Chapter 1: Life After Death

Since that day, Camille took a vow of silence. She gave up singing, dancing, her friends, and even stopped going to school all together. Everything reminded her of Cameron, her precious brother, and it made her feel empty. Her other half was missing and nothing felt the same.

Her parents began to worry most when she stopped eating as much as she used to, but even then they started to shut her out. They started fighting more often and neglected her existence. She supposed that they hoped she was just going to snap out of it one day.

Weeks of waiting for her to snap out of it turned to months and Camille had started to lock herself in her room more. Her face was constantly switching between one of pain to one full of tears. Any time she thought it was over, she began to cry once more. The only time she got any peace was when she was sleeping and could dream about being with her brother.

This only caused her parents to become more irritable. They decided what was best for their remaining child after much discussion and fighting.

"You know we have been arguing a lot lately since your brother...passed." Her father said in a bored tone that bordered on monotone.

"Mainly it is what we should do with you now that we are becoming increasingly busy with work. You are obviously not going to come out of this any time soon and we think you need a push in the right direction." Her mother explained while keeping her eyes on her tablet in front of her. They both were acting like they could care less and she thought that was the case.

Both of them had sent a maid to her room to summon her after she had left her bathroom. She was still drying her hair as the maid told her that she was to meet her parents in the dining room. It had surprised her considering the last time she had been summoned before them both was whenever they announced they would be leaving for a week to do business. That had been two weeks ago.

She stayed quiet as they paused. It was as if they expected her to finally say something in her own defense. They would get no answer from her. Her lips clamped shut tightly, becoming a thin line.

Her father cleared his throat before setting down his tea cup, the light clattering noise filling the silence before his lips parted to speak once more. "You will be leaving tomorrow to live in our vacation home in Japan. A maid, chauffeur, and cook will be provided for you. We will be sending you money weekly in order for you to sustain yourself and pay for schooling."

Her red-brown eyes widened slowly as he spoke, her lips parting as he mentioned school. How long had it been since she had attended classes much less left the house? How did they expect her to just up and leave?

Her mother finally looked up from the tablet that always seemed to be glued to her hand. The look she gave her matched her father's bored voice as she spoke once more,"You will be expected to attend school or your weekly allowance will be cut off."

Camille found her hands gripping the fabric of her shirt she wore. The fabric wrinkled under their abuse as she inhaled sharply. Her head bowed while her eyes fixated on her bare feet, her long ruby red hair falling over her shoulders to mask her expression.

"You start at Ouran Academy Monday. You class schedule and uniform will be presented upon arrival." Her mother breathed before they both became quiet once more.

She took this time to turn on her heel and bring her head up, tears cascading down her cheeks as she left the dining room. She ran down the halls to her room and slammed the door shut behind her after she entered the only space she felt at home in. Her body connected with the floor hard as she tripped over her own feet in a clumsy moment that had been caused by her clouded vision. Without the energy to get up, Camille stayed laying on the floor until all of her tears had dried up.

The next morning, neither of her parents were there to see her off to the airport where she would board the plane to a country she could only remember in bits and pieces.
