CHAPTER 06 | THE ASSASSIN'S GIFT

##########################

(y/n)'s P.O.V

"Hey." A voice said as I felt someone poked me in my cheeks, several times.

"Wake up, sleepy head." He repeated.

"Rghfm...Shut up..." I groaned as I narrow my eyebrows. I felt my hand hit something, someone--I don't know-- as I moved my hand.

"..." The voice remained silent as I again half-asleep moved my elbow.

Then I felt a pair of soft lips on my forehead.

My eyes immediately opened, and averted my gaze.

It seemed that I fell asleep on the bullet train, and my head was resting on Killua's shoulders.

He felt my movement, and looked at me as well. "Oh, you're awake," He said as he stared at me intently, gazing straight at me.

Was he the one who...

I kept staring at him, and so did he.

"What?" He asked.

Maybe not. Maybe it's just a dream.

"..." As I looked at him intently, my nose accidentally sniffed his scent, and it smelled... Like blood.

"Ha! You blinked!" I sat straight and gave him a victorious grin.

"..." He tilted his head at me, still confused. "...Ah!" He exclaimed. "That was unfair! I wasn't ready!" His eyes widen and reacted like a child.

"Ha! It wasn't! It was a fair fight. We had an agreement."

"Tsk." He scoffed as he looked away; with his face slowly turning adorable--I mean, pink. "Fine. You win." He groaned as I cheered.

When we were 10 years old, we created a 'staring' contest. We made rules--mostly by me-- and then he proposed to me his one rule.

It's that, the game can start anytime, even without the opponents' permission. And the loser will get to treat and enslave by the winner. Of course, he got me every time. I just thought he was just looking at me intently--given a fact that he's elementally a pervert, so my money was mostly wasted in his Chocorobos.

"That's a win for me! 100-189!" I smiled at him, feeling so happy. Finally! I reached a hundred! 89 more wins to go.

"You're still far from my accomplishment," Killua proudly proclaimed.

"Still an improvement," I stuck out a tongue on him, and sat straight with my arms crossed.

"If I were you, I wouldn't dare to stare again," Killua stated.

"Why is that? You scared that I might catch up on you?" I raised an eyebrow and grinned mischievously.

"No, not even a little."

"Tsk." I pout and frown. "Then what is it?"

"If you stared at me keenly like that again, I might just steal a kiss from you." He responded.

My heart skipped a beat at his words.

My eyes widened as I felt my face heat up. I-I-Is t-that true?! I cupped my face and hid it with my palm and fingers. Come to the think of it, the way he stared back at me earlier... It really feels that...that...

"I'm--"

"Ahh! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm never doing it again!" I yelped in nervousness. My heart is beating faster than it should. Damn it! I can't breathe!

"Relax!" Killua exclaimed, as I slowly separated my fingers, making my eyes see. His face was flustered as well, and yeah, he still look hot...

I-I-I mean, he still l-look cute...

"I'm just kiddin'! Jeez," He covered his red cheeks with the back of his hand. "Stop reacting like that..." He murmured as he hid his face entirely with both of his hands. Killua exhaled deeply, and removed his hand from his pale, red-ish face. Ah, he's still cute...wait, what am I saying?

"S-shut up, baka. I'll stop reacting like this if you'll stop saying sweet things like that." I replied. Wait. No. Wrong words!!--

"Sweet things?" He replied. Ahh! The pervert will probably get things different again!

"I-I said s-stupid things, b-baaka. You're getting d-deaf, Killua-sama." I lied. Th-that was close!

"Oh really?" He leaned towards, and fixed his gaze at me.

"Yes, really," I replied in a sarcastic tone.

"..." He's still looking. Argh. He's getting at the edge of my nerves! Why his face is near me again?! Why?!

"W-what?? So--"

"You blinked." He said in a deep voice as he still stared.

"Ha? Eh?" It took seconds for me to let his words sink in to me. "Oh..." I only then realized what he meant.

"Darn it... That's 100-190." I exhaled as I felt that he's still staring at me. And he's still leaning a little at me.

I'm sitting straight, unable to move. My body got stiff. I can't move. Gah.

"..." He stared. Ha! He's challenging me!

I stared as well, controlling my eyes not to blink.

We stared at each other, with both our eyes now relaxed. What is this feeling? I can't breathe again...

"..." I can hear his breathing loudly, deep as it goes.

Is it just me, or his face is getting closer and closer to me?

"..."

Yup, yes it is.

What am I going to do?! If what he said earlier is true...maybe he will... But if I blink, I will be defeated again.

....
...
..

Tsk. Fine.

"There! I blinked! I lose! Hehe. Oops!" I nervously chuckled as I scratched my head. I pushed his face away with my palm, letting him sit straight.

"...Sorry." Killua said as he covered again his eyes, exhaling deeply in a different direction.

Sorry? For what?

"Um..." I hummed as I played with my black hair. "I guess that's 100-191."

"Yeah." He replied, as the train stopped and woman in the speaker spoke.

"Come on, we're getting off." Killua said as he stood up, and took my things from above.

"O-okay." I stood up as well and I held his bag, while he got mine. "I'll take that," He suggested as he reached out the handle on the thing that I'm holding.

"No, it's fine. I'll carr--"

He caught me off guard, and took the heavy bag--that's full of his clothes-- from my very hands. I sigh deeply and scratched my nape. Well, if he insists so.

He silently walked towards the trains' door, and I followed him voiceless as well.

We climbed down together with other passengers, and afterwards, the train continued to run.

* * * *

We went to a hotel to rent a room first, as he suggested earlier. And for goodness' sake, he brought money. I thought we're going to beg for money, not for long. Good thing that he's a rich gal.

After we unpacked our few things and clothing, I asked him what his plan was. I honestly don't know what's running in his mind.

"Well, since we're in the city," He started as I lay down on the bed, and suddenly took off his shirt all of the sudden. "We'll try some things that will be first for you." He finished as he threw his shirt on the corner of the room, leaving him shirtless. Damn it! Why does he like being topless then and now? And in front of me?! Of a girl?!

"F-first time? W-what kind k-kind of first time?" I stated as I covered my face and looked away. I don't know why I'm acting like this. I've seen him shirtless many times before, ever since we were children...but it seems that, it's getting a little bit awkward for me now.

"Hm?" Killua said as I felt him sat on the same bed I'm on. "Well, you haven't seen a mall yet, right?" He replied.

"Mall?" I took off my hands and looked at Killua. Finally, he's wearing a cute polo-shirt.

"Wait. You don't know what a mall is?" Killua restated as I raised an eyebrow. I shook my head in reply.

"Woah," Killua snickers. "I didn't know you were that stupid." He straight-forwardly replied. I clenched my fist, and exhaled deeply.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know things because was trapped in your freaking damn house for the past 12 years!" I yelled in frustration, sarcastically. Argh. How can he be so insensitive?

"Oh, right." He replied emotionless. "Well, most girls hang out there... so... maybe you'll like it there." The assassin looked the ceiling, and alternatively gazed back at me.

"Really?" I murmured. "Mall... Mall... Mall..." I repeatedly pronounced the word, recalling something. I'm pretty sure I heard this somewhere...

"What's wrong?" Killua asked. "Nothing. It's just that I think someone told me about this 'mall'..." I replied.

"Ah!" I exclaimed, finally remembering. "It was Yona! I recall her telling me that she wants to explore it with me. I just nodded at everything she says 'cause I don't know what the hell mall is back then."

"So...?" Killua raised an eyebrow, showing a small smirk.

"Let's try going there," I grinned as I stood up.

"Yes!" Killua whispered a word, which I didn't hear. Well, I don't actually care. I'm just excited to see this 'mall', since I've haven't been into one, and Yona's all head-over-heels about this place.

* * * *

"Woah!" My eyes widened as we enter the air-conditioned building. It's so big! There are also tons of people, hundreds of stores that people were swarming in it. "Is this place always crowded?"

"Yeah. So where do you wanna go first--"

"Ah! Is that a bookstore?!" My red eyes gleamed in excitement, as I grabbed Killua's wrist and pulled him with me. I think I saw a sketchbook!

I ran dragging Killua with me towards the store, and entered with enthusiasm. I walked around, exploring the store. My eyes searched for a sketchbook and drawing materials.

And I finally spotted one.

"OHMYPUDDING," I grabbed hold one, and looked at it with amazement. I missed this... It's been years. I wonder if I can still draw.

"You want that?" Killua's voice came from behind, asking.

"Absolutely!" I instantly replied, but covered my mouth afterwards. "I-I mean, I want to, but I forgot to bring my money." I pouted as I looked down at the sketchbook.

"I'll buy it for you. Pick anything you want, I'll pay for it," Killua also took a sketchpad as he stated his words.

"Killua..." I breathe out his name, slightly pronouncing it.

"So you draw, huh?" He smiled balmy, grinning happily.

"Y-yeah! You didn't know?"

"Yeah. Draw me after you buy that, okay?" He smiled sweetly, with a tint of pink appearing on his cheeks, making him so damn adorable.

"S-sure! Although I'm not sure if I can still draw properly..."

"Totally fine with me." Killua turned his back, walking to a distance. "Hurry, I'm hungry."

"O-okay!" I selected and grabbed a few pencils, erasers, a sharpener, and a pencil case. Holding of it, I ran towards Killua, who was waiting near the cashier, lining up already.

"That's all?" Killua curiously asked.

"Yup. I don't need that much." I looked at the materials on my arms, smirking widely. I'm excited!

When it's our turn, the lady computed the price with the cashier on her left. "That would be... 167 jenny in total, sir."

Killua inserted his hand on his pocket, reaching for his wallet. "Here." He opened his wallet, and handed over the lady the cash.

I wonder what's gotten into him. He's so nice today.

"Thank you for purchasing. Come back again!" The woman cheekily beamed a smile, waving at us as we walk away. I waved back, returning a grin too.

"So, where do you wanna go next?" The boy asked.

"I don't know. You decide." I replied as we walk through the opened floor of the mall, wandering around.

"Well, I'm hungry so, let's eat--"

"Woah." Killua was interrupted as I unexpectedly kneel near the store's glass window, displaying elegant necklaces and earrings as a pair. Wow... I've never seen such accessories this delicate and luxurious. And there's this one pair that caught my eye. The marvelous diamond necklace with corresponding earrings, which was brilliantly accommodated with deep blue sapphire.

"What is it?" Killua walked and stood near me as he asked.

"N-nothing," I looked away standing up, waving my hand slightly, and declining. He stared intently, narrowing his eyes at me. Ah! Is he challenging me again?

"I won't lose again," I stared back as the white-haired assassin raised an eyebrow. "Huh? No, wait. I'm not in the mood to play that game," He explained, as a smug smirk appeared on his lips. "You lost twice. It means you'll be my slave for a whole day."

"Killua, I'm already your butler, what more do you want?"

"Oh. I forgot."

"Well, as for me," I smirk, giggling a small evil laugh. "You lost once earlier! Ha ha ha ha ha," I let out a wicked chuckle out of my mouth, simpering.

"I know," Killua defended as he scratched the back of his head, looking away.

"Oh. Maybe that's why you treated me and paid for this," I held out the things we recently bought. "Actually, it's fine with me if you didn't. But you insisted, so... thanks." I let out a serene smile, as I showed my gratitude and appreciation.

"It's n-nothing..." Killua responded as his face slowly turns to pink. "And it's not about that loss why I am treating you, (y/n)."

"Eh? Really? If not, then what is it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow, puzzled.

He smiled sweetly at me, and messing up my hair. "It's a secret."

My face seems to be warming up, as he leaned to my face. He grinned, and continued walking.

"F-f-fine," I murmured as I follow him from behind. I wonder...

...what is his reason could be?

* * * *

"What are we doing here, Killua?" I tilted my head, as he headed to a clothes store.

"You need new clothes. I'm getting tired of your old, butler clothes," the white-haired boy assassin replied without even looking back at me.

"New clothes? For what?" I stood firmly, crossing my arms. Hm.

"Just follow me." He suddenly grabbed my wrist, and we entered the shop. As we did, colorful bright lights greeted us, and layers of clothes and dresses were hanged in every corner of the room. People shopping as well, laughing and smiling. The fragrance of sweet, flower smell lingered around and across.

"They have beautiful dresses, right?" The boy asked.

"Yeah." I replied.

"Then go ahead and try one." He smirked as my gaze averted to his face.

"What? A dress?"

"Yeah. Is there a problem?"

"Yes there is! And there's no way you'll make me wear those girly dresses!" I turned my back, and tried to walk away, forgetting that he was still holding my hand.

"You're not going anywhere." He pulled me, and carried me in a bridal style. What the hell is he doing?! We're in a public place!

"Good morning sir..." The sales woman were about to greet us cheerfully, but then she saw Killua carry me. She blushed and whispered something to her fellow sales woman. What the!

"Excuse me, but where is the dressing room?" He asked as I hid my face in his chest in embarrassment. Oh pudding. Someone help me.

"Uh, r-right t-there s-sir," She replied, stuttering at her own words.

"Okay. Thanks," Killua simply replied as I felt him walking. I can't show my face to anyone else no more.

The assassin let my feet meet the ground, and opened my eyes as he did. "You're going to change here. I'm gonna hand you sample dresses and once you're done, come out." He said in a serious tone, in a so controlling voice as he scanned me from head to toe. My face warmed up, and turned my back.

"O-okay. G-g-got it." I nodded, and Killua exited he called the 'dressing room'. Pervert.

He made me try few dresses, and some of it's design were really stunning. Every dress I wear and try, he kept asking me if I find it beautiful. I question him why, but he told me again that it's a secret. Jeez. What's with this secret-thingy?

I did answer him honestly. I'm actually not into wearing skirts and this kind of outfit. But, after trying out and seeing different styles, I reconsidered my opinion, and there were some that really piqued my interest.

"Here. Try this one." Killua's arm reached inside, and hid behind the curtains, holding a striking dress. I took it, and with care, I wore the dress perfectly. It fits just right, like it's made for me specially. Weird.

I walked out the dressing room, and the assassin looked at me as his eyes enlarged. "Woah." He stood up, with his glance fixated at me. The dress was pale blue, sleeveless, knee-long and embodied by an astounding design.

"What's wrong? Does it look weird? 'Cause I feel we-"

"No, it's not. In fact, it suits you very well." With a tender smile, he took my hand, and twirled me around. My feet followed, and the skirt ballooned as I did. My face at once went red, and my heart beat raced fast. I'm getting tense and nervous. He's... he's really close to me. Very, very close.

"W-well, thank you." I take control again of my hand, and escape his hold on my hand. "Now what? Why did you make me try these clothes? What are these for-"

"Here. Take this, it's yours now." He gave me handful paper bags, and when I sneaked a quick look inside, it was all the clothing that I agreed with when he asked me the question I mentioned earlier.

"Eh? But-" Killua interrupted me by squeezing my nose between his two fingers. "Ow," I yelped, squirting my eyes.

"Shh. Just take it. I also included some jeans, few t-shirts and several blouses, which I believe you would like." He smiled faintly as he pinched both my cheeks, giggling vaguely as he did.

He snatched my hand, pulled me, and getting a little nearer the store's exit. "H-hey! Wait! What about this?" I reacted as I referred to the current dress I'm wearing.

"I already purchased it." He replied.

"B-but what a-about my clothes inside the dressing room??"

"Forget about that. Just be clothed in that outfit you're currently wearing." He kept on walking, and soon went out the store. Is he serious?! I'm gonna wear this the entire time up to now? Argh. If he wasn't my master, this wouldn't happen. Any of this will.

I exhaled as I accepted defeat in arguing with this assassin. But maybe he was right. I need to change some things too. New things. And to be frank, I really find wearing this dress kinda fun, given that it's new to me.

"Why, Killua?" I started, setting myself beside him. Yup, he's still holding my hand. Sigh.

"Hm? Why what?"

"Why are you doing this? All of this? What it is for?" I asked as I contracted my eyes, narrowing it.

"Just because." He said as Killua let go of my hand, and placed his on my head. "It's a secret." He pat my head, ruffled my hair, again.

"Hmp. Weirdo." I pouted, stuck my tongue out slightly, and realized that he did the same thing earlier.

"Pig."

"Pervert."

"Crazy old hag."

"Stupid silver-haired spoiled brat."

We began throwing insults at each other, which lead us to smiling oddly to one another, then laughed wildly. I then initiated a conversation-a question -and he responded normally. I mean, naturally. The way how he usually and typically replied at my statements and questions.

We talked continuously, and visited other stores on the way.

* * * *

"Thanks for the food." I clapped my hands; feeling satisfied for the delicious food Killua treated me. Since that moment, I've been feeling awkward in everything he did. I fell silent. I questioned him many time, and I tried and tried to make him spill the beans. (A/N: it's a metaphor okay) He still won't. He kept telling me that it's a secret.

But I can't let him do this, without me knowing the reason why! It's creeping me out, however, at the same time... it kinda made me happy. He even bought me a new clip. A blue one. I don't know how that 'thimajig' functions, since I was using only pony for my hair. I didn't liked it, but I asked Killua how did I look, and he said, "It looks perfect on you."... I kinda come to like it.

He even brought me new shoes! Of course, I loved it, but it was too expensive! I felt like that those shoes were made of gold and silver when Killua told me the price. I declined, thinking that it was a waste of money. But since I showed so much interest in it, my master insisted. Well, even if you looked at it in a different angle, it's my fault why he was persistent to convince me that it's alright--which in my opinion, was not. But, I do appreciate the effort he did, and in the end, I obtained the most expensive shoes I've ever had.

"Hey (y/n)." Killua snapped his fingers in front of me, waking me up from my deep thought.

"Oh, sorry." I replied as his eyes twitched.

"What's wrong? Are you alright?"

"Yeah. It's just that..." I replied in a weak voice, standing up slowly.

"What? You feel sick?" Killua got cautious and stood up, but I held out my palm, giving off a sign that I'm fine.

"I-I'm fine. I just need to go to the rest room." I reassured the boy, but with a debilitated tone.

He nodded as he sat back. I walked towards the rest room and entered it; with the uneasiness feeling spread through me. "I can't help to feel uncomfortable with the current situation." I whispered to myself as I cupped the water coming out of the faucet, and let my face feel the cold water.

"Damn, that felt nice," I stated as I again washed my face. I took my handkerchief in my pocket, and wiped the water excess from my face.

I went out the women's bathroom, and headed back to our table. As I sat on my chair, a warm palm suddenly touched my forehead.

"Hm. You don't have a fever also," Killua said in a gentle, quiet voice as if he was only talking to himself.

"I'm alright," I deeply exhaled as I clutched his hand in mine. "Thanks for the concern, Killua."

"Hm." He slowly took his hand away from mine, as the look at his eyes stared at me.

"Wh-what is i-it??" An impulse was felt within me, and I nervously replied.

"Yep. It will look good on you." He smiled softly, and reached for his bag, where we most placed the things he bought for me. Yes, for me.

"Eh? What will..." Before I could finish my sentence, the assassin stood up, and walked towards my back. Then, he placed something that wrapped around my neck, and heard it locked.

After that, he grabbed my hand, and handed me something in a shape of a box.

"Killua...?" I looked at him, then on what he did, and I noticed the shining, radiant diamond necklace on my chest and neck. I opened the box, and a deep blue, luminous sapphire was revealed. These were the ones I saw at the store that caught my attention.

As I gaze upon these items, I felt my vision blurred, and cold tears trickled down on my cheeks. I can feel an ache near my chest. It was happiness.

Killua smiled as he pulled a chair beside me and sat. As tears continued to fall down, one after another, I stared at the earrings, crying water droplets of joy.

"Happy Birthday, (y/n)."
