You fling the wine bottle with all your might—

—and your heart drops in horror as he catches it easily in his right hand. The knife dangles casually from his left.

"High school football," he says with a nonchalant smile. He hefts the wine bottle and flips it in the air, catching it by the neck. "Some things you never forget. Looks like you're outgunned, darlin'."

You take several steps back from him, trying to gauge your chances of slipping around him and running, but there simply isn't enough space. You've been fenced in between the concrete wall and a cabinet. Wes stands between you and escape.

He raises the wine bottle and gives it an easy swing. Pain explodes across your face before you realize fully what has happened. When you open your eyes, you're on your knees, and there are cherry-bright drops of blood dotted across the filthy concrete floor. Your cheek feels as if it has been split open, and you taste blood in your mouth.

You start to roll onto your back to see where Wes is, to raise your hands to defend yourself, but before you can, he seizes you by the hair and wrenches your head back.

"No—" you gasp.

His breath brushes your cheek when he whispers, "It's been fun."

With one violent jerk, he slides the knife across your throat. The few drops of blood you noticed are joined by a violent spray.

The last thing you hear before death claims you is the panicked, desperate sound of your own choking sobs.
