Part two ❄️ Ambush
The morning came without a sun, a thick overcast of grey clouds blocking out it's warming rays of light. Snow had fallen metres deep in some patches making it near impossible to navigate for the four Pokémon to make their way down the mountain. Ice had the most difficulty, being forced to navigate the snow on three legs as he held Minny close to him. She was buried in his fur for warmth since even on flat ground, she still had trouble walking more then a few feet by herself, the snow would be impossible for the youngling.
Meme was bouncing along on her tail, the rubbery ball unable to break the surface of the snow and unable to feel the cold through the think blubber. Her mother was having much more trouble as she waddled through the snow aside Ice. The grown ups planned on inviting anyone left in the village to join their trek but as Ice lived much higher upon the hill then most other Pokémon, they first needed to get to the village.
"How's she doing?" Bubble asked, looking at the bundle in Ice's arms.
"Asleep." He muttered back, thankful for that. The journey was quite treacherous and Ice knew as much as Bubble that had Minny been awake, she would squeal at every unknown shift in movement. The ice bear looked at the tiny form in his arms, smiling slightly at the peaceful look across his little ones features as she snuggled in close to his fur, lost within her own land of dreams.
Bubble nodded, watching as her child hopped around the desert of snow that covered the ground in thick sheets of pristine whiteness. "Don't go to far Meme." She called, carful to only be loud enough for her child to hear as she didn't want to wake Minny or start an avalanche.
Ice's ears twitched, a familiar feeling of being watched itched his skin as he stopped, his obsidian eyes surveying the surrounding area. "Call Meme back, something isn't right." He muttered to Bubble, his tone was not one to argue with and Bubble knew better then to question the older Beartic regardless.
"Meme, come here." Bubble called from Ice's side, frowning as her ears failed to pick up the sounds the more experienced Beartic had picked up.
The young Azuril pouted, not sensing the seriousness of the situation as the adults did. "But I don't wanna."
"Meme." Bubble called sharply before Ice charged forward, leaping over the Water Pokémon in time to counter an in coming Shadow Ball with an Icicle Crash. Minny woke with a start, blinking against the darkness as she called for Ice. The sudden lurches of the area around her sent waves of panic through her mind as she was unable to figure out what was going on.
Ice hushed the child gently as he handed her to Bubble, warning her to keep the youngling warm as her own child retreated behind her mother. The Freezing Pokémon stood before the trio of female Pokémon, snarling as he approached the direction from which the attack had come, ears twitching towards the sound of heavy breathing. He leapt backwards on his hind legs in time to dodge the Fire Fang of a Houndoom. Ice roared at the canine Pokémon as it attempted to round him to his friends, slamming him in the side with an Ice Punch, calling for Bubble to take the children and run while he fought off the wild Pokémon.
Giving a brief nod, the Azumarill ushered her own child to follow as she carried the trembling Minny in her arms. She wasn't sure whether her little friend was trembling from the fear or the cold, probably somewhere between the two as she was sure she wasn't keeping her nearly as warm as a Ice could.
The Aquarabbit glanced over her shoulder, seeing her child hopping along behind her as well as Ice struggling to overcome at least a dozen Houndoom which had surrounded him. The Fire/Dark Pokémon were pack Pokémon after all and although Ice was stronger then each single Pokémon, the canine Pokémon had the numbers and type advantage over him. Bubble was conflicted upon seeing this, knowing she had the children to look after but the type advantage over Houndoom that Ice lacked.
She met his eye for a brief moment, knowing she couldn't stay, she fled for the village. Bubble held on tightly to Minny whom struggled in her grasp, unsure what was going on around her. "Wh-what's g-g-go-ing on-n?" She squeaked, her ears curled up tightly against the cold. Tears gathered unwillingly in the eyes of the young Buneary whom could only fear her current surroundings.
"Shh Minny." Bubble said softly, cradling her friend close. "It's okay."
"I-- I w-w-wa-want I-ice." She mewled, pulling herself in a tight ball for warmth. "Wher-where's-s I-i-ice."
Bubble flinched slightly, glancing behind to assure her child was still bouncing along behind her as she rushed for the village, although more quiet then usual, Meme was still following her mother, an unsure look held within the baby Pokémon's eyes. "He's going to catch up, promise." She cooed, trying to reassure Minny that she was safe to prevent her from panicking more then necessary.
A nearby twig snapped, making Buubbke freeze as she was sure it was to far off to have been Meme or herself. "I wouldn't count on that." The old voice sent chills through Minny as she struggled in Bubble's arms. The Azumarill spun in slow circles in search of the Pokémon the voice belonged to, hugging Minny tighter to shield her from danger as well as pulling her own child closer.
"N-n-n-o, w-we n-n-eed t-to go! H-h-e's h-here!" Minny squeaked, barely audible through her fearful stutters, panicking at the voice. "H-he w-wants t-to pu-t m-m-me under-undergr-gr-ground ag-again!"
"Meme, stay close." Bubble hissed to her child, her long ears on point as she hugged Minny tighter. Her gaze sharpened as Drapion appeared from behind a tree, smirking tauntingly at the trio.
"Why Minny, how have you been?" The Scorpion Pokémon smiled at the frail bundle in Bubble's arms.
"No! G-go a-away, I-- I d-don-n't w-wan-t t-to go b-back." She mewled, covering her face with her paws in effort to protect herself. "Leave m-me a-alone!"
"Naw, you'd like that wouldn't you?" He sneered, icy blue eyes filled with a taunting kind of triumph. Drapion knew the three were trapped and the younger Azumarill would hardly stand against his skill.
"Leave her alone." Bubble hissed, glaring at the Poison and Dark Pokémon.
Drapion scoffed at her attempt of bravery. "Oh, what are you going to do about it Azumarill?"
The Aquarabbit stood straighter, head held high with a glare of deturmination. "I'll fight you." She hissed.
Her opponent laughed around. "You? Please, don't humour me. It doesn't look good on my image." Drapion sneered, he was far stronger then the Azumarill could even dream to be with experience that could nearly stand up to Ice, a Pokémon that had spent years ruling his village as a tyrant.
"I'm not going to sit idle by and let you hurt Minny again." Bubble replied, disgust clear in her tone. "If you want her, you'll have to go through me."
Drapion sneered once again. "You're not even worth the effort, just hand over the Buneary and you and your rat can go."
Minny squealed in protest, struggling blindly from Bubble's arms. "N-n-n-no! I-- I d-don't wa-nt t-to g-o-o b-ba-ck!" Her ears spung to life in panic, almost punching Bubble in the face multiple times.
"Minny, calm down." Bubble soothed, holding onto her terrified friend. "I'm not letting him get you, I promise."
The Bunny Pokémon sniffled lightly, blinking through her tears as she buried her head in Bubble's short, fuzzy fur. "I-- I'm scar-scar-red."
"Don't worry, you're not going with him." The Water and Fairy type assured before glaring back at Drapion as sat Minny and Meme aside a large oak tree. "I'll hold him off, you two run, okay?" She whispered to the children, keeping a close eye of Drapion.
"Mama!" Meme squeaked, shaking herself from side to side from lack of a neck to do so.
"No little one, you need to find somewhere safe to hide, you need to help Minny too okay." Bubble replied to her child, eyeing Drapion whom stood with his claws crossed, amusement clear in his eyes as Bubble assured her children's safety. "I know you can do it, be her eyes, like our game."
"Me be Minny's eyes so she won't fall!" Meme squeaked, nodding herself as she gave her tail to the young Buneary to hold. The Azurill knew her game well, she would bounce around slowly while Minny held her tail, the Buneary would tell her friend where she wanted to go while Meme got her there without letting her fall over.
"Good girl. You two need to get as far away as possible, Ice or myself will find you soon. Okay?"
Minny nodded her head slightly, as was near petrified and unused to having to take charge of situations but she was older then Meme. Although blind, she would have to lead to way. The young Buneary took a deep breath in as she stood upon shaking feet, knowing they had to find shelter as she wouldn't last long in the cold. "M-meme, find a-a b-big tr-ree w-with cur-ly r-ro-ots."
Meme nodded, hopping along through the snow on dainty feet as Minny struggled to follow. Drapion, who finally caught on with what Bubble was doing, roared out his protest, making Minny flinch and shy slightly but continued on her way as Bubble stood between the young fleeing Pokémon and the evil creature.
~❄~
Minny felt herself panicking on the inside, frozen tears rolling down her cheeks as she stumbled after Meme. She still found it quite difficult to stay on her feet for more then a few minutes and it wasn't that long before she collapsed into the snow, trembling from the cold. Meme gently nudged her friend.
"We go Minny, the tree super close." The young Azuril urged. "We be safe there until mummy and unky Ice come get us."
The young Buneary gave a stiff nod, fumbling around for the tail of the little Pokémon. She felt her muscles freezing up, trying to keep her warm. Minny couldn't be sure of where they were going, she'd never ventured out this way on her own, not since being blind anyway.
She struggled to stay standing, flinching when Meme squealed. "Wh-wh-what's t-the mat-ter-" Minny failed to finish her sentence before she was blown away, she didn't know how as she'd had no warning before she was ripped away from Meme and thrown into the snow.
The little Buneary cried out, fear and shock ran through her body, followed by pain and she roughly landed in the snow. Her weight landed on top of her still injured paw, causing a second cry of pain as she curled up into a ball, sobbing in feat as she tried to stay quite and hidden.
After what felt like an eternity, Minny raised her head, sniffling away she tears as she rose to her knees. The world around her remained stiflingly dark, quiet, suffocating. She had no idea what to do. What had happened to Meme, how far away was she? Was she even okay? The Normal type Pokémon swallowed hard and she stood up, trying to pick up any sound with her outstretched ears.
"I-ice?" She squealed, trying to find her friend. Minny hugged herself tightly, fighting against the wind as she tried to find her closest friend.
