Is he kidding? He can't really expect you to pick up this lame column when you are focused on the news story of the century. People are scared, and scared people are eager for information, and people who are eager for information buy newspapers. It's basic business, or math, or something!
"No way! I can't believe you're asking me to do Ivy's column. Why is she still employed here, anyway?" you demand.
Don gives you an uncomfortable frown. "Listen, we're all part of a team," Don says.
"Yeah, well, Ivy should remember that next time she decides to flake on a commitment. If this column is so important to the paper, you'd think she'd take it seriously."
"Kendall, I'm not joking. I've got to pull this paper together and I'm on a tight timeline, and Ivy hasn't been answering her phone. If we don't get this story written today, we're going to miss the deadline and the hard-working people of Dansville will miss their favorite feature."
"I'm not joking either! I have stories of my own to work on!"
Don's cheeks turn pink, and beads of sweat appear at his hairline. That's how you know he's getting mad.
"I'll ask you one more time. Do. The column."
Fine! You'll take the damn job. This isn't worth getting into hot water with your boss over. [[Go to Chapter 2.]]
No way. You are NOT the type of person to pick up someone else's slack. This is Ivy's mess. Let her clean it up. [[Go to Chapter 4.]]
