Chapter Two | owT retpahC

"That's what you wanted to hear, wasn't it? Yea, guessed it. I wouldn't give back my life for anything in the world. Even if I could go back in time and change things."

"Yes it was. DiDi, we have to be professional here. Do you or do you not want to save yourself? We are required to talk about this for another," She pauses to glance down at her wrist watch. "forty-five minutes. So if you would like to get this done early then I would rather prefer you to not to joke around so then we can get on to the next thing."

"I have a question."

"Go right on ahead," She gestures forward with her hand.

"Can I use the bathroom?" Hannah lets out a long, exasperated sigh.

"Is that all you wanted to ask?" Hannah growls.

"Nah, I was just messing with you," I said, while I look around the room. It was plain, not fancy at all, not like I imaged it. All white furniture, including the white fuzzy rug under my feet. The hardwood floor however is not white, it is more of a light brown-ish grey. The only furniture adorning the room is a single white, large, leather chair, glass desk and two filing cabinets behind the desk. Large glass doors stand behind me and to my left is a waterfall wall, blocked off by a slab of glass.

"How about we get back on track. I am required, by rule, that I have to ask you these three more questions; and you are required to answer them the best you can. Got it?"

"Yes," I breath, resting my head on the back of the chair.

"How are you feeling?"

"Fine-I feel fine. There's nothing wrong with me, I feel fine."

"Where do you think you are at the moment?" She questions.

"Who wrote these questions?"

"Why are you here?"

"Most likely like you, I'm dead. Why else would I be here?"

Hannah exhales and smiles at me. "Wasn't that hard was it? See we are now forty minutes ahead schedule. I'm going to call Lile and have her escort you to your room," Hannah explains. "You need your sleep."

"I... sleep. I'm not alive, how does that work?"

"Well, um," She clicks her tongue. "I'm not quite sure on it either-"

She pauses to look at the door behind me. I sit up and twist my body to look at the glass doors. A young-ish looking woman with blonde hair steps through the door. A black pencil skirt hugs her small frame and wears a white blouse covered by a tight black blazer.

"Hello, Dianne. Hello, Hannah," Lile gives a polite nod of the head to Hannah.

"Oh hello, Lile. Now DiDi, if you would please, follow Lile and I will see you tomorrow," She gives me a smile before disappearing into thin air.

Where did she go?

"Uh... where did...did she go?"

"That doesn't matter. Please follow me," she orders. Lile turns on her heel, exiting the room.

I quickly jump out of the chair, speed walking to catch up to Lile's fast pace. How can a woman in a skirt walk so fast?

As we speed walk through the building, taking turns at random times, I search for anything interesting. Nothing seems to be colorful, everything is grey and white. Absolutely no art nor decorations can be seen. Not one painting is hung on the blank walls.

She comes to an abrupt stop, as I crash into her back. I stumble back a bit as she takes out a card from the pocket of the black blazer. Lile slides the card through a notepad on the wall. A door slides open as she starts her fast pace again. I follow close behind trying to scan my surroundings. The door led into a extremely large hallway, the roof was rounded almost as if a tunnel. The walls although they're different from the others; they are windows. The windows present the tops of puffy clouds with an ombré of purple, pink and blue.

"So uh... are we like... in the sky?"

"No, this is just so then everyone will feel not so," she pauses to think of the right word. "suffocated."

"Then these are just paintings or something?"

"Nope," she snaps her fingers. The windows change scenery, what was clouds is now a gloomy, overgrown forest. "These are screens built in, I can't tell you our location quite yet. But I promise you that will be coming soon," She turns around while still walking, giving me a closed mouth smile. "Down this hall is all of the rooms. Everyone is assigned one even if they do not use it."

I was just about to open my mouth to ask something when she interrupts me. "And if you are wondering why the rooms are so far apart from the facility, is because when this building was first made we did not need the rooms. So it is an add-on. The people that created this place thought it would be fun to make it far away, just in case we wanted another building between the two... What a pain in our butts."

"So I have my own room?"

"Well technically. I will explain everything tomorrow, I can tell you are a curious little one," she turns back around just as we are about to another door.

She goes through the same routine with the key-card and the notepad. The door opens, greeting us with a bright metal elevator.

All of those doors for an elevator.

Lile steps in and I follow. Instead of facing the doors we just entered from, she faces the wall behind me. Confused, I turn around, awkwardly looking back at her. The elevator starts moving while awkward, tacky elevator music starts playing- creating even worst silence.

Awkward silence had always been my worst nightmare. Not knowing what to say, the feeling that someone is mad at you. Most of the time I just laugh or announce "Awkward!" just to break the inevitable silence.

"So uhh what is your-"

"No," her voice as cold as ice.

"God fine, just trying to make conversation," I mumble to myself.

People these days.
