Chapter 26: I Should Have Stayed Home!
Camille found herself walking along the hallways of Ouran Academy with Kyoya as they headed toward the club room. Everyone was in a hurry to go home today or to get everything ready to stop by the Host Club it seemed. This made an uneasy feeling form in the pit of her stomach and she was about to ask Kyoya if he knew how many people were to come to the club room that day until she saw his expression. He looked like a cross between worried, angry, and guilty all at once. This made her look down at her feet once more as her own guilt swept back over her.
He was still very angry at Tamaki for making her a host and had pleaded with her to not even come to the host club after school that day, but then he had realized that would mean she would be home alone and he felt guilty. She had tried to reassure him, but the truth was that she was more nervous than she let on.
What were they going to have her do? Was she going to have to wear a ridiculous costume? Deal with annoying girls? Why was she even becoming a hostess if it was set up for girls anyway?
As they came to the abandoned music room, she pulled up short and bit into her lip. Her red-brown eyes lifted slowly to look up at him,"Kyoya..I'm very sorry about all of this. If you hadn't helped me come back here then we wouldn't be in this mess. Not to mention it just got messier with me becoming a Host. I really am sorry and regret making you go through all of this trouble just for me." Her voice cracked at the end as her eyes stung with tears of her regret that made her vision blurry.
He stared at her for a few moments before he finally walked over and grabbed her wrist. He pulled her into the club room and shut the door, but instead of letting her go and let her deal with the pain on her own he did something better. He used his hold on her wrist to pull her into him, one arm wrapping around her waist to hold her securely against him while the other moved up to make his hand cradle the back of her head gently as he pushed her face into his shoulder. She turned her head to keep from suffocating in his uniform blazer and sniffled as she attempted to keep her tears from spilling over.
"I-I'm really sorry Kyoya." She choked out again before she squeezed her eyes shut tighter. The sound of fabric hit her ears as his hand grasped at her waist a little bit tighter, causing her to force her eyes open and look up at him. He had his eyes shut as if he did not notice her looking at him and his expression was unreadable.
"You have nothing to be sorry for Camille. I volunteered to be the one to help you because I care about you very much. If I didn't then I would have left you there. I want you here more than anything." He said quietly before he opened his eyes to look down at her. He seemed a bit surprised at finding her looking at him, but quickly recovered and offered a small genuine smile. That was when she noticed how close their faces were and how easy it would be to kiss him right then. To show him that she was appreciative of his care of her.
That was until Tamaki, Haruhi, Hikaru, Kaoru, Honey, and Mori all came tumbling out of the kitchen at the back of the large room. The twins, Honey, and Tamaki fell into a heap on the floor with large eyes. Haruhi and Mori looked a little amused at finding them in each other's arms.
Camille felt her face heat up to the point of her body feeling like it would start sweating at any moment as she pulled away from Kyoya and looked down at the floor. The hem of her yellow uniform looked very interesting in that moment as Kyoya straightened his blazer and let his normal, cool expression slide over his face. If she had been looking up at him she may have seen how he was sending a small underlying glare at them for interrupting.
She was snapped out of her embarrassment as the twins righted themselves and came over to drape their arms around her shoulders. They both wore mischievous grins as they started forcing her to the kitchen they had just exited. "Uh...Hikaru...Kaoru...Where are we going?" She said nervously while looking around frantically for Kyoya to bail her out of whatever it was that they were going to do. He was deep in an angered conversation with Tamaki and did not see her being dragged off. No help there. She thought with a mental sigh as she was pushed into the kitchen.
"Get changed quickly before the guests start to arrive." Hikaru said behind her before shutting the door behind them as they exited once more.
"What? Get dressed in...NO WAY!" She exclaimed as her eyes landed on a mannequin that housed a black maid's outfit that looked much too short compared to the long uniform that she was used to wearing in front of her peers. Around the neck of it was a black collar with a large bell, bow, and cross situated in the middle. To complete the look a tail had been added to the back of the outfit along with a large pair of ears for her head.
She felt her knees give out as she slumped down to the ground and stared up at the dress in mortification. How did they expect her to wear this out there? Especially in front of Kyoya! This was going to get a lot of backlash from people who were already looking at her and judging her, but she knew that if she did not come out of that room in the outfit willingly that she would be drug back in and forced to wear it.
She exhaled slowly and then stood up once more, reaching behind her to unzip her dress with a little bit of trouble. Once the fabric slid off her body to land in a pool on the floor, she bent and picked it up to fold it and place it on the counter before moving toward the short dress. She bit into her lip and pulled the dress off the mannequin before stepping into it and zipping it up. The skirt's hem ended just barely at mid-thigh and it caused her to pull at it a bit before she put the collar and ears on as well.
"I feel ridiculous." She said quietly before she turned and walked toward the door to peek out of it. The twins were standing guard at the door watching Tamaki and Mori hold a struggling Kyoya back from rushing into the kitchen. It surprised her that he would this desperate to try and get to her after she yelled as she had, but she also found it kind of adorable that he would be willing to help her in a matter that was as little as this.
She stepped out of the kitchen with a blush painting her face, her teeth chewing on her lip as she pulled on the skirt's hem once more in an attempt to pull it down again. Her eyes slowly traveled up to see the faces of the hosts. The twins were blinking at her and trying to keep their faces composed. Haruhi was staring with her mouth hanging open like she could not believe that she had actually put the outfit on. Mori was keeping his eyes adverted like he was embarrassed. Tamaki was looking at her with an unreadable expression that had the recovering Haruhi glaring at him as if she was about to commit murder. Honey was already bouncing around and exclaiming that she looked adorable before he attempted to get her to meow like a cat.
Finally she came to Kyoya. He had stopped struggling as soon as she stepped out of the kitchen. His eyes continuously scanned her from her black shoes and white stockings to the way her hair fell down around her shoulders and the blush that painted her face. Her blush intensified as she stared back at him and her eyes grew wide. Her feet felt like they were glued to the floor. "Do..Do I really have to wear this thing?" She said quietly as she looked down at the floor again.
"AWW SHE'S SO CUTE!!!" Hikaru and Kaoru exclaimed in unison before hugging her from each side and rubbing their faces against her cheeks. She felt her face being squashed inward as she let out a groan in annoyance. She was going to be stuck in this damn outfit the whole time she was working and there was no way out of it.

She was going to kill them. The twins mostly because they would not leave her alone. She was told to deliver drinks and snacks from the kitchen to the guests and make sure that they had everything they needed. It was more of a maid's job than it was a host's job, but she was more than happy to not have to sit at a table and entertain people.
Hikaru and Kaoru kept trying to get her to sit with them and act like their cat. It was annoying and it only served to make her emotions go from embarrassed to pissed off by the time club activities were over. Kyoya looked murderous the entire time and now she knew why he had wanted her to stay home despite having to be by herself.
She stalked back to the kitchen to change out of her maid uniform when the last of the guests had left. She was grumbling under her breath the entire time while angrily putting her school uniform back on. Camille was more angry than she had been since her parents had forced her to leave for Japan and when they had decided she should come back. It showed plainly as she stalked out of the kitchen once more and over to get her bag from Kyoya's desk.
Her eyes looked up into Kyoya's face for a moment before he nodded and they left the club room without a word. No words were exchanged between the two of them even as they walked through the empty halls of the school toward the car that was waiting to pick them up and take them home. The silence was broken when they were several blocks from the school.
"I'm staying home tomorrow. Regardless if that means I have to stay home alone." She murmured as she kept looking at things going by out the window. "I'm sorry that I didn't listen to you in the first place and went anyway."
A sigh came from next to her before she felt a weight settling closer to her in the seat. She turned her head to stare right into his face as he looked at her. "You don't have to be sorry Camille. You had no idea what you were getting yourself into and I had no idea that's what they were going to do. If anything, I'm sorry that I couldn't have done a better job to prevent it."
"It's not your responsibility to prevent it Kyoya." She murmured again before she blushed at how close he was. If she did not know better, she would have thought his face was closer to her's than it was back in the club room.
"You're my fiance. It is my responsibility to keep you safe, happy, cared for, and many other things." He said with a chuckle before he leaned forward to give her a soft kiss on the lips before he pulled back and situated his back against the seat once more. "Plus, I think you should keep the outfit for when we're at home. You did look rather cute." He chuckled with a slight blush on his cheeks as well while he looked back out the window. The only answer he got was a giggle and a playful slap on the arm.
