Chapter 22|Bri

Damn it. The fireworks are starting and I have nothing to block out the noise thanks to Malici. I quickly run toward the pond and sit beside the water bank, hugging my long tanned legs to my chest awaiting the terrifying noises. And so it beings.

(Alex's POV)
I look everywhere for Bri but can't find her anywhere. If she's not here there is only one other place she could be. The pond. "Bri?" I shout into the darkness. "Bri! Br- Bri?" I whisper her name as I see a huddled mess of blue cotton, black leather, and purple hair. I sit down beside her and slowly lift her off her side to lean on mine and rub her back as she whimpers and flinches at the fireworks go off. "Hey, it's ok. It's ok. Just fireworks," It amazes me how the tough and smart girl I know broke down like this with a couple fireworks. "I-I know i-it's weak. Th-that I b-break d-down l-like th-this," she sniffles, not looking up. "No. No it's not. Hell, when I was little I cried when my dad ate my cookie!" I say, resting my head on her's. She giggles a little and jumps as another firework goes off. Oh no. The finale is about start. She shuts her eyes so tight they might never open again and digs her head into my chest. I hold her close until it ends.

(Bri's POV)
The fireworks finally end and I realize what I'm doing. I quickly jump away and hug my legs again. "S-sorry, A-Alex," I stutter and sniff.

(Alex's POV)
She said my name. Like she actually said it. My name came out of her mouth. "B-Bri, you don't have to be sorry," I say quietly. Why am I stammering? (Sound familiar Miraculers? Heh heh heh) I start to blush as she speaks, "W-well I... should get to bed..." she stands up and looks a little sad. "No wait," I say as I grab her wrist and pull her down to sit by me. "Please stay, Bri. You're my Bat, remember? And I gotta protect my Bat," I whisper and blush and she does too. I hug her close to me and kiss her fore head. "I love my Bat," I whisper. "I-I love you too, Alex," She whispers so quietly I can barely hear her. But I do and the only people in the whole world right now are me and her. "Why... why did you freak out when the fireworks went off?" I ask timidly. "Oh... uh... Remember when I said my dad served?" I nod. "Well I was littler of course but those loud bangs they just... I was so confused why daddy wasn't eating dinner with us... and so scared that he might not ever again..." her multi colored eyes glitter with tears at the memories. "It's ok. He's here now. And so am I, and I won't let anything happen to you Bri," I say and she giggles. "I just realized you don't know my name." "What?!" I shout and she starts laughing. "What is it?!" She can't reply so she just shakes her head and keeps laughing. "Seriously!" And it continues into the night until we fall asleep beside each other by the pond for the third time.

I yawn myself awake and almost have a heart attack before I remember where I am and who I'm with. "You up, Bat?" I hear a murmur from my side. "Yahuh. Mornin," I yawn again. "Mornin" "Brianna" I say sleepily. "Wha?" "My name. You asked," "Pretty name," he murmurs, still half asleep. "Came from a road sign. I think," I say, fully awake now. Alex starts laughing hysterically. "A road sign?!" He manages between laughs. "Har har har. And where did your parents get your name? Huh?" I ask and he stiffens. "Alexander. My dad's name. His dad's name and so on and so forth." Now it's my turn to laugh. "Alexander? At least the dudes in my family have a normal name!" "Yea? Like what?" "Robert. Like, Don, Bobby, it's all the same. Not Alexander!" I start giggling again and Alex looks at me admiringly and I giggle even more. He blushes and looks away. "Come now Alexander, we mustn't be late," I say in a British accent which I believe I have mastered, and help him up. "That we shall Brianna," he holds out his elbow which I loop in mine and we laugh and walk to our respective cabins to get new clothes on. I pull on a gray short sleeve and my leather jacket that cuffs above my elbows and denim shorts. I flop onto a reading chair and lace my purple and black combat boots and head outside to get my tackle box. Trout fishing, my last event. I head up to the dock not feeling like breakfast and bait my hook. I cast and hear someone behind me. "What do ya want?" I grunt not even bothering to turn around. "That's no way to greet your cousins," a girl says to me and a smile creeps across my face and I turn around. Two of my favorite cousins greet me with smiles and a hug. "Kaylee! Balin!" I grin. Balin is 14 and is a Philippian boy and moved to Florida a couple years ago and I only see him on holidays. Kaylee is 15 and is one of my closest friends especially since she's my uncle's niece we see each other a lot and went to a boot camp with her 19 year old sister, Asialynn "Hey Bri," Balin waves awkwardly. "Woah so much black!" He stares at my jacket. "And since when did you wear leather?" I laugh and say, "Heh just felt like it. Hey what's up with the mohawk thing?" I ask and he shrugs. "Hey I got some extra poles, wanna fish?" I ask them and help Kaylee bait and cast her hook seeing as she hasn't been fishing before. "So what are you guys doing here?" I ask after a few minutes. "Well I called Uncle Bubba and Balin and we thought since you're so unsocial we would come hangout with you," Kaylee grins. "Plus I got bored back home. Dad don't let me have any fun," Balin rolls his eyes. "I see your fancy uniform school forgot grammar," I laugh. We sit there and talk for a while and people start to show up. "Oh girls these are my cousins, Balin and Kaylee. Guys this is Sadie, Silver, and, Brooklyn," I guesture to each of them in turn. "Now if you don't mind I gotta catch our dinner," I laugh and head over to my pole I propped up against the railing. My competition doesn't seem to be too experienced, they are poking their fingers with the hooks, tying the fisherman's knot wrong, and even casting wrong. I giggle and jerk on my rod after feeling something pull on it. I reel it in and pull a good 14-15 inch rainbow trout onto the deck and take the hook out of it's mouth. "Ooh nice one. Brianna catches the first fish," Brenda whistles. "Hey I'm supposed to catch the first one!" Balin teases. I pull my third trout onto the deck and look at the others who have one to no fish. Heh heh. "And Brianna wins!" Brenda cheers. "Hey why don't we all go get ice cream before they announce who won?" Brook asks. "Sweet! I'MPAYING!!" Sadie shouts and takes off toward the ice cream parlor. "HEY!!! WAIT UP!!" I shout but she doesn't stop.

Hey wazzup?!
