Chapter 28-The Destination of the Scrolls
Phil woke suddenly. The teen sat up, and sleepily tried to divine what had woken him. After a moment, his phone range again.
"Hello?"
"Morning, Phil! I finished the analysis of the data package you sent me."
"Okay, can't you just send it to my Pokedex wirelessly?"
"Yes, of course. It should already be there. The Campagna Pokedex now contains information on Aveon, the Flying type Evolution."
"Why did you call me?"
"Well, based on the data you gave me, Aveon is a fast flyer with great endurance. It also hits very hard. However, Aveon does not have the greatest resistance to attacks, especially ones that do not make physical contact."
"Thanks, goodbye."
"Bye Phil!"
Phil hung up, and then checked the time.
"Could seriously not have waited. It's four in the morning! Once I wake up, I can never get back to sleep. Looks like I'm getting an early start."
The Aura Guardian stumbled downstairs for coffee, and a lot of it. He also ate breakfast, about a dozen pancakes.
"I've never eaten this much in my life. I wonder if my Aura is consuming more energy, of if it just boosting my metabolism. Either way, I can live with eating a truckload and not gaining weight."
'Phil! Where are you?'
'Blazer, the professor called two hours ago. I woke up and came downstairs for coffee.'
'Oh, okay. Should I wake the others?'
'No, let them sleep. We have a busy day today.'
Blazer then left the room and joined Phil in the lobby. Over the next hour, everyone else from their group, human and Pokemon, joined them.
"Good morning, Phil. I see you are ready to get moving."
"More like Professor Pine woke me at four in the morning and I haven't been able to get back to sleep."
"Well, today we finally discover what lies at the destination the scrolls have been pointing to."
"How long will it take to get there?"
"We should arrive some time this afternoon, probably before fifteen-hundred hours."
"So, before three."
"Yes."
"Morning boys."
"Good morning, Rachael," Phil and Denny responded.
"Is it about time to go?"
"Yes, as you and Denny eat."
After everyone ate, the group headed out. They left Forental behind, and began following the map hidden in the scrolls to the secret location. They were uncertain what would be there. Denny's first interpretation had said that more information laid there. However, his newest interpretation was that it was a cave with something inside so secret and valuable that it was not even described.
They traveled all day, the trio did not even stop for lunch, instead opting to eat on the move. So it came, that just after two, they arrived at the top of a sheer cliff.
"Denny, what does the map say about a cliff?" Phil inquired.
"The cave should be right here, perhaps it is in the face of the cliff."
"Phil, why do you not get Evie out to fly down and look for a cave."
"Sure, Evie come on out!"
'Hey, what is it?'
"We think the cave may be on the cliff, is there one?"
'I'll look.'
Evie swooped off the cliff and down, searching for an opening. The Aveon reappeared a few minutes later.
'I found it, but it is a difficult climb.'
"Denny, she found it, but it will be a difficult climb. Perhaps George and Bellezza can teleport everyone to the cave by following Evie's Aura signature."
"Maybe, let's ask them."
Rachael and Phil released their two Pokemon.
"Do you two think you can teleport to Evie's Aura signature with us?"
'We might could,' Bellezza responded, 'But it would be difficult. We could only take one person each time. Since we do not know certain things, like distance, teleporting will be more tiring. Then, doing it three times would make us drop. If me and George are going to stay energized enough to battle if need be, we will only be able to take two people.'
"That is a problem," Rachael responded.
"Not really, this cliff will be a piece of cake compared to the one I trained on. Also, I've always been good at climbing."
"So, George can teleport me, Bellezza can get Rachael, and you'll climb?"
"Yes, that's the plan."
"Okay, good luck," Rachael and Denny replied.
"Thanks, Evie, start flying. Hover outside the cave for a moment so that I can find it, then go inside."
The Aveon nodded and jumped off the cliff. Phil followed suit, and after dropping for a minute, he created a blade of Aura and jammed it into the cliff side.
"Denny, where did he learn that?"
"I do not know. Aura Blades are difficult to make, perhaps he simply believed he could do it, so he did. He is more stubborn than a Tauros after all."
"That is not very nice, Denny!"
"I am just stating the facts, also, it helps that his Aura is incredibly strong."
"Are you just saying that so that I do not push you off the cliff?"
"Maybe."
Rachael glared at Denny until the two Psychic type Pokemon teleported them down to the cave. The two waited for just a moment before Phil made his grand entrance, he slid down over the mouth of the cave and rolled in.
"Showoff," Racheal muttered.
"Come on, this looks like a big cave. It might take some time before we get to the end," Denny informed.
"Alright, Denny, Rachael, let's go!"
The trio carefully climbed through the cave, around stalagmites, under stalactites, over gorges, and many other obstacles. After a couple hours, only determined by Phil's watch, they started hearing things. According to protocol, everyone immediately started radio silence, communications would now be restricted to telepathy and hand signals.
'Denny, I'm going to scout ahead.'
'Roger that.'
Phil then turned and focused, making himself invisible. He soon came upon a group of people dressed in Team Domination uniforms, he counted three dozen, plus at least four Dark Users. They were looking over a large stone door, which was covered in blast marks. The large amounts of trash and bad smell indicated that they had been here for a long time. As he looked around he found the source of the odd sounds. A trainer, probably a girl based on body build and hair length, was hanging by her wrists from the ceiling. However, it was not rope or metal holding her up, but the web of an Arachnid Pokemon. Another strand was holding her legs in place so that she could not kick.
Both pieces of Arachnid silk were connected on the cave ceiling, in the jaws of a Galvantula. Phil was shaken for a moment, but managed to look past it to the Dark User interrogating the unfortunate trainer.
"So, girlie, tell me what you know of this cave."
The girl weakly shook her head, clearly sapped of energy already.
"Bad decision."
The Galvantula surged, and the female trainer screamed as electricity pulsed through the web and her body.
"How about a different question, is there anyone with you or that knows where you went?"
When the trainer did not respond, the man interrogating her formed a blade of black, corrupted Aura.
"How about this, tell me what I want to know, or a scar will mar that face of yours."
The trainer again failed to respond, the Dark User slapped her.
"Answer me when I speak!"
Phil had seen enough, he quietly slipped back to the others.
'Three dozen Team Domination members, and at least five Dark Users. They appear to be trying to blast through a large stone door, and the large amount of trash indicates that they have been here for a while.'
'Then let us take them! You and Denny could take that force with the element of surprise.'
Another scream pierced the air, although only Phil knew what it was.
'It is not that simple, Rachael. They have a hostage, a female trainer. She is restrained in the spider silk of a Galvantula. One of the Dark Users is electrocuting her, trying to break her for information.'
'Then we kill the Galvantula.'
'Easier said than done. It could surge in death, killing the prisoner. Our best bet it to sever the strands. However, that could be difficult,' Denny replied.
'There are only two strands. I could cut one with an Aura Blade, and Jes could bite the other one.'
'That could work. Phil, you and Jes are on hostage rescue. Free the prisoner and get her to safety before rejoining the battle. Rachael, you and the rest of Phil's Pokemon are up against the standard guards. I will take the Dark Users. This is a high stakes mission, they will try to kill you. Do not be afraid to return the favor.'
Rachael and Phil nodded in conformation, then they released their Pokemon and informed them of the plan.
The groups then moved into position. Rachael and most of the Pokemon surrounded the majority of the force from the shadows. Phil and Jes silently slipped right behind the prisoner. Denny and his four Pokemon gathered on the other side, waiting to attack the Dark Users.
'Now!' Phil mind shouted.
He quickly formed a blade of Aura and launched it, severing the top strand in the blink of an eye, even faster than Jes could snap the bottom one. Phil used his Aura to propel himself forward and catch the prisoner. At the same time, he used another Aura Blade to stab the Dark User between the eyes. The standard guards panicked, making Rachael's job much easier.
When Phil got his first glance at the hostage's face, he gasped.
"Georgia! What in Giratina's name are you doing down here?"
"I'm an archeologist, remember? I should be asking you that question."
"Where are your Pokemon?"
"They are in their Pokeballs, oblivious to what has happened. Over there, on that rock formations."
"Jes."
'On it!'
As he ran, Phil had to throw Georgia in the air so that he could stab someone who thought the guy running away would be the weak point.
"Phil, since when is tossing someone in the air easy?"
"Long story. Besides, you're fairly light."
"Okay, why could you summon a glowing blue blade from midair?"
"Again, long story."
Phil rounded a corner as Jes caught up with them. He stopped and laid Georgia down before releasing her six Pokemon.
"Jes, inform them of the situation, then get them to stand guard."
'Right!'
The young Aura Guardian then ran back around the corner, an Aura Blade forming in each hand. He quickly leapt into battle, jabbing around and dropping people and Pokemon left, right and center. He noticed a few guards trying to sidle away, they made it to the corner, and immediately came back out with Lady and a Krookodile on their tails.
Phil ran toward Denny, who was single-handedly battling four Dark User, who he noted were less capable than Rego Vastator. He jumped into the center, beheading two of the Dark Users, before taking on one of the remaining two in a one on one fight. The teen ducked under a metal blade before it could separate his head and body, then thrust both his blades into his opponent's gut. Phil then yanked up, dissecting his foe.
The final Dark User dropped to his knees, and held his hands up in surrender. Denny quickly grabbed some Aura infused handcuffs and slapped them on his prisoner. The two the looked to see about half a dozen guards kneeling with their hands on their heads surrounded by most of the Pokemon. Edward was near the front, clearly trying to be intimidating, but ultimately just being really cute.
They secured the prisoners, then opened a portal to the monastery. Two Aura Guardians hopped out, and started escorting prisoners back to stand trial.
"So, I guess Aura Guardians ain't extinct?"
Georgia was standing, aided by Old West, her Mudsdale.
"No, they aren't."
"I guess there is a reason too?"
"Ever read what happened to us in ancient times?"
"Yea, I also guess that is how you escaped those bandits?"
"Yup."
"Alright, your secret is safe with me."
"I know it is, do you actually know how to open this door?"
"No, I just came to investigate, and then those buffoons grabbed me."
"Alright, Denny, any ideas?"
"It seems to sealed with Aura. I see two weak points, the two of us need to utilize those to open the door."
Phil nodded, and positioned himself to open the door. When Denny gave the signal, he sent Aura energy into the weak point. After a moment, the teens felt a wave of energy surge over them.
"What was that?" Phil asked.
"An Aura seal. This was a very powerful one, but also old. They are sometimes used on young Aura Users raised by Aura Guardians to keep them from destroying their house and so."
"You'll have to train me to recognize them."
"Of course, now let's finish getting this door open."
"Right."
The two Aura Guardians then reached out, and slowly slid the heavy stone doors open. Once the door opened, the group piled through.
"Guys, look at this," Rachael pointed to a massive serpentine skeleton that measured about thirty-five feet long.
"Blazer, have you learned Sunny Day yet?"
'Yes, use it to light this place up?'
"Exactly."
Blazer formed a ball of fire in his mouth before spitting it out, lighting the whole cave. After the flash of light, everyone gasped. Dozens of skeletons dotted the room. Phil approached a large nest with several massive eggs. He closed his eyes, searching for signs of life. The Aura Guardian found it. A slight Aura signature was coming from the other end of the room.
Phil broke into a run, and found the signature coming from an egg. He quickly pulled out his incubator and carefully put the egg inside.
"Phil, what is that?" Rachael asked.
"An egg, I think it is the last thing alive in here."
"Besides us."
"Yea, that's what I meant."
"Are you going to care for it?"
"Of course."
Phil returned to the rest of the group.
"Phil, I think these are the skeletons of a Pokemon that was feared many years ago, not quite ancient, but possibly extinct," Georgia said.
"Not quite, I found an egg. It may be the last of it's kind. Unless others escaped and fled."
"What is the story?" Denny inquired.
"A few thousands years ago, during the Ronan Empire, there was a massive serpentine monster. It was said that it could level fortified structures with a single swipe of its tail, and what remained would be burnt, frozen, of struck with thunder from the beast's mouth and tail. The legends say that even at the closest of ranges the bolts from ballista, which were essentially very massive and powerful crossbows, just bounced off its glimmering skin. Occasionally, they would ally themselves with Aura Guardians. Then, the Ronans found its weakness. A blue and black magical creature that could fire blue spheres that drove the beasts back. Many, perhaps all of them, were eventually sealed away," Georgia told.
"If has been thousands of years, how is this egg left?" Phil asked.
"Phil, you were focused on the egg and did not notice, but the carcass next to it was much fresher than the others. Perhaps this Pokemon could live for a long time, and they managed to survive in here for a few generations before they all died out. Except for the one egg you now possess," Rachael replied.
"Then I must protect it with my life. Team Domination clearly wanted this power, perhaps, one day, they will get it. Just not like they wanted. In the mean time, we should figure out what type it may be."
"We should, but come. It is probably getting late. I would prefer to camp under the stars tonight," Denny interrupted.
"As would I," Georgia agreed.
In agreement that the stars made for a better roof than the cave's dark ceiling, the group returned to the surface. Ready to rest and sleep. Phil, always the night Hoothoot, took first watch, Denny would have second, and Rachael would have the third.
A/N What do you think of this monstrous Pokemon? What could it be? What type(s) do you think it is? Again, Georgia is one of PurehearttheNeko's OCs.
