Adam Bennett - Challenge Three

"Hamilton?"
The haunting name echoes through the theater as the lights flicker on. Bryn Hafer has a girl, caked in blood, against the wall. The girl, who I remember to be, was Hamilton Meredith Lee. She was pale and boney. A glass shard was clutched in her white hand, her light blue eyes wild. Students was frozen in shock as their eyes glanced on the person who called herself, "Macbeth."
"Hamilton?" repeats Bryn in shock. Police officers step forward and tell Bryn to release her before they cuff her. A wet tear breaks from her eye as she is escorted away. I suddenly speak up, "Everyone! Return to your dorms for now and do not go anywhere else. Officers, escort the students and staff back safely to their dorms." They all nod and students start filing out.
I walk toward Bryn, which was still on the stage. "Bryn." I said. He looks up to me with a questioning look. "What you done today is brave and you have stopped a savage killer. You did well." He nods and mumbles, "Thank you, sir." "Now go to your dorm and rest," I assured with a smile on my face. He nods and leaves the theatre. Now, the next problem.
Jane comes toward me and gives me a map of the tunnels which are clearly marked with letters, names and numbers. I dial Arabella. She answers immediately. "Adam? What is going on?" "I will tell you when I get into the tunnels and find you." I said with a snap before hanging up. I have a bad feeling as I look around the theatre.
I walk backstage and see an art of murder. Professor McGraw is hung from a hook that sticks out of his neck. Blood drips and stains his clothes. Down to the floor where two bodies lie. Gwendoline de Angelo is down on her knees and weeping blood down her cheeks. Blood stains her blonde hair and clothes. The other body belonged to Leia White.
She is in a similar position as poor Gwendoline and crimson blood covers her hair and blood leaks from her neck wound onto her skirt. I shiver as I see the three bodies together almost like an art, a mural, a painting. A painting. There may be a killer who done this, either Hamilton or someone else. A painter, drawn by blood and murder.
When I get out I see a crushed body. From her features and clothes, it appeared to be the former Science professor Sarah Jordan. It appeared that several people had trampled her like a pack of hogs. She had a knife in her hand, loosely held. Then I see a fifth body, Harlow King. Blood drizzled from the wounds in her chest, blank eyes looked into nothing but darkness.
I walk away into the tunnels. Body number six was a boy that I recalled had the name of Reid Hollows. Blood stained his clothes, his face was blue and purple bruises graced his throat. Suddenly I see a note. I picked it up. It read, "Catch me if you can, I'll vanish without a trace." I frown and fold the bloody note before sliding it into my shirt pocket.
I pull out a pen and look for markings in the wall. Then I see AE-3 and search for it in the map. Where it said AE-3, I wrote, "Reid Hollows, dead." The next body I find was a red haired girl named Mary-Kate Tesler. Blood oozed out the back of her hand and she leaned against the wall, a bloody trail left behind on the stone wall.
Almost as she was jammed against the wall before dying. I marked, "Mary-Kate Tesler, dead." under UT-2. I continued on until I reached the eighth body of the massacre, her fate was a stab to the hip and down like a waterfall. The person who had met the fate was, to my sadness, Gabby Caperealla, who I marked under SW-87.
The final body was gruesome. The victim was Sabrina Longcape. Blood was covering her face in crimson red. Scratches wrecked her face. The scratches was probably made with nails. Long, sharp nails. I presumed that Hamilton may have killed Sabrina, but who knows? I mark Sabrina on the map of the tunnels and continue to find Arabella.
I soon found her. "Ari?" She shrieks in surprise and turns to me. "Adam?! You scared me!" she screams.
"Sorry, Ari." I mutter, rolling my eyes. "I saw that." snorts Arabella. "So, anyway, what is the hell going on?!" her voice rises and echoes through the tunnels. I sigh deeply. "There was a massacre. Nine is dead. Bryn Hafer caught 'Macbeth.' The students and staff are in the dorms, now is there anything else you need to know?!" I snap.
"Yes." she confirms, "Show me the bodies. Now." The last word is like hard steel. "But firstly, I need to show you this." I say, pulling out the bloody note that was on Reid's body. She snatches the note from my hand and reads it out loud, "Catch me if you can, I'll vanish without a trace." Her worried eyes rises to my darker, deeper ones.
"For sure, there is someone else killing besides Macbeth, anyway who was Macbeth?" she says. "Macbeth was Hamilton Meredith Lee." I reply. Her mouth moves in shock. "Come on, you said you wanted to see the dead." I said uncertainly. "Yes, right." she says. When we reach Sabrina, she feels nervous. Then we slowly edge out the tunnels as we pass each body.
Gabby Caperealla with her bleeding waterfall, Mary-Kate Tesler with her bloody head and Reid Hollows, strangled to death and also the bearer of his killer's note. She looks sick when she saw the crushed body of Sarah Jordan and the chopped body of Harlow King. Finally the art of Walter McGraw, Gwendoline de Angelo and Leia White.
"Three." Arabella says out loud. "Hmm?" I questioned. "There has to be three murderers. Macbeth, who we know as Hamilton Lee, the person with the note, I'll vanish without a trace, Trace and whoever did this artistic mess is a murderer-and a painter, Painter." "Macbeth, Trace and Painter." I say. "That makes sense. That is a good theory, Ari."
"Ok, we need to clean up this mess." I say. "Stay here and I'll get some officers. Also give them this map so they can find the bodies in the tunnels." Arabella nods and walks away with her phone. I walk to the boys dorm to talk to the head officers. "Mr Bennett?" inquires one as I come into the dorm. "Get some backup to get the bodies." I snap with command.
"Yes, Mr Bennett, but how many bodies are there?" "Nine." I reply. "Now do what I just said. Miss Blackwell will be waiting for back up." "Yes, Mr Bennett." "Also you go to the storage room in the cafeteria," I hand them the key for the room, "and get some canned food and spread them to all of the students and staff. Now I have business to do so farewell and keep the students at bay."
I walk into the school and into my office. When I enter, the phone rings and I pick it up before saying, "Hello?" A police officer's voice says, "We got information from Hamilton, or what she calls herself, "Macbeth," that she killed Matthew Jackson, Joules, Gabby Caperealla, Sabrina Longcape and Mary-Kate Tesler." "Okay, thank you." I mutter before dropping the phone with a clang.
I run my hair through my messy hair and shut my eyes. What a mess. Then I think of something. I gather pictures of everyone that was in the school after Trevino's death, including Trevino. I take all of them, pins, a stack of sticky notes and a roll of red tape to my room. I reach the bulletin board and tear down the news articles and pin each picture on the board.
Then I rip tape off the roll and one by one, make a red X on some of the pictures, then I stuck sticky notes on the Xs, one by one. One by one.
Nicholi Trevino. Fell to death on first day of school on campus
Beth Rose. Throat slashed. Trace?
Matthew Jackson. Stabbed with stick. Macbeth.
Joules. Voice cords ripped from throat. Macbeth written above head. Macbeth.
Mary-Kate Tesler. Smashed against wall to death. Macbeth.
Sarah Jordan. Trampled until she died. Trace?
Harlow King. Stabbed to death. Trace?
Gabby Caperealla. Slashed at hip and bled to death. Macbeth.
Sabrina Longcape. Scratched by nails and bled to death. Macbeth.
Walter McGraw. Killed by hook and put in a painting with two girls. Painter.
Leia White and Gwendoline de Angelo. Killed at McGraw's feet and made art. Painter.
Hamilton Lee. "Macbeth." Killed five.
Sixteen of us in the student body and staff remained if you didn't include Arabella. I slumped into bed and I lie wide awake all night. The next morning, a police officer came to me and told me, "Hamilton Lee killed herself." He showed me the picture of her dead body in her cell. She had scratched herself, stabbed her eyes and finally stabbing her throat.
I walk into my office, not surprised to see Arabella sitting on a chair. "Hamilton is dead." I say with a weary voice. "I know, I heard." she responds. I flop into my chair and close my eyes. "How many dead?" "Nine, including Gabby. Before she died, Hamilton did admit that she only killed three. There's still a murderer, possibly more than one, running around campus."
I nod, remembering the arrest of Hamilton, the note saying, 'I'll vanish without a trace' and McGraw and the two girls in the dead painting like art. Then Arabella's phone blasts out in song. We both cringe, knowing who it is without her checking. She presses "voicemail," cutting off the squealing. "You're not going to answer?" I wonder as I watch her put it away.
She shakes her head and runs her hair through her hair. "Absolutely not, we should've shut Carter Hollow down after the theatre incident. It's been several hours since the doors were pried open and we've neglected to do that." "What are we going to do then?" "Campus lockdown. No one leaves, no one enters."
"Those murderers are somewhere within these gates, we need to find them before anyone else dies." "Where can we lock everyone in? The theatre is....not an option." I mutter, cringing slightly. She pinches her lips and crosses her arms over her chest. "The gymnasium. it's new so no creepy tunnels running underneath it."
"It's a big, wide, open space and it'd be hard for someone to kill without being caught. The only places someone could get another alone are the bathrooms, the locker rooms and the announcement balcony. " I nod, thinking before saying, "Okay. Let's do it."
