Chapter 23: Confession
Swallowing hard, Camille found herself struggling with her thoughts about Kyoya's question. He had just asked her if she was prepared to go through with a marriage to him if it came to that. Part of her was ready to do anything to go back to the place she had decided was her real home. Even if it meant marrying a very good friend of her's. The other part of her was confused about her feelings toward him at all.
Since she had seen Tamaki with Haruhi it had been set in stone that her feelings, the very few she had for him, were just fleeting ones. A mild crush that was not worth pursuing because she wanted to see her friends happy. If she thought long and hard about it, she supposed that she had been secretly wishing the two of them would get together and be happy all along. Things with Kyoya had turned from displeasure at his presence to annoyance anytime he was around to an understanding that they should be civil. Somewhere along the way they had become friends and now she felt like they were closer than friends should be. If she did not know any better, she would say that she had developed strong romantic feelings for him.
The thought of being with Kyoya caused those butterflies in her stomach to flutter like crazy. She had thought they were from anxiety, but now she realized they were because she had started to like him at some point. Her face flamed at the idea of being married to him and her head bowed downward to allow her bangs to fall across her face to hide the pink skin. Her tongue snaked out to lick her dry lips as she nodded slightly, not trusting her voice for a few moments before she finally swallowed hard once more. "Yes. I am, but the question is if you are prepared to be stuck with me." She said quietly while not looking up at him. She was afraid to see what his reaction to her words would be.
It was silent for what seemed like an eternity before a hand brushed her hair from her face while the other's fingers slipped under her chin to turn her face toward him. "I told you once before that I was fond of you. Just because you were stubborn this whole time does not mean that those feelings have changed. Honestly, I'm surprised that you would be desperate enough to throw those feelings of being stubborn aside to agree to this plan. Unless things have changed and I have managed to make you fall for me." His last sentence was punctuated by an almost cocky smirk that had her face flaming all over again.
She ripped her chin away from his hands and looked away once more. "You're an idiot. You know that right?" She murmured almost inaudibly.
"I'm sorry?" He apparently had not heard what she had said to him at all. His voice was laced with concern and confusion instead of the cockiness that it had once held.
Her head snapped up and she looked at him with bright cheeks and wide eyes,"I said you're an idiot. How could you not tell that this whole time I have been trying to keep myself from liking anyone? I've done everything in my power to distance myself from everyone and you somehow managed to weasel your way in past my defenses. You ended up making me so infuriated because you were the last person I expected to ever have feelings for, but now here I am!"
He looked slightly stunned as he looked at her before he recovered a bit,"Are you saying that my jest wasn't actually a jest at all? That I was hitting the nail on the head?" He tilted his head at her and it caused her to become even more irritated. She had just confessed to him and he was acting as if it did not matter in the slightest.
Tears of anger sprang into her eyes as she squeezed them shut and nodded her head slightly,"I worked so hard because I told myself I would never love anyone as much as I loved my brother or let anyone close to me enough to be trusted completely ever again. I lose everyone close to me in some way or another and I'm tired of it happening. I'm tired of opening myself up to become broken into a million pieces each time. There's barely any pieces of me left and I'm struggling to pick them up again." She was silent for a few moments to catch her breath as she managed to open her eyes, tears finally spilling down her cheeks as she looked up at him. "Don't you under-"
She never fully managed to get her question out because the next thing she knew, Kyoya's lips were firmly planted onto her own. He had cut her off by kissing her in a way that managed to soft and passionate at the same time. It stole away her words and her breath, her heart pounding in her chest more than it ever had before. Just as she was getting used to it, the pressure of his soft lips on her's was gone. The air between them filled with angry chattering that had erupted from the little ferret that had been silent this whole time draped onto her shoulder. She supposed he had been napping, but now he was fully awake and angry at Kyoya for invading her personal space.
"Bell! Enough!" She scolded with a laugh before she could no longer contain herself and started laughing uncontrollably at Kyoya's expression. The angry noises coming from her pet ceased as she pulled him off her shoulder to set him on the grass near their feet. Kyoya's expression was full of surprise and confusion once more as he looked at her then to the little creature who was glaring up at them.
"What is his problem?" Kyoya asked in such a way that caused Camille to laugh harder, sliding off the bench onto the ground while clutching her stomach to try and stave off the pain from the lack of oxygen. Bell did not find this funny at all and climbed the nearest trellis to situate himself on the garden wall away from the both of them.
When Camille finally sobered up she sat up and looked up at Kyoya with a small smile. "Bell seems to think that I didn't want you in my personal space. He gets mad whenever anyone touches me because I usually don't want to be messed with."
Kyoya reached out to pull her up to sit on the bench again with a smirk,"So, does that mean you did want me in your personal space then?" He did not wait for an answer and stole another kiss from her before resting his forehead on her's. "How about you let me help you pick up all those broken pieces and find the ones you've managed to lose?" His voice was a soft whisper despite nobody being around to hear either of them.
"Yes..." She answered back with a smile.

AN: Sorry this one is so short (and the others that have been short as well. I have been working on a writer's block lately and I'm forcing myself to write. I have many more chapters to come in this. I can tell you that now. It's just getting there that is the hard part. Please excuse the crappiness TT.TT
