Chapter 9-The Mysterious Cave

Phil and Denny reached the cave.  They peered inside, "Denny, I think we might had better return everyone but Jes."

"Yea, Jes can light up the cave, too bad we now have to carry all the gear ourselves."

"Maybe... Hey, Blazer, you think you can carry Craig's pack for a while?" He nodded,  "All right, everyone return!  Jes, light it up,"  Jes' fur crackled with electricity lighting up the cave.

"Good, we can see without using up precious batteries."

"Yea, we better get moving though, it might be dark by the time we get through if we don't hurry."

"You're right, Phil, we have little time to lose."

They walked into the cave, and followed a slight path.  They soon came to a more difficult part to cross.  It was a two and a half foot wide crack.  It had narrow ledges on both sides, but there was still a hole big enough to fall through.

"This is why few people take this path, but it leads to a spectacular hidden valley.  However, the valley is only accessible in this way.  We will leave in a different way, but that is a surprise.  You need to be somewhat small, and if you are carrying gear then you must have certain Pokemon to help you, or it is even more difficult.  We may have even needed to make multiple trips through.  Here we have press our backs to the left wall and put our hands on the right.  We stand on the right ledge.  Blazer and Jes will have to stand split legged on the two ledges.  If you don't like heights, don't look down."

"I am a little nervous about height above ground, but for some reason it doesn't effect me underground."

"Interesting, alright, Phil, you had better let Jes lead or we won't be able to see.  Blazer has the best night vision so he should go in the back."

"Denny, you know what to look out for, so you go ahead of me and warn me if there is a hazard."

"You got it."

"Jes, lead on."

They climbed into the hole in their assigned order first Jes, then Denny, after him was Phil, and finally Blazer.  They made it through the crack with only slight difficulty, and continued through the cave.  They saw many beautiful displays.  Massive pillars of rock, large ravines, massive caverns, stalagmites and stalactites.  They saw many things of this beautiful nature.  There were many strange and rare Pokemon dwelling inside they saw large Onix tunneling, floating Gastly and Misdreavus, and  a couple Sableye passed them by.  They also saw a pair of Wobbuffet staring each other down, a flock of Gligar clung to the roof, and a Torkoal was warming one cavern for a group of smaller Pokemon.

"Wow, it sure is beautiful in here isn't it Denny?"

"Why do you think I like it so much?  Come on, we will come back later to meditate."

'Denusho sure has it right,'   Horace thought to himself. 'These caves are among the most magnificent things I have ever seen.  I am very lucky that they came this way, and showed me, even if unknowingly, this place.'

"Hey, Denny, how did I do in my battle earlier?"

"Phil, you were amazing, the confidence with which you ordered attacks, the bond between you and your Pokemon even though you have just met them is quite amazing."

'This is very true.  I have rarely felt that confidence from such a trainer, one so early in his journey.  I should expect it though, he is his grandfather's grandson.'

"Hey, Denny, what is this?"  Phil asked pointing to a passage through the wall.

"I do not know.  I have never seen it before.  It may have opened recently."

"Well, why don't we check it out?"

"Because, it is almost dark.  Remember?"

"Yea, but we might not find it again.  Come on!"

"Phil, wait up!"  Phil darted into the cave.  Denny soon followed.

'Those boys are going to get in a lot of trouble one day,'  Horace thought before following them.

As he disappeared a Cheshire grin appeared in the dark, followed by deep evil laugh.

They traveled deeper into the cave, it began to get very cold.

"Why is it so cold in here?"

"I honestly don't know, Phil.  It is not winter yet.  It could just be better insulated in here so it stays cold year round."

"Then why is there a Pokemon in there!?"  They looked to the wall and inside was a Pokemon, frozen solid in ice.

"It looks like a Pawniard.  Phil, it is a whole legion of them."

"How did they all get in here?"

"Look at that mural over there.  These Pawniard have been here for over a century!"

"A century, but then what froze them?"

"Look,"  The opposite wall was another giant mural.  It depicted the legion of Pawniards led by a blue Bisharp against an army of.... shadows?  They saw a couple of icy Pokemon in the back, very feminine in appearance.  They were freezing the army, slowly but surely.  "Phil, those are Froslass and if one of them still resides in here..."

"Denny, what is..."

"Phil, be quiet.  There is a Gengar present."

"Oh ho, the little Aura boy found me out.  Boo hoo.  Are you scared yet?"

"I am not scared."

"Phil, what are you doing?"

"Trust me."

"Hey honey.  We have guests."

"Yes darling, I know.  I was going to let you have some fun first," a Froslass emerged from a side cave.  It elegantly swept in.  "Mmmmm.  They look, delicious.  Unlike that last person you dragged in."

"Hey, it was all I could do.  Those Pokemon better get some sleep first though,"  the Gengar clapped his hands, and Jes and Blazer fell over asleep.  The rest of their Pokemon fell out of their Pokeballs and also fell asleep to.

'Good thing I trained for that.  Phil and Denusho might be in some serious trouble.'

"Ha ha ha, we have plenty of time now, don't we boys."

"Oh, poor Gengar I feel sorry for you."

"What do you mean?"

"Usha de la Gengar.  Esta expleus de la Gengar.  Usha de la."

The Froslass suddenly blew a gust of cold air.  Trapping Phil in ice.

"Good work honey."

"Thanks darling."

"Ugghh.. Ghostly love.  I'm not sure what is worse, the romance or the fact that my friend is trapped in ice."

'This ends now,'  Horace thought.  He raced forward, cloaking himself in an illusion.

"Wait what is that?"  Gengar wondered aloud.

"Its the Bisharp General!  How did he escape from his icy tomb?"  Froslass screamed.  The ghosts looked at each other.

"Run!"  they screamed running for the opening.  The Bisharp chased them out.

"What was that?"  All the Pokemon began to stir.  "Blazer you need to thaw out Phil.  You have to do it very slowly though or it could hurt him."  Blazer nodded,  "I am going to go look around.  See if they left anything.  I have a flashlight so you, Jes, Evie, Edward, and Craig stay here.  I am going to take a look around with Zoey and Sir Kane,  come on."

Denny left them to slowly remove Phil from the ice.  Denny explored several chambers before he found what he was looking for, "Jackpot,  Zoey check for traps."  Zoey darted forward.  She darted in and around the whole room.  "No traps.  I guess that those ghosts were pretty cocky."  He set about to pillaging.  He eventually came across a set of tomes.

"These are some strange tomes.  Look, this is a manuscript describing ancient Pokemon.  It is an amazing discovery.  I had better send word to the nearest outpost so they can come collect these."  Denny opened up his mind.

'Hello, who is there?'

'It is me Denusho.  I have found some ancient manuscripts, tomes, and scrolls that were being horded by a Gengar and a Froslass.  I will send coordinates.  These must be preserved.  I think we should also investigate the whole area.   There may be more things hidden away.'

'Sounds like a plan.  Let me know if there is anything else.'

'Will do.'

"Ok, we had better go check on Phil."  When they got back Phil was thawed out and resting along with his Pokemon.  Suddenly a pair of Aura Guardians came through a portal.

"Who is he?"

"A friend, go to the back.  We are leaving once I wake him."

"Yes sir."

Denny woke Phil, who sat up and looked at Denny.

"I have never felt so cold."

"Well, I highly doubt you have been in a block of ice before."

"That is not what I meant.  That chant, my grandfather taught it to me.  It would have banished Gengar, unable to leave the shadows, attack, or do really anything but watch, for all of eternity."

"Well, he was kind of trying to kill us."

"Denny, look at my Aura."

Denny gave him a look, but peered into the Aura anyway.  He was extremely surprised.

"Phil, your Aura is depleted, but it is like you have been pricked.  Your Aura is now active!  That chant must be an ancient Aura ability, long lost.  Where did your grandfather get it?"

"First, is my Aura being depleted why I feel so cold?  Second, he has a Gengar, named Ginny, that told him the chant should he come across a particularly evil Gengar that defeated his Pokemon."

"I see....  Oh, but you are right your aura being depleted..."  Denny had to stop and dodge because Phil suddenly keened over.  "Oh, you used to much Aura in that chant.  You would be fine if you had any training, but since your Aura was just activated you could not handle it.  It is also probably from the shock on your body from your Aura being active.  Well, active might not be the right term, more like spontaneous, flowing, alive, or maybe astir."

"Well, Denny, that is nice and all, but could you help me up?" he tried getting up, but fell and blacked out.

"No, you are sitting on Craig for the rest of the way, but you can not hear me anyway, can you?  Craig, get over here,"  Craig came over, looking worried. "Do not worry Craig, he is just a little sick, and all he needs is a little rest.  I need you to carry him though, He probably outweighs me by fifty pounds.  I could not carry him very well at all, and you are the biggest Pokemon.  Likely, the only one who could support Phil's weight.  I saw a saddle in the other room that would fit you hang on."

Denny retrieved the saddle and put it on Craig's back.  He then lifted Phil, with some difficulty on to Craig's back.  "I was right," Denny said as he secured Phil so he would not fall, "Phil is too heavy for me to carry for any length of time.  I could if I harnessed my Aura, but we can not have both of us unconscious, after all, Phil is quite heavy."

Phil was in place.  Denny then led the horde of Pokemon out of the cave.  They would soon reach the exit.
