group because we didn't wanna pick favorites."

"I'm already going with Bryn." I shook my head. As I tried to avoid getting giddy. "Well I'm meeting him there." I said more quietly as the rest of them chatted. I'd go with them but I knew I would find Bryn after we got there. After a while of silly talk and nonsense we finally got back to to getting there and headed to the dance together.

I stepped in and scanned the room for Bryan. Leo and Adam and I wandered off to get drinks. At least that's what I let them think. I wanted to find Bryn. I didn't see him so I wandered around getting lost in the crowd. I had to hold my dress up a little bit as I moved through the crowd. I wandered until I heard someone say my name behind me.

"Joan."

His voice lingered like the bells that echo in the cathedrals of Rome. I smiled and turned to face him.

"Hi.." I said smiling.

He smiled back "well, wanna dance or something."

I chuckled "yes I'd love to dance, or something."

I went with him to the dance floor and danced with him. I felt like I was floating on air. I don't know about him but I had a lot of fun. After a while we sat down and began to talk getting to know one another.

"So you obviously know I play tennis, what do you do for fun?"

He asked

"I play soccer, and I write for the school paper. That's how I knew." I said. I felt like I needed to explain myself so I didn't sound like a stalker.

"That's cool, what position in soccer to you play?"

"Defense. I love it" I smiled and started talking about the game, I went on a bit of a tangent about it.

I smiled at him.

"One time, I was up in the front near the opponents' goal and I kicked the ball in. I wasn't even supposed to be up that close but my goal won the game." I said excitedly

"Wow that's awesome" he said

"So what else are you into?"I asked

"Chess." He said.

I raised an eyebrow "I know it's not a very popular pastime but it's very intriguing and makes you think....." He started to tell me all about it and I was actually interested by the time he finished.

We talked more and more and as I got to know him I realized he was more than just a handsome talented boy, he has a beautiful personality. I smiled as we spoke and I was very happy I bumped into him accidentally that day. Maybe fate isn't as cruel as I thought. Maybe my luck is changing.
