Chapter 3: Realizations Explained
AN: I have started to wonder more and more what the people reading this story think.
-------------------------------
Somehow Mori had managed to catch Camille as she fell backward before she squished Honey who was stuck in place because he did not realize what was exactly happening until it was too late. Haruhi was quickly scooped up by an over-dramatic Tamaki who was blabbering on about how someone had molested his poor daughter. She was in a state of shock and embarrassment that kept her from shutting Tamaki up, standing still in his arms with her mouth open.
"So what are we going to do Kyoya-senpai?" Hikaru asked with a raised eyebrow.
"She knows Haruhi's secret now." Kaoru added, stating the obvious while wearing a matching expression.
"We are going to have to think of a way to keep an eye on her. We cannot let her expose Haruhi's secret!" Tamaki cut in before Kyoya could even open his mouth.
"I'm going to take a look at her files to see what I can find. In the meantime, club activities are about to start." Kyoya said as he closed his notebook and headed toward the back of the room where his laptop was.
"What should we do with her?" Honey asked while poking Camille's cheek hesitantly before Mori picked her up bridal style. He carried her to a couch and laid her down on it then walked off to take his place to greet the ladies who would be in shortly.
"I guess that answers that question." Haruhi said while eyeing the passed out female that had accidentally groped her.
"I would call off host club activities, but we missed some last week due to the visit to the water park." Tamaki sighed before looking over at Camille too. "She looks familiar and I can't seem to place her for some reason.
-------------------------------
Camille came to after the host club activities were in full swing. The soft laughter and loud squeals of fangirls was enough to make her grumble in annoyance to herself. She had heard about the host club on her way to her last class, before she had seen Tamaki and Kyoya, and the way the girls talked about them made her want to throw things at their heads in an attempt to knock some sense into them. There was only one guy worth squealing over and he was gone.
Pushing memories from her mind, she rolled over onto her back. The plush seat of the couch she laid on was comfortable and just the right shape to cradle her head. Her eyes snapped open when she felt a slight movement under her head, amethyst eyes meeting her own.
Tamaki had taken it upon himself to place her head in his lap because she had looked uncomfortable. The others had told him to leave her be, but he could not help himself. He knew her from somewhere and he was determined to figure out where from.
Ladies gasped at the sight of them staring at each other with identical blushes before squealing loudly at how cute they looked. This only served as fuel for Camille to rocket upward, her forehead connecting with Tamaki's chin. She scrambled to the unoccupied end of the couch they were seated on. Honey's pink rabbit lay in her lap as she clutched her forehead, wondering how it got there in the first place.
"Oh good..You're awake." Tamaki said as he clasped his chin, the girls across from them looking concerned. She nodded and blushed before hugging the pink rabbit in her arms without thinking. "Sorry I startled you. You just didn't look comfortable and what kind of host would I be if I let a princess such as yourself stay in that condition?"
"Are you sure you didn't do it for your own benefit senpai?" Haruhi asked in a flat tone before setting a cup of coffee on the table in front of Camille nervously,"I thought you could use something to wake you up. I know I wouldn't be in a great mood if I woke up to someone's face in mine." She said the last part pointedly at Tamaki before fixing her eyes back on Camille.
She offered Haruhi an apologetic look for earlier, hoping she would catch on before she hesitantly took the cofee that had been placed on the table in front of her. The strange aroma filled her nose, confusing her for a few moments before she took a sip. That one sip was enough to have her downing the thankfully warm coffee.
"Well it's good that wasn't piping hot. I can see you like instant coffee." Haruhi laughed before taking the empty cup. "Also, please don't mention earlier. We can forget it happened..." A blush tinted the girl's cheeks as she requested the accident be ignored. Little did she know that Camille would not have said anything about the matter anyway.
She nodded and a blush of her own rose up to her cheeks as a hand reached up to imitate zipping her lips. A couple of girls that were coming in for their appointments fawned over how cute Haruhi looked when she blushed. The only thing that confused her was why they kept referring to Haruhi as a boy.
"We'll explain everything after the ladies leave." Haruhi murmured before rushing off to meet her next appointments. Camille was left sitting there hugging the pink rabbit in her lap while Tamaki looked at her out of the corner of his eye every once in a while.
Why don't you take a picture? It'll last longer, she thought with a silent snort of amusement before scanning the room with her large red-brown eyes. Tamaki was sitting next to her with his appointments. Haruhi had just greeted her's as the twins that sent her into the downward spiral earlier said goodbye to their last ones for the day. Kyoya was typing away on his laptop, the glare of his glasses keeping her from seeing if he was staring at the screen or if he was looking away as people sometimes did. Takashi and Honey were across the room by themselves, having just said goodbye to their last appointments as well.
She pushed herself to stand and walk over to them, clutching the rabbit in her arms. She watched as Honey stuffed a rather large bite of cake into his mouth before her eyes wandered over to the ever silent Takashi. She was slightly startled whenever he was staring at her, but he flicked his gaze over to Honey right before she was noticed by the smaller boy.
"Cam-chan! Did Usa-chan keep you safe while you slept?" He said cutely before beaming up at her. She assumed that he was talking to her about the rabbit that was left in her care while she was asleep.
She nodded and then offered Usa-chan back before patting Honey on the head in thanks. Her feet carried her over to one of the large windows, a hand touching the bottom of it as she rested her forehead against the cool glass. Thoughts were flying through her mind as she stood there, blocking out everyone around her and their conversations.
Before long she felt a tug on her hideous yellow dress that pulled her out of her daze to look down at Honey who was trying to pull her over towards where the others were gathered. Camille swallowed hard before she allowed Honey to take her hand and pull her toward the group. She was afraid of what they may say about her outburst of tears before passing out like she had and worried that they would ask for an explanation to the whole episode.
"As you may have realized, we have a slight problem." Kyoya said while looking down the table at her, his hands resting on the wood that spread between them. Her heart thundered in her chest as she waited for him to continue. "You have found out a secret we have kept from the rest of the school due to the fact that it could cause Haruhi to cease her host duties."
Camille gave a confused look over at Haruhi before scanning their faces in question. She parted her lips slightly and let her little pink tongue snake out to wet them slightly in nervousness before her teeth sank into her bottom lip. What are they going to do to me now that I know?
"Our problem is that we need to make sure the secret does not get out." Tamaki said, looking more serious than he had ever seen him. The moment lasted all of two seconds before he was attempting to hug Haruhi,"I don't want my precious daughter to be in a bad situation!" He exclaimed as Haruhi held a hand up to his forehead to keep him at arm's length. The faint redness from Camille's forehead still painting his chin.
"You see, Haruhi owes us quite a bit of money-" One twin began to speak.
"If she doesn't host then she can't pay off the debt." The other one finished seamlessly for the other.
A pang of sadness flodded her for a few moments as she remembered all the times her and Cameron had done the same thing to other people. Mostly it was done to annoy people because they knew that it set them off. Cameron thought it was funny, but Camille did it to keep people from getting too close to her and her brother. She wanted it to be just the two of them, but now it was just her.
"That brings us back to you. Now that you know her secret, we must ensure that you keep it." Kyoya said before straightening up and pulling her camera out of his pocket. "I went through your files, phone, and your camera to figure out a bit more about you. You're an interesting find Camille. Your files are mostly locked away to where even I cannot reach them. All they say is that you are a voluntary mute and that you are not to be called upon in class for any reason." He came around the table slowly as he was talking like a cat closing in on it's prey. He leaned into her slightly, balancing a hand on the table to keep from falling into her. "Now why would someone who seems to have many videos of herself singing on stage happily want to keep their voice from the world?"
A deep blush crept up her face at the closeness that he kept even as she took a step back from him. The others were looking a bit confused at how Kyoya was reacting, but made no move to make him pull away. It seemed as though they were curious as to why she was mute. The only thing she could do was swallow hard before reaching a shaking hand out to grasp the camera that Kyoya had in his hand that was not being used to keep himself propped on the table. Her fingers brushed over his as he released it and she looked away quickly so that she could rifle through the pictures saved on her camera.
She came to a picture and stopped as her eyes watered. It was a picture of her sitting on the floor with a book in her lap, her brother's arms slung around her shoulders. His face had pressed up against her's as her mother snapped the picture of them beaming like a couple of idiots up at the camera. She remembered it just like it was yesterday.
She passed the camera back to Kyoya without looking and clutched her dress tightly. "I see..this must be your twin. There is a striking resemblance." He said smoothly before she quickly motioned to the next picture in the slides she had pulled up. It was a picture of her brother's gravestone.
Camille heard him exhale before passing the camera to the others. She bit into her lip hard enough to taste blood so that she did not start crying as she had before. Her attempts were successful until Honey flung himself at her and started crying into her shoulder,"I'm sorry Cam-chan!"
She felt tears leak out of her eyes before she patted him on the head and looked up at the others. All of them, save Kyoya and Takashi, looked like a mix of confusion and sadness. She realized they did not get why she was not talking. They did not put two and two together.
A sigh escaped her lips, but then the quietest person finally said something. "Your sadness made you." Takashi said in a deep voice, causing the rest of them to look at him in slight surprise that he had said anything in the first place before they looked back at her.
She nodded and then burst out in tears again, clutching Honey who was still wailing into her shoulder. It felt odd to hug someone or even be close to someone like this, but it was oddly comforting in a way to know that he was sharing in her sadness despite him not knowing the whole story.
Tamaki slammed his hands down on the table while looking straight at her. She looked up at the noise, startled into blinking away her tears. "That's it! Judging by the quality of the photos you have taken on this camera I have decided that you will now be our camera girl!"
Camille was taken aback for a few moments before she wiped away her tears and nodded, a genuine smile breaking out across her face for the first time in a long time. A yell of excitement came from Honey as he hopped off her lap and ran over to Takashi quickly to scale up his back. "Cam-chan is staying!"
Yes I am, but what am I getting myself into now? Please give me strength to get through this Cameron. I need it. She prayed silently before glancing at the others who were agreeing with the host club king's decision. It was decided.
