Chapter 21: The Game Winner• Madison
The first day back after the suspension there was an awkward silence as Madison walked into class, and an even more awkward silence when Nayla walked in.
Madison glanced at Nayla and met her eyes. They exchanged a nod and the tension was miraculously lifted. Madison wondered how a 3-year feud, which was mostly one-sided, had ended with a nod. She didn't think much more of it. She just wanted to be past it.
The last week was a roller coaster for Madison. She had gotten a restraining order against her mom, plus Anwar had asked her out. She didn't know how she felt about the last one. Sure he was sweet and all, but she wanted to take things slow and see how they played out.

Later that week Madison, Betty, Kristen , and Nayla all went to the basketball game. It was the final match of the season. The Marton High School Tigers vs The Yallow High School Koalas. It was their rival school and the stakes were high.
They made their way through the packed gymnasium and sat at the front. Anwar, Asher, and Jace had saved them seats, due to a request. Madison took her seat in between Nayla and Betty. She could confidently say that she and Nayla were basically friends.
Madison was surprised that Nayla didn't mind that she and Anwar were a thing. She thought that would've upset her more.
They watched the game and cheered whenever their team made a point. They needed this win. The Koalas had won the cup for 4 consecutive years.
"Yassss," cheered Betty. She jumped up as Asher scored.
Kristen gave her a side eye. "I thought you didn't like him?" she asked accusingly.
Betty shrugged, "I'm just being supportive. Yasss," she cheered again for a random sophomore to prove her point.
"Omg," said Kristen, whipping out her phone to record with. "It's a one-point game."
They all leaned forward to get a better view. There was 10 seconds on the clock. They were down by one. Tigers ball. A junior threw it into Asher. He went forward and passed it to Anwar. 5 seconds on the clock. Anwar ran down the court. 3 seconds on the clock. He took a step back, and splash.
"Ahh," they all said, standing up and waving their hands. The commentator cheered as well.
Their side of the gym erupted in cheers and applause. "Anwar! Anwar! Anwar!"
The rest of the basketball team carried him up in the air. Anwar sat up there and waved at the cheering crowd raising his fist. His smile was big and his eyes were huge. He looked like he had just run a marathon.
He came over to Madison and leaned in for a kiss. Madison laughed hesitantly and leaned in to give him one.
Their surrounding friends erupted in cheers. Madison rolled her eyes, "grow up." She scolded, but she couldn't help but smile. It was really cute.
Nayla gave Anwar a hug and the rest of them joined in.
"We should all go out for ice cream," said Asher.
"Yah, it's on me." said the coach from behind them.
"YEAH," they all said, screaming and hollering.
