15 | Guardian Angel

THE ATMOSPHERE TENSED UP once he stepped his feet in the room; he had nothing with him. No guns, no weapons. The only thing he had was himself.

He saw there were a lot of bodyguards in the room, all eyes were watching him just like a tiger watching its prey. He scoffed as he think that it was funny to have a lot of eyes on him.

Setting his head to look straight, he saw an old man in his middle fifties was sitting on a big couch with his legs crossed. He just watched him in silence.

Jimin folded his arms as he waited for Lee Ruan to say something.

"You actually came," he spoke as he changed his sitting position. "And you don't bring anything with you?" He asked suspiciously while scanning his whole body with his eyes. "Are you trying to act brave, Park Jimin?" He said his full name.

Jimin rolled his eyes in disgust before folding his arms. "Didn't expect you to still remember my full name." He scoffed. "And of course, I come here with bare hands. Unlike you. Having to hire a bunch of idiots to protect you. What a coward, Mr Lee." He sneered.

Ruan didn't have anything to say about that.

He smirked. "You're really brave, Park Jimin. Just like your father."

Hearing his dad was mentioned, he clenched his fists. "You have no rights to talk about him." He muttered seriously, eyes were fiercely set on the old man's figure.

Scoffing, "Why? He's my best friend, remember?"

"Fuck that shit. You killed him." His voice was slightly raised but none of the bodyguards had the urge to do something.

Ruan stopped smirking, all his expressions slowly leaving his crinkled face. "And that was why you killed my son, right?" He asked. Anger started to fill up in his head as he looked at Jimin. Of course he was mad that he killed his one and only son. But he had something else on his mind.

"But let's just forget about that dead kid. He's useless anyways." The thing Ruan just said kinda made Jimin shocked. Everyone knows how he loved his son. "Since we're fair now, let me tell you something." He stated. "There's actually a reason why I want to meet you face to face."

"Not to make a chaos or war between both of us. Instead, I have an offer for you." He said as his voice sounded low-key suspicious.

"I want you to join my gang."

Almost all of the bodyguards were surprised after listening what Lee Ruan just said to Jimin. They really thought he was going to do something filthy to him. It was either kill him or torture him to death.

But instead, he asked him to join his gang.

There was silence for a few seconds before a scoff was heard. Jimin smirked sarcastically while looking at him in disgust. "You want me to join your stupid gang? It doesn't even worth it." He said that directly to Ruan's face.

Some gasps were heard. Ruan somehow had already expected this kind of reaction from Jimin. He had known him since he was a kid. He knew him quite well.

He smiled calmly. "Is it because your father? Are you still grieving from the incident?"

"Why can't you just forget about it and start a new life? I'll make you as the leader of the best team." He kept offering.

Jimin clenched his jaw by the fact that Ruan think that his dad's death was a joke to play with. "Mr Lee," he muttered. " My mom once told me that there are 5 stages of grief."

Ruan could feel something was wrong when Jimin started talking about his mom out of nowhere.

"Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance." He mentioned every each of them. "But, I would like to add one more." He looked up at Ruan with a mischievous smile.

He smiled devilishly. "Revenge."

His words had Ruan speechless, he literally lost his words for a few seconds. Trying to breath properly, he threw his cigarette away then set both of his elbows on his knees as his eyes were staring at Jimin.

"Plus, I'll never let the same snake bites me twice. I've had enough of your bullshit, Mr Lee. You always look up at yourself, thinking that you're king." He hissed before looking at the people's face. "Look at all these fools. They all have their respect for you."

"Of course they are. I was born a king. Everyone respects me regardless." Ruan kept praising himself.

Jimin scoffed. "A king isn't born. He's made."

Those words just made Lee Ruan had his mouth shut.

His people were exchanging looks with each other but Jimin had his eyes focused on the man who had killed his dad years ago. And the hatred was still there, in his broken heart.

Lee Ruan had always find Jimin as someone who was hard to defeat. Of course, he can just shoot him dead by now since he didn't bring any guns with him. That was enough to show how brave he was by meeting the well known mafia leader without bringing anything. Not even a gang.

But Ruan didn't want to waste such a good asset like Jimin. He saw the potential in him. Even since he was a kid— he watched him grow. And he could already feel that Jimin was the one who can take his dad's place. He even admitted that Jimin was more powerful than his own son, Lee Hongjon. He really wanted Jimin to be one of his people.

"You're really hard to defeated, huh?" Ruan asked calmly and he got another scoff from Jimin.

"Of course. It's hard to defeat a hard working person. Especially those who have their own targets in life."

Jimin let his expression settled and appeared cold, detached. It took every skill in deception he had learned since he first discovered that Ruan was the one who had murdered his dad.

Deep inside, Ruan was feeling triggered by Jimin's words. But he couldn't make it obvious. It would make him look like a coward.

"Why so aggressive, Jimin? I just want you to join my gang. Be one of us. I can offer you more than Jacky does." Ruan mentioned his enemy's name, Jacky. One of his people informed that Jimin was one of Jacky's most trusted people and that made Ruan really worried.

He knew Jimin's potential and he would do anything to avoid Jimin from involving himself in Jacky's team. Or else, he'd be dead.

Jimin scoffed. "Ah I see," he changed his standing position, but his eyes were still plastered on Ruan's figure, just like an eagle watching its prey. "You're scared that I will help Jacky achieving his target," he smirked mischievously.

Ruan clenched his fist. "Stop acting tough, Park Jimin. Just join my gang and I will give you everything you have never had before." He muttered and it somehow caused a silence for a few seconds.

Again, the environment was so tensed and silent. A few seconds passed just like that, but Jimin didn't let any seconds passed without him staring at Lee Ruan deathly, as if he was trying to give a message to him.

Instead of answering him, he smirked bravely while looking at each of his bodyguards' face. They looked furious, ready to attack if Jimin suddenly takes his hidden weapons out. All of them was told how unexpected Park Jimin could be.

Without any hint of fear in his voice, he poked his inner cheek with his tongue, he be looking so fierce and attractive at the same time. No one could deny that.

"The moment you pushed me down a few years ago, you should have prayed I wouldn't stand up again," a sly, mischievous smile was flashed by him and he detected that Ruan and some of his people were looking at him with full of tense shown on their faces. He liked the way they looked so worried. Smirking, he continued. "But you're too late, Mr Lee. I already stood up and now planning to get my revenge. You gonna pay me back for what you've done."

On the other hand, Yoongi kept glancing down at his wrist watch, worries was the only thing he could feel while he was waiting for Jimin to walk out from Ruan's manor. "If he doesn't show up in 5 minutes, I'm calling the cops." He said while tapping the steering with his index finger.

He offered himself to give him a company but Jimin rejected his offer. He told him that everything was going fine and he would walk out from the manor safely.

After all, he used to be my dad's best friend. I know him quite well, he won't do anything to me.

Those was what he said to Yoongi before walking into the manor alone. It had been 30 minutes since the moment and Yoongi had started to worry to death.

"If that old man does anything to him, I would really bea—" he suddenly heard a knock on his car's window, making him to jump a bit while flinching. "What the fuck!" He yelled while looking at the person who just knocked the car's window.

He muttered under his breath. "Damn Jimin you really almost killed me." With his eyes being rolled, he unlocked the car door so Jimin could hop in.

"Look who got scared so easily like a 5 years old kid," Jimin mocked him.

"Shut up, weirdo."

Yoongi parked his car right in front of Jimin's apartment building. He looked around to see if there were people watching them but gladly, there was none. Turning to Jimin, he asked, "May I come in? We can talk about— what happened between you and Lee Ruan just now. I'm very curious." He stated.

As for Jimin, he already planned on telling everything to Yoongi since he was one of the most trusted people he had. He was about to nod his head until his eyes suddenly caught a familiar small figure was standing alone; only a few metres away from them.

He blinked to make sure he wasn't mistaken her as someone else. But he was certain that it was really her. It was Heiji. He was surprised for a while that he almost forgot that Yoongi was right in front of him.

"Jimin? You haven't answered my question. I asked if I can—"

"No." He cut Yoongi's words before he could say anything else. Deep inside, Yoongi was taken back by the way Jimin quickly rejected his request.

He blinked in disbelief. "But I thought you—"

Jimin looked at him with big eyes, Yoongi was surprised because he somehow could see the sudden excitement in Jimin's eyes. It was weird and suspicious for Jimin to get excited out of the blue; as if something great was about to happen in a blink of eyes. "You know what? I have something important to do. I'll call you next time to meet up. Chiao." He quickly got off from Yoongi's car and without saying goodbye, he walked off from the spot in a hurry.

There, Yoongi was left dumbfounded in his own car as he watched Jimin who was walking away in disbelief. "What the hell is going on with this boy?"

Heiji just stood there without thinking of anything; her head was empty— just staring at his apartment building while wondering what he was doing. She suddenly got very worried and concerned of his condition. The moment right before she left his place— she still remembered how broken he was.

Speaking the truth, she felt really bad for leaving him just like that, especially when he was facing difficulties. She felt terrible. Really.

Since she left him that day, she couldn't help herself from not thinking about how he was doing. Whether he was okay, did he eat well, was he still facing the same problem— all this things kept bothering her.

But thank goodness she got the chance to meet him yesterday although the way they reunited was quite embarrassing to her. Who wouldn't feel humiliated when a guy you barely know bought a bunch of pads for you?

Suddenly, the mood changed when she suddenly heaved a sigh. She didn't know whether Jimin was just a stranger— or someone she just meant to know or— a friend to her. He has saved her life several times. It means he wasn't a stranger to her. Yet, someone she just know wouldn't do that either. So in this situation, she was thinking: could I actually consider him as a friend?

"But I don't think he'll like that," she whispered to herself after thinking how Jimin is like. After several times talking, observing and being around him, Heiji was aware that Jimin wasn't the type of a guy who would love to make friends. He was more to cold, anti social and arrogant type of a person. "I've never met someone as mean as him," she mumbled to herself until she saw a shadow of someone behind her.

Quickly, she turned around.

Park Jimin, her heart said while beating so fast. She didn't expect to meet him. She was just thinking of passing by his building but ended up spending too much time there. She gulped.

"Who's mean to you?" He asked, being the straightforward person as he is. He probably overheard what Heiji just mumbled just now.

And of course, she wasn't aware of his presence behind her a few minutes ago so she didn't expect that he would overhear her words. She gulped while trying to come up with a great excuse.

But Jimin didn't need an answer. He knew that she was talking about him. He was good at reading people and he was just playing along since he found himself loved to tease her. The way she gets nervous easily was funny to him.

"You know what? It doesn't matter. I know you were talking about me." He said fondly, without any expression was shown which made Heiji think that he was mad.

"B-But," she bit her lower lip in nervousness.

"Cut it off," he spoke. "Let's go." He told her and walked away without saying anything, knowing that she would follow him.

"Why are we at your place now?" Heiji asked while looking around. She wasn't aware that she, herself who automatically made her way into his apartment when he didn't even invite her in. She looked around just to find that everything in the house was still the same just like when she left.

Then, she looked back at Jimin after hearing him scoffed. "Isn't the reason why you suddenly showed up in front of my apartment building is to come over? You miss this place, aren't you?" He said that without thinking how embarrassed she would be.

Her face started to tint a light shade of pink.

"I didn't say anything. I just stopped by," she defended herself.

He smirked. "Yeah you stopped by because you miss this place." He made his own conclusion, but after all, it was true.

Heiji gritted her teeth and her grip on her handbag tightened. "Can't you just act like you didn't know? You're making me look like an idiot," she closed her eyes while sighing.

"Pfft, you are." He mumbled slowly.

"Where's your cop friend?" He mentioned about Taehyung all of the sudden. Heiji glanced at him. She just realised that she was acting a little bit too comfortable in his house which she worried will make Jimin feel uncomfortable. His apartment felt so nice and the environment made her feel as if she was at her own place.

"Who are you talking about?" Heiji asked even Taehyung was the only cop friend she had.

Jimin sighed. "The one with you yesterday. The man who had a mole on his nose."

"Oh—" She stopped after noticing how observant Jimin was. It was kinda surprising to know that he actually noticed the mole on Taehyung's nose. "He's working." She simply answered.

"I see." Jimin nodded quietly. "Do you have anything going on between you two?" He added, his fingers were fidgeting to each other.

Heiji didn't seem to understand his question. "What does it suppose to mean?"

"Is he— your boyfriend?" There was hesitation in his voice but he managed to not make it sound obvious. As usual, his expression may looked like he didn't care. But one thing he didn't realize; he was low-key afraid that Taehyung could be her boyfriend. He blinked to act natural before turning away and took a few sips of his juice.

The next thing Heiji said almost made him choked. "What kind of bullshit are we talking right now? Me and Taehyung? Couple? That's the most disgusting thing I've ever heard my whole life. Someone should bring me to the mental hospital if I ever say I have feelings for him. He's my best friend since forever. He's more like a sibling to me." She explained casually. Jimin was worried because he had never heard Heiji says something harsh before.

Listening what she just said just now made him think if he was the one who unintentionally taught her to curse. He kept saying harsh words when they were together before. "I see." He cleared his throat then sat on the kitchen counter.

"What made you think that we're a couple?" She was curious although it was a normal thing for people to think that she and Taehyung were a couple. They were so close. Their friends in highschool used to ship them together.

"Well," he stared down at his veiny hands.

The way you laughed when he was with you.
The way you looked at him.
The way he casually wrapped his arm around your waist— there was no hesitation.
And mostly, the way you are so comfortable when you're around him.

"Nothing." He stated.

They went out for a walk together.

Both of them were walking side to side, Jimin had both of his hands comfortably tucked in his pockets while Heiji just stayed quiet during the walk. Even none of them decided to break the silence, it wasn't awkward at all. Maybe because they had found their chemistry together.

The weather today was perfect, not too hot and not too cold even it was almost winter season. She looked around to see people around her. She spotted some couples were walking together, arms were linked to each others and smiled were flashed brightly. They looked so happy. She loved the way some couples are so lovey dovey.

As she was walking while day dreaming, she didn't see a bicycle was coming to her way. A boy teen was so focused on eating his popsicle that he didn't realised that he was about to crash into someone. A few inches before the boy would hit her, Heiji felt a strong gesture on her waist— the grip was firm and tight. She looked ahead and saw the bicycle was almost hitting her but Jimin pulled her aside, which saved her from getting hit.

"Aaa!" She flinched but fortunately she was already in Jimin's embrace. She looked up at Jimin who was still hugging her. But he wasn't looking at her. He kept his eyes focused on that kid.

"Focus on the road next time, you almost hit someone." He yelled so that the boy could hear him. He looked down at Heiji who was still in his embrace. He slowly let her go before asking, "You didn't hurt, right?"

She shook her head. "Thanks to you." She started blushing. She had no idea why she was blushing all of the sudden but the thought of Jimin just saved her from getting hit made her embarrassed. But she liked that.

"Glad to know that. Let's go."

Heiji

We just walked without knowing where to go. All we knew was just walking. I tried to breathe calmly so that my cheeks could turn back to its normal colour. I would get extra embarrassed if Jimin noticed that I was blushing.

As we were walking, I noticed a few girls were looking at us— no, they were looking at Jimin.

"God, look at him. He's so good looking." One of them said.

"I hope the girl is just his sister or a friend." The other one said.

I wasn't even sure if he ever considered me as his friend. I sighed before taking a glance at him. His face was straight. It seemed like he overheard what the girls just said but judging from his looks, I bet he's used to get such compliments from random girls. He was a very good looking guy. I had no doubts.

"Jimin," I stopped walking just so I can look at him properly.

He looked at me and waited until I say something.

"Thank you." I thanked him. "Thank you for everything. Thank you for always saving me." I looked up at him. Honestly, I had no idea why I kept being in danger lately.

But he was always there to save me. Everytime. Even just now. It felt like he was my guardian angel. It felt like a miracle to have him around me.

He stared at me. But this time, with a slight hint of emotions. I could see he was about to smile but he stopped himself from doing so. Nodding, he said, "You're welcome."
