ELYSTIA
Im peaceful as I lay in my captain's arms. Flushed from head to toe with pleasure. I brush my hand across his strong forearm which he keeps tucked around my waist. The furs are tangled between our legs, damp with my sweat and Zairo's cum. He breathes evenly, like he didn't break a sweat. His soft, calm breaths keep me aroused. My body is keenly aware of his prowess. How he could fuck me all night and not break a sweat. And part of me wants to ride the Captain to his full potential.
My hooded eyes stare at the parted flaps of the tent. The wind gently shifts them, welcoming streaks of lamp-light inside. I hear distant chattering from a pair of masters, and the bellowing of an animal. I'm realizing now that at some point, this camp became my home. I'm not sure when. Maybe it was a few minutes ago, when Zairo was nailing the idea with every thrust of his hips. I felt complete as he fucked me—full to my limits, but fulfilled. I've been to many places all over Terra, but laying under Zairo has to be the most magical one. He made me discover new sensations in my body. Eased me into handing him all my trust in exchange for pleasure. He is unforgettable.
I close my eyes and rest my palm on his forearm, slipping into a dreamless sleep with a smile on my lips.

Sunlight streaming from the tent flaps warms the side of my face. I stretch and roll over the cold furs, finding that Zairo no longer lays beside me.
"I'll fetch you a breakfast platter and draw a bath," comes his rumbling voice.
I find him sitting behind his desk, working.
His eyes fall to my chest. "Cover up."
I chuckle as I cover myself. "Sorry. Didn't mean to distract you."
He keeps his attention on his desk.
"Thank you for last night. It was wonderful," I tell him.
He inhales deeply, the flute in his hand snapping in half and spluttering ink all over the desk.
I frown. "Zairo?"
"Apologies," he says as he scrambles to clean up. "The flute has been giving me trouble all day."
"Need help?"
"I've got it."
He looks frustrated as he gathers the paperwork and tosses it to one side of the desk, lifting his ruined tunic over his head. Tension thickens the air, clasping with silence. I don't know why. As I watch Zairo scramble to clean up and mutter curses under his breath, I realize that yesterday's concerns have not been put to rest. There is something amiss. I may be illiterate, miss cultural cues and not be as engaging as Sidra, but I can sense awkwardness.
Why? Zairo had been so alive last night. So in sync with the moment and my body. I couldn't tell where he ended and I began. We were like one. Our movements flowing together, our breaths mixing, my body responding robustly to even the briefest, softest touch.
And now that seems like a distant dream.
Where is the gentle master that I met in the woods? Whose shoe I spat on and somehow drew him closer? Now he seems an island away from me. The intimacy we shared last night didn't fix it.
"I'm going to check on Sidra after my bath. I'm sure she's worried."
He nods. "I have meetings with a couple of masters. Expecting a shipment soon from the..."
"From where?"
He clears his throat. "From the palace. Equipment for the masters."
"Alright. So I'll meet you later?"
"Yes. There should be updates on the fire investigation. I will report to you tonight."
I slide off the bed and dig through the bag containing my few belongings. Hand-me-down clothes from entertainers and the few sets I brought from Terra. I can't wrap my head around how much life has changed since I got on that ship and sailed to the mainland. Not much has changed over the past few weeks. I'm still too curious for my own good, still an archer, still a starry-eyed girl from Terra. But Zairo managed to make the world a bit more vibrant. Even as I lay underneath him in a dimly-lit tent, his lips muttering dark promises, I saw a vibrant fire. I don't want to lose that. That's why this newfound distance of his is terrifying.
I set a dress aside, watching Zairo as he easily lifts a metal tub full of water into the tent, his biceps flexing and jaw gritting. But he doesn't make a single sound.
"Come," he welcomes me, before returning his attention to the mess on his desk.
I sink into the tub, somewhat disappointed that his eyes don't stray over my nude body. He's lost in thought. Distracted by something unseen.
I make quick work of bathing, erasing a few signs of Zairo's visit. But not all of them. My hair is still tangled and my sex still tender. Goosebumps spread across my body as I remember the things he did to me.
Focus. You need to see Sidra.
I dry and change into my dress, peeking at Zairo ever so often. "I'm going to take my breakfast and eat with Sidra. Is that alright?"
"Of course."
He's so quiet, like he's hiding. I wonder what Sidra will have to say about this. Maybe she'll have advice after she finishes freaking out over the fact that I slept with our captain.
— —
"Maybe he's scared because he discovered he's in love with you and over his head," Sidra suggests, throwing a few popping seeds into her mouth and keeping her lips parted for the satisfying sound of the crackling.
I chuckle. "That's not it."
We sit on grass by the edge of the forest as I await my students for their archery class.
"I'm happy for you for snatching a captain, Elystia, but I've got no advice. A man of that caliber is too complex for me to understand. I can see why he chose you. You're a good friend and a dedicated woman. That's the only part of him that I can read. You know him better than I do. Wouldn't he tell you the truth if you just asked?"
I tried that already. I asked him yesterday why he was so distant, and his response was throwing me on the bed and fucking me—a rather effective, tactical move. I can see why he was selected to rule this army.
"Feels like I'm walking on shells around him. The fragile, pink shells we used to collect on the beach."
She shrugs. "He barged into a burning tent to rescue you. There's no doubt he cares about you. If he saved you from fire then surely he won't be afraid of a conversation. Don't complicate it and just poke a few more times about what's on his mind. Ease him into it. Suck his dick to relax him."
I dig my elbow into her side. "Relax. I'm not an experienced entertainer yet."
"There's only one way to get there, friend. You've got a lot of dick sucking to do."
I pull my bowstring back and pretend to shoot an arrow at her. "Very well. I'll stop wasting time and ask him what the big secret is. I'm sure it can't be that bad, right?"
Sidra nods. "Surely not. A man like that has the power to move mountains and drain rivers. The mighty captain can solve whatever is irking him."
"Hopefully," I reply. "I'll keep you posted. Now it's your turn to lay your secrets in the sunlight. Which master have you been fancying lately?"
"Where do I start? There's so many of them." She sighs.
