Chapter 24: Return to Ouran

She could not believe it. He had really pulled it off. Kyoya had managed, in the course of a couple of days, to utterly sweep her parents off their feet and convince them that he was the best candidate for her fiance. After the second day of him showing up at the house to show his persistence, her parents had decided to stop throwing suitors at her. Ultimately it was her decision who to choose, but her parents had seen that Kyoya was "changing" her and had decided to try and give her a friendly push in his direction.

Now that they had managed to convince her parents that they were to be together, they were officially engaged. This meant that her parents had turned Camille over to Kyoya and they were currently traveling back to Japan as planned. When it came closer to time for the wedding, her parents would be traveling to Japan to stay for the week of the wedding that was to be taking place the week after graduation. When was graduation? In three months from now and Camille had a lot of school work to catch up on if she was going to be able to finish.

Another twist in this turn of events? Her parents had decided that it would be best if she went to stay with Kyoya at his house to become better acquainted with his family. At first it had surprised her that her parents would be bold enough to declare something like that, but Kyoya had been quick to agree. Now her stomach was tied in knots at the idea of having to see him every single day, travel to school with him every day, and also be seen at school with him in this way. Everyone would know in a matter of hours as soon as she exited the car that would take them to school. It was not traditional in any form and she knew there would be some sort of backlash for it.

Her hands fisted her white skirt as she looked out the window of the plane, her eyes not really seeing the sky or the clouds that flew by. She was nervous to be starting a new chapter of her life and to return to an old one she had left months ago. Things were changing quickly and her anxiety was through the roof. The only thing that made it better was when a hand connected with one of her own, making her stomach erupt into butterflies instead of that annoying feeling of nausea.

Red-brown eyes blinked as she came back to her senses and turned to look up at him. Kyoya was sitting next to her on his laptop most of the flight, but he had taken this time to try and comfort her in some form. He smiled at her slightly and ran his thumb over the back of her hand after he entwined their fingers. The feeling was slightly foreign to them both, but seemed natural at the same time. It felt right to not have any barriers between them and now they were able to show affection in small doses to one another. Camille was sure that things would have been more different if she had not been embarrassed to do the things she wished she could, but he seemed to respect her and not push her.

"You know, everything is going to be alright. Don't worry so much. We only have to figure out how to avoid everything now. That's our only drawback." He said quietly before looking back to his laptop while keeping his fingers entwined with her's.

His words confused her greatly. He still had intentions of calling off the wedding, but the way he was acting showed that he was more than willing to go through with it if it came down to it. She was more than willing to just let things play out, but if he was not ready for something like this or just acting this way to make things seem more real to people who may look on them and try to see the whole thing as a sham, she was going to be more than a little upset. She was giving her all to this situation and throwing her feelings into it in hopes that she was not going to get hurt. If he planned to hurt her, she needed to be ready but could not bring it in her heart to even throw up a small wall between them.

Her eyes drifted back to the window as she felt the plane start to descend toward the runway, her mind was at war with itself the whole time. It did not look like one side was going to win anytime soon either.

——-

Camille had woken up the next morning in the bedroom given to her down the hall from Kyoya's ready to be back at school. That night she had tried to catch up on as much homework as she could despite him urging her to get some rest. Now she was more than ready to be back at the school. Even putting on that hideous yellow dress did nothing to dampen her spirits as she got ready.

When she finished getting ready for the day, she tied a bow around her ponytail that was a bright red color to match the one of the uniform she wore. Her hands slipped Bell into his cage before she bid him farewell and left the room to head to breakfast. Luckily, breakfast was only served for both Kyoya and herself because the rest of his family was already busy.

"Are you ready to start school again? I hope you didn't stay up too late because we have to stay after to prepare for a banquet that is being held tomorrow night." Kyoya said to her as they grabbed their things and headed out to the car.

She nodded slightly and offered him a bit of a smile,"Yes, I'm more than ready to be back at school. I tried to catch up on as much work as I could so that I wouldn't be too far behind, but I did manage to get a few hours of sleep as well." She slipped into the backseat before him and situated herself with her bag sitting at her feet in the floorboard. "Say, you didn't happen to mention to the rest of the hosts that I was coming back...did you?" She asked him as soon as he slipped in beside her.

Kyoya blinked slightly and then chuckled,"Surprisingly, I forgot. I was more worried about making sure that you didn't stay up too late working yourself to the bone. I could let them know now before we get there, if you want."

She shook her head furiously and laughed softly, her ponytail bobbing behind her as she did. "No, let them be surprised. I think it would be great to sneak up on them." His laughter joined with her's as they crept closer and closer to the school.

The closer they got to the school, however, the more Camille could see him tensing up and becoming more shutdown. He was mentally preparing himself to be as he usually was while around others and it made her a bit sad. She liked seeing the open side of Kyoya, but also felt privileged to be the only one to see him that way. Her hand snaked out of her lap to land on one of his own as they pulled up to the school, her face turning up toward his for a moment to give him a reassuring smile. The smile she gave him was returned with a bit of one of his own before he leaned forward to give her a quick kiss on the lips.

Too stunned at the kiss to even return one, Camille frowned slightly when he slipped his hand out of her's to get out of the car. Voices could be heard from people who were making their way up to the school and it made her feel like the first day at Ouran all over again. Her hands grabbed her bag quickly before she slid across the seat to peer out at Kyoya who had turned back to her to offer her a hand in getting out of the back.

Her hand connected with his as she stepped out of the car into the sunlight. Her eyes scanned the people who were walking toward the school in hopes that they would not all be staring. To her displeasure, many people were staring at them both and it caused a deep blush to rise up into her cheeks. The whispers were already starting as the door to the car shut behind her, cutting off her only means of escape.

"It's alright. Come on." Kyoya said quietly before he led her toward the school past all of the people who were beginning to gossip. He kept his face a mask as they made their way toward the doors of the school and Camille envied his ability to keep up a facade that well.

Upon walking down one of the hallways, a shout of happiness filled her ears. Her head shot up just as a small figure launched itself at her body and she was forced to catch them. Honey had jumped on her at the first sighting of her and was now talking excitedly in a way that made it hard to understand him. Had she not seen him a few moments before, she likely would have been sitting on the ground instead of setting him on his feet in front of her. She was only a few inches taller than he was and the way he had thrown himself at her had caused her to stumble back slightly. "Wait...what? Honey-senpai, please slow down. I can't understand you." She laughed softly as Mori walked up to them both and began looking at the two of them like Kyoya was.

Honey blinked up at her and hugged Usa-Chan before smiling happily,"I'm super happy Cam-Chan is back! I'm sorry I got too excited."

"No need to apologize. I'm happy to be back too!" She giggled before she gave him a hug and looked up at the other two. "Wait...I thought you both graduated already. How is it that you're here right now?"

"We came to help with the banquet since we are still part of the host club!" Honey beamed up at her while rocking from his heels to his toes.

"Oh, well we should probably get to class before we are late though. Honey-senpai, Mori-senpai we will see you after school!" She beamed happily at them before grabbing Kyoya's sleeve and dragging him along behind her toward their classroom.

"Why are you in such a hurry to get to class?" Kyoya asked her curiously. If she did not know better, she would say that he sounded amused.

"Did you not see all of those people staring?!" She hissed at him with a blush on her cheeks,"I just want things to be normal and it's hard when things are this way. Especially with how Honey-senpai was drawing so much attention."

Kyoya shook his head and then went to his seat a few seats away from her own before turning to smile at her,"Everything will be alright. Trust me. After school we will be able to go to the club room and then nobody will be able to stare as much." He turned back toward the front of the class as the teacher walked in, hoping he was right.
