Chapter 5 Duty and Discovery
Aura's narration
If you've managed to get everything pieced together by this point, you must have seen more than anyone in their life.
If you still haven't linked it all together, the truth is about to show itself.
One day, something changed the valley forever.
Something that nearly destroyed everyone and everything.
While the Forbidden Valley tries to stay isolated, we were aware somewhat of what was going on outside the world.
We knew about the long war that was going on between some robotic dictator and a speedy hero.
We knew about the God of destruction, Chaos, being let lose on the world, until he was defeated.
And we certainly knew about the world being split apart recently.
This was because of scouts we send to explore the world for a whole year.
They only come back for holidays before exploring again.
Ki did this to make sure we never face a threat of an invading enemy.
We didn't have the tech that the outside world had, so an invasion meant destruction for us all.
A mad scientist with a robot army would be something that could catch us off guard if not warned ahead of time.
One of our scouting groups came back...
....or what was left of it.
Only one scout had returned, completely terrified of what he saw.
And the news he had...
....scared everyone too.

Normal POV
Kaiju Monastery
Infirmary
A young man was sitting on the bed, showing clear signs of paranoia.
Shivering, constant eye movement and a tight grip on the bedside said it all.
Ki was sitting in a chair, calm as ever.
The elder asks. "What did you encounter? If this is something urgent, I need to know so we can prepare for it."
The scout replied nervously. "A f-f-factory....t-t-tons of n-n-ninja....all bearing the m-mark of...."
Ki gave him a cup of tea to calm him. "Calm yourself. You are safe here. Just tell me the mark, then you will rest."
The scout breathes in and out. "The mark...it was....a claw or scar of some kind. My father told me about it before....but this version of it was different. It had one of our characters in it..."
Ki looked concerned. "What did it translate to?"
The scout looked up at Ki with visible fear.
He whispers. "Hakai..."
(Translation: Destroy)
Ki's face took that of surprise before he took a serious glance outside the room.
Ki whispers to himself. "It has begun."

Normal POV
Council Chamber at Field Village
There were four people in the room.
Ki himself was in the center of the room, enjoying a cup of tea during the meeting.
Sitting at a green table was the Field Village elder.
Sitting at the blue table was the River Village elder.
And sitting at the brown table was the Mountain Village elder.
The village elders felt uneasy about the news Ki had brought them.
The Field Village elder broke the silence. "This certainly is a disturbing revelation, but are you sure of the scout's accuracy?"
Ki nods. "Yes. The mark on the ninjas was practically burned into his memory."
The Mountain Village elder asked. "Just the ninjas? No signs of who is leading them?"
Ki shook his head. "No. Our scouts were outside the factory when the ninjas spotted them. They never managed to get inside to see their leader."
The Field Village elder sighed. "Are you certain that the character sai-"
Ki interrupted. "Did I not tell you that he remembers every detail on the symbol? Whether we like it or not.......the Fallen have returned."
The River Village elder responded with doubt. "Impossible! Orion killed Lord Rai! They should not be around anymore!"
Ki strokes his beard. "That is true, but we did not defeat the rest of the Fallen. We let them hide again like last time, never to return to society and culture. This does not mean that they died out."
The Field Village elder asked. "What should we do? Our villages are not prepared to fight tons of Fallen with guns and artillery."
The River Village elder responded. "We should appeal for help from the United Federation and other countries. Their military could defeat the Fallen for us."
The Mountain Village elder objects. "No! If they learn about us, they will try to buy our land and trade from us. What will we have left if the outside world makes a market out of our lives? None! We must fight the threat on our own!"
The River Village elder shook his head. "The Fallen are too powerful for us to fight alone! They almost devastated our villages last time! What makes you think we can survive this time?"
The Mountain Village elder crossed his arms. "It is better that we die with honor, rather than die being the world's profit!"
The Field Village elder stood up. "I agree with the Mountain Village elder. We need to face the threat alone. But I also agree with the River Village elder. We need to end our isolation at some point in our time. We have stayed too weak and vulnerable to the rest of the world, and our new allies could increase that strength."
The room erupted into a chaotic argument as all three elders bickered back and forth.
Ki was in the middle of the chaos, drinking his tea.
When five minutes had passed, Ki stood up and hit the end of his walking stick on the floor.
All of the elders stopped talking after that.
Ki looked around at them. "We will deal with the debate on isolation later, but we must focus on the task at hand."
Ki then focused on the guards protecting the entrance. "I will send three of my best students to find this factory and destroy it. After that, the Fuji Clan will hunt down the Fallen everywhere on the face of Mobius."
Ki glanced back at the elders. "We are now at war with the Fallen again...and we will not make the same mistake again."

Normal POV (Two Days Later)
Kaiju Monastery
Top of Stairs
Ki was with Aura, Suzuki and Tanya, about to give them their next mission.
Suzuki asked. "Was the scout who came back ok? He looked pretty bad when I saw him."
Ki nods. "He is fine, but will stay under protection for now. I am sending you all on a mission involving what he found."
Tanya nods and asked. "What is the target we are looking for?"
Ki answered. "A factory that is supplying an enemy of ours."
Tanya asked another question. "Do you have the location?"
Ki shook his head. "No. The scout was too scared to remember the exact location. All I can give you is his route that he took when exploring."
Suzuki frowned. "Wait! So we are going out there into the world to find something we have no idea where it is? That will take forever!"
Ki walks closer to them. "If the scout was not in need of recovery, he would have followed you. But unfortunately, the enemy's ninjas did good work of him before he escaped. You must use your training to find the factory and destroy it, before the Fallen gain enough strength to escalate an all out war."
Aura bows. "Yes sensei."
The three run down the stairs as Ki watched them leave.
Ki sighed. "Let us hope that they stay in the light, or else the Fallen will try to consume them in darkness."

Normal POV
Outside the Forbidden Valley
Aura looked back at the three villages and monastery in the distance.
Tanya asked him. "Is there something wrong?"
Aura looked at her. "This is my first time outside the valley. I have never seen what the outside world is like."
Suzuki grins. "You'll love it. At least the nature part."
Aura looked at him. "You have been outside the valley before?"
Suzuki nods, but his face takes a serious change too, showing inner conflict. "Yeah. I lived some of my childhood on the streets of a city called Westopolis. Ki found me scavenging for food in a dumpster. I kind of grew up to hate the outside world ever since."
Aura frowned. "I am sorry that I brought your dark past back to your mind."
Suzuki gained some what of a smile. "It's ok, as long as I got you two, I'll be fine."
Aura felt that Suzuki was hiding something beneath that happy go lucky attitude, but chose to ignore it.
-------------------------------------------
Normal POV (3 days later)
Station Square
Aura couldn't believe the sight around him as he traveled across rooftops.
Giant buildings made of concrete, metal and glass were everywhere, making a jungle of materials around them.
The ground below was filled with people and strange rides using rubber wheels.
There were also some parks that preserved some trees and plant life, but they stuck out like a sore thumb among the rest of the city.
Tanya pats Aura's shoulder. "Stay focused. We need to find the contact the scout had here."
Aura nods and focused his sights on a street filled with stores and restaurants.
He spots a man wearing a business suit and had black hair tied up in a traditional bun like most eastern cultures.
Aura kept his eyes on him. "Found him. We just need to pull him into that alleyway to interrogate him."
Aura jumps down with Tanya as the man leaves a restaurant, landing not far from him.
Tanya swiftly grabs the man and pins him to a wall.
Before he could scream, Tanya covered his mouth.
Aura walks up to him. "One of our scouts asked for intelligence from you. Where did he say he was going after that?"
The man breathes out after having his mouth uncovered. "Not entirely sure, though there was a hint accidentally spilled. He said something about checking the savannas after this."
Tanya looked at Aura. "He must have gone to Mazuri to scout the tribes there."
Aura nods at this, but then hears something coming.
In a split second, he gets the man behind a dumpster and pushes Tanya out of the way.
A shuriken gets stuck in the wall where Tanya was.
Aura looked at where it came from.
A purple chameleon stares at them, another shuriken ready in his hand.
The chameleon speaks to them. "Who are you two? And why are you both confronting him?"
Aura and Tanya drop smoke bombs and escape up to the rooftops.
The chameleon chases after them, the smoke not being enough to keep him away.
Aura asks Tanya. "I saw several signs of ninjutsu experience on him. What clan is he from?"
Tanya shook her head. "I do not know, he had no characters on him."
Suzuki tried to ambush the chameleon from a high vantage point, but the chameleon dodged and threw a shuriken at him.
Suzuki barely dodged it and tried to lose him by jumping across the street to another set of rooftops.
Tanya slices a few AC units, trying to blind the chameleon.
The chameleon just slides under the sudden rush of air and continues pursuing them.
Aura looked behind him for a moment. "We can not shake him. He knows most of our tactics by now."
Suzuki groaned. "What did this guy have for breakfast?"
Tanya points ahead of them. "We can lose him if we get outside the city limits."
They nod and increase their pace as they started to run out of buildings.
The chameleon kept up with their pace, intent on catching them.
All three of the Fuji Clan members jumped off the rooftops and landed on different vehicles.
Tanya landed on the back of a pickup truck and stayed hidden from the driver.
Suzuki landed on sports car, but it was going slow behind the massive traffic.
Aura landed on the trailer and a large delivery truck.
The chameleon landed on the same ride as Aura.
Aura rolled out of the way of a few shurikens and gets up.
The chameleon tries to sweep him, but Aura jumps up and uses the velocity of the vehicles to kick him off.
When the chameleon recovers, he jumps from ride to ride until he gets onto the truck again.
Before Aura could strike, the chameleon turned invisible.
Aura looked around for a way to expose him, but there was none.
Aura gets hit in places like the gut, the face and the heel in rapid pace.
The blue wolf could only hit in random directions to guess where the chameleon is.
Aura felt a kick that caused him to tumble towards the back of the trailer.
He was now dangling off the ledge as he heard the chameleons footsteps approaching.
Aura listens carefully, trying to catch the exact position the chameleon was at.
With a well timed swing, he attacks the chameleon from the ledge, knocking him out of his camouflage ability.
Aura got him off the ride before he could recover with a roundhouse kick to the waist, sending the chameleon crashing into a car.
Aura uses the opportunity to jump car to car to reach the pickup truck Tanya was in.
Suzuki did the same, as all three used the truck as a hiding place until they were far enough away from the city.
All the chameleon could think as he got up from the wreck was a question. "Who was that ninja?"
--------------------------------------------
Normal POV (2 hours later)
Highway Rest Stop
The three sneak out of the vehicle and head for the nearby woods.
Suzuki breathes out a sigh of relief. "That was close! I thought that purple ninja almost captured us. Who knows if that was the enemy or not."
Tanya nods. "It was too close for my liking. Fortunately, Aura's training paid off in this scenario."
Aura just stayed focused on the woods ahead of them. "I was only doing what I could at the moment. No need to give me credit when you both put more effort than I could."
Suzuki smirked. "We're not buying that humble attitude. We both know you feel proud that you beat another ninja today."
Aura looked at Tanya. "Who was that ninja?"
Tanya replied while checking her weapon. "I do not know, but his moves tell me he is a rogue ninja."
Suzuki looked at her with confusion. "A rogue ninja? That's a first."
A voice speaks up. "I'm not a rogue ninja, I just came here because of a job."
Suzuki had no time to react as something invisible tripped him and knocked him out.
Tanya pulls out a katana as Aura got into a battle stance.
Tanya heard something and cut behind herself, but hit nothing but leaves.
Aura felt the enemy coming, but couldn't warn Tanya in time.
The invisible foe knocked her into a tree, causing it to fall down and knock her unconscious.
As this happened, Aura kicked dirt into the air.
Some of it landed on the chameleon!
Aura used the chance to jump foot first at the chameleon and knock him back.
The chameleon was forced to return to visibility again.
The two got rear to pounce each other again, their stares more focused than when on a needle.
The chameleon spoke to him. "Sore ga akka suru mae ni anata to anata no yujin ga kofuku suru no ga saizendesu"
(Translation: It is best for you and your friends to surrender before it gets worse.)
Aura stares at him. "Anata no besuto o misete kudasai"
(Translation: Show me your best.)
The two run at each other and hit each other into some trees.
The chameleon throws more shurikens at Aura, only for the wolf to block them with a tree branch.
Aura swings the branch, launching the shurikens back at the chameleon.
The chameleon dodged and dashed at Aura, who swings the branch at the chameleon's throwing arm.
The hit caused the chameleon's gloves to be damaged and his cuffs to be broken.
The chameleon retaliated by slashing Aura with his last shuriken.
Aura stumbled back and felt his wound before he was hit back into the stump of a tree.
The blue wolf felt vulnerable now.
Not because he was losing the fight, but because his teammates were going to be in danger.
The valley was going to be in danger now that the world might know.
Aura felt a spark inside him, a surge of power he never felt before.
His body glowed from head to toe in light, getting brighter and brighter.
The chameleon had to shield his eyes as he couldn't see much now.
Suzuki and Tanya woke up to see it too, only to cover their eyes like the enemy.
When the light faded, a taller figure stood where Aura was.
Before anyone could react, the figure pounced at the chameleon and gave a massive punch.
The chameleon was launched through several rows of trees, only ending until he was outside the woods.
The new Aura thought in his head. 'And do not come near my team ever.'
The lights mostly died down after that, but the new shape still remained.
Suzuki and Tanya had their mouths hanging open at the destructive sight before them.
Suzuki eventually spoke. "Sweet Chaos! Did Ki teach you this?!"
Aura turns around to ask what he means, but he could only let out grunts, growls and some barks.
Suzuki raised an eyebrow. "Uh...did you just lose the ability to speak?"
Aura tilted his head in confusion as he looked down at his hands.
He was shocked to find that his hands and feet were bare and had black fur.
He also had cream colored chest fur and a metal spike.
Tanya looked at Suzuki. "Ki needs to see this. Let's head back to the monastery."

Normal POV (one day later)
Forbidden Valley
Kaiju Monastery
Aura looked at himself in a mirror and was speechless at his new self.
He was some sort of blue jackal like creature that had the looks of a warrior.
There were black locks on the back of his head that moved some with his head.
His muzzle was extended out more and he had a black line going across his eyes.
His ears were taller as well, giving him some sort of regal look.
All that remains of himself is his ocean colored eyes.
Ki strokes his beard. "Interesting. This is the first time you have done this?"
Aura nods his head, still unable to speak.
Ki's voice could then be heard in his head. 'Can you hear me?'
Aura freaks out in his thoughts. 'Gah! How did you do that?!'
Ki answered back in his own voice. "Focus your mind on the person you want to talk to, and then talk inside your own mind."
Aura nods and focuses. 'Can you hear me Ki?'
Ki nods and smiles. "Loud and clear. Now I believe I know what you truly are."
Aura tilted his head. 'What is it?'
Ki answered. "You were born during the Northern Lights, which is said to carry many spirits."
Aura was still confused. 'Spirits? What does that have to do with me being born?'
Ki smiled at his question. "What if I told you I came from another multiverse? From another group of universes?"
Aura backs up a little. 'You mean you died and came back to life in our multiverse?'
Ki nods. "Yes. I remember being quite young for my age, considering what I was."
Aura was curious. 'What were you?'
Ki sat down on a seat. "Believe it or not, I was a dragon. One of the last of an endangered species."
Aura's face was that of shock. 'A dragon?!'
Ki chuckled. "I know, it certainly is hard to believe this old man was once flying and spitting fire, literally."
Aura couldn't believe all the information that was being thrown at himself.
Aura thinks hard. 'So this is what I was in a previous life?'
Ki nods. "Yes. Your case is rare, because I never managed to awaken my old form, even at a young age. You were given a gift Aura, a gift no one can have."
Aura looked at the mirror. 'But how do I change back?'
Ki answered. "Focus on yourself and the memories you had of your other form."
Aura did as told as a glow surrounded him, only disappearing once he was back to being his wolf self.
After he finished, something unusual happened.
He felt a sense of familiarity, as if something he knew, but his memories wouldn't answer it.
He knew Ki had more knowledge of what was going on than him, but there wasn't anything he could do at the moment.
Aura would just have to go with what he knew for now.
Thankfully, fate just gave him a new power to use against the Fallen.

If there are any questions, you can ask.
I apologize if the Japanese wasn't accurate.
I had to choose between copying and pasting the actual characters or typing the words in English type.
Characters can't be read by western audiences anyways.
And my options on text is limited.
I hope no one holds a grudge with this story so far.
I'll see you all in the next chapter!
