Wes walks you out to your car. He stops near your front driver's side headlight, watching as you load your messenger bag into the back seat.

"You be careful out on them roads, now," he says.

Raising your head, you meet his gaze. "I will." For some reason, it doesn't feel like a time to joke. You really do need to be careful. So does he. So does everyone.

"That Miss Himes was found not very far from here, you know."

With a frown, you pull up a mental map. You hadn't realized how close you were to the crime scene, but now that he's said this, you make the connection. She was found not far from Little Rock Lake. "Really?"

"Really. Still got the area cordoned off down on Snaketail Road."

"Snaketail Road?"

He gives you a suspicious look, as if he can see the gears turning in your mind. "Remember what they say about the cat, Kendall."

"I'm a journalist, Wes. Curiosity is my job. Besides, I'm working with the police department, anyway." You just haven't gotten a chance to scope out the crime scenes in person, although you know bigger news agencies have; serial killers are serious news, after all.

You've been meaning to ask about going out to the crime scene. If you could see the place yourself, maybe you might turn up something no one else has. "How do I get to Snaketail Road?" you ask, glancing past the edge of town toward the trees that loom in the distance.

He seems to hesitate. "Maybe I shouldn't have said nothin'. You aren't thinking of goin' out there on your own, are you?"

You decide to wheedle him for information. You really want to see the crime scene; it will help you with your article on Ms. Haynes. [[Go to Chapter 27.]]

It's fine. If you decide to go to the crime scene later, you can get details from the police and maybe head out there with one of the officers. "Of course not, Wes," you say before climbing into your car. "See you around." [[Go to Chapter 52.]]
