Part Five

Allon practically jumped off the carriage and bolted into the old wise lady's house. The woman saw the teens distress, and sat her down at the table. Allon was offered water, but was too choked up on sobbs to even think about taking a sip. She poured her tale out to the woman. She given sympathy. Until she mentioned Shane and how she had befriended him.

Giants were dangerous to all creatures... except witches. The old lady was drained of all sympathy and care for Allon. Only a witch could tame a creature so deadly. Witches were forbidden to live amongst humans, for they were evil, and no evil has ever brought a person good. Allon was confused, the old woman glaring at her with hatred.

The old lady screamed out the window, calling out that a witch was invading her home. Not a minute later, Allon was being restrained by two of the towns strongest men. Once again, Allon was betrayed by someone she trusted. She was dragged from the house, the men wrapping hard, steel chains around her limbs, digging into her.

They brought her into the small prison of the village and carelessly tossed her into a cell. The door was slammed shut and locked, casting her into near complete darkness, the only light being cast from a small window where the moon shed in. The ground was cold and wet from the rain, but she didn't bother to sit up. Even if she wanted to, she couldn't. The chains wouldn't allow her to move.

Her ear twitched at the sound of footsteps. She hoped for it to be Ash or Kat, but no one entered the room. It was odd. Allon couldn't see anything, but there was definitely a presence with Allon in the cell. The footsteps halted, but a new noise echoed off of the stone bricks: The soft spout of wind. Allon blinked tiredly and tried to see who was there, but was only met with shadows. They moved around Allon in unnatural fashion before seeping into the chains. The metal strangly felt lighter, as if it wasn't even there.

A quick glance of the eye would show that the restricting chains were letting off an odd blue light. Allons eyes widened as they absorbed themselves into her skin. It didn't hurt, but it was a far from normal feeling. Allon shuddered as they sat up, sudden strength overtaking her usually weak stature. She looked up as the odd shadows formed themselves into the shape of a person, one that resembled Allon closely.

Not a word was spoken between them, but none was needed. Allon slowly stood to her feet, finding it much easier than previous times. Whatever the strange creature of shadow was, it had helped her. She watched as it dispersed back into the corners of the room. She blinked before lying back down on the stone floor. It was uncomfortable, but it was better than being tied up. She managed to fall asleep, but it took quite some time.

Footsteps echoed down the hall of the prison. Allon turned to the door as it swung open, the same two men that threw the kid in there standing in the entryway. Allon couldn't help but glare. The two seemed a bit startled by the missing chains, but walked in anyways. Each grabbed one of Allons arms roughly, dragging her outside and to a place that made her skin crawl. The gallows.

Thump thump.

They marched her up the stairs.

Thump thump.

People gathered around to watch.

Thump thump.

They yelled out in triumph.

Thump thump.

They slid the rope around her neck.

Thump thump thump thump.

The wood under her creaked. The old woman reached for the lever, but then an ear piercing roar ripped through the sky. Allon's head snapped up at the noise, startled. Hope sparked in her chest as her eyes landed on her giant. Shane bounded forward and into the little village, tail flicking about in anger. He charged toward the crowd, provoking them to disperse in a panic. He cut the rope around Allons neck and lifted her up into his hand.

He roared again as he ran into the forest, away from the villagers before they could counter attack. It didn't take long to get away, seeing as he was a giant. He ran back to his home, keeping Allon close.

For the next span of moons, Shane watched over Allon. He treated her as if she was his own. Whenever she went outside, he went outside. If she wanted to play fight, he'd let her win. If she was threatened, he'd form a protective barrier. That's how things went for a time.

Many moons since Allon's rescue, things felt off. Allon wasn't sure what, but something was going to happen that day. She was outside, sitting in the grass with Shane a few feet away. The surrounding forest was unnaturally quiet, sending a shiver down her spine. She would glance around the treeline and bushes, but nothing caught her eye. It was getting to be too much for her. She started to stand to go back inside, or at least closer to Shane, but then something stopped her. Out of the corner of her eye, something moved. She turned her head and gasped, frozen for a moment.

The two men from the village were dashing towards her. More villagers came from her side, these people being ones from her hometown. A hand came round from behind and slipped over her mouth as she tried to scream. It wasn't much, but it was enough. Shane's head popped off the ground as he checked on Allon, turning hostile at the sight of the attack.

Allon was panicking, unable to see due to the adrenaline making her vision blurry. She struggled violently, heaving with effort. The men were dragging her towards the brush roughly. Shane came down upon them, sending the men flying as he tossed them. He went to scoop up Allon, but then a heavy force came down on his back. He roared out in pain and collapsed onto the grass floor, unable to get back up.

A monstrous roar shattered the ears of everyone nearby as powerful wings beat at the air furiously. Allon looked up in horror to see a large dragon with red and gold scales, violet eyes and torn wings. She stumbled back in shock, not knowing what to do. The beast moved its head down and gripped Shane's neck between its teeth before snapping its jaws shut. Blood spilt from his neck and even dribbled from his mouth. His hand weakly reached out for Allon, but it fell limp before it could reach her. The life in his eyes faded away, replaced by a glassy glaze.

He was gone and Allon knew it. The only one left that had cared for her was now dead and she was alone. The dragon moved on to work at picking off the villagers who were throwing spears and magica. Allons eyes teared up when she saw two familiar figures among the corpses in the dragon's wake.

Kat and Ash.

Dark emotions took over her chest and mind. Tears began to fall down her cheeks, hatred burning in her chest. Allon couldn't take it anymore. Why was this happening? Why couldn't her life just be normal? Why must she hurt?

She shakily swallowed and spun around, darting into the now vacant home. She dodged and weaved around walls and furniture until she reached the bedroom. It took time, but she managed to climb to the top of the bed.

She wasn't alone, though. Allon pulled herself over the sheets and found herself staring at a figure. It was the shadow creature from the cell. It moved towards her, giving her sight of a pair of glowing blue eyes and a glowing blue mouth. It grinned disgustingly at her and knelt down next to her.

"You can feel it, can't you" The shadow whispered into her ear. It sounded taunting; as if it knew something that she didn't. She panted and tried to move away, but she found herself immobile.

"You can feel the hatred. All of those negative thoughts swimming around in your fragile mind," Allon slowly stopped panting, surprised to find that she was calm and even felt relaxed.

"I can fix what has been done. I can help you gain the power you need to survive. You'll be free. You'll be back with your sister, your lover, and even that knockie of yours," The shadow was right in Allons face. She couldn't see anything other than that sinister grin.

"All I need is one little thing from you in return," Allon shuddered. The shadows brushed against her and made her feel cold. She felt tired; drained. Her eyes drooped.

"We need to be one, or else you shall perish with spilt blood upon your families graves. Your mortality shall disappear and you shall have power for all of eternity," Allon closed her eyes and thought. Power means respect and safety. No more hurting or worry. It sounded perfect to her. She nodded and opened her eyes, looking at the spirit straight on.

A devilish grin swooned across the shadows as it moved towards Allon, seeping into her skin. Almost immediately, a large surge of strength shot through her. She cried out in pain and jerked about violently. It felt as if she were melting, but then a burning weight settled on her back. Her screams turned into breathless gasps of air as she painfully turned her head to see behind her.

Two enormous green wings had sprouted from her back and she could see the bones inside of them through blurry vision. Her hands went numb as they transformed into shadow-like paws. She watched as the world decreased in size monumentally.

Allon panted as the hurt faded away, feeling drained again. As they caught their breath, the feeling of strength returned, but this time without the pain. They stood up and noticed that they could see above the bed. They weren't quite the size of Shane, but they were close.

They took a shaky step and stumbled a bit. They walked around the room a little as they got used to the new feeling of the gliders on their back. They knocked some stuff over by mistake, finding their new found power to be a bit of burden. They awkwardly went out the door and outside.

To their surprise, nothing was moving. Everything was frozen in place. They walked past the body of Shane and looked at it. They frowned and forced themselves to keep walking, frowning again at Kat and Ash's blood drenched corpses.

They kept walking and blinked at the sudden urge to fly. They gave their wings a little test flap. It should have felt odd, but they found it strangly natural. They took off into the air and flew up. Higher and higher they went uuntil the blue of the sky turned into the darkness of space. They turned and hovered in the air, looking down at the planet. It was then that the voice played through their head.

"Look at this place. This pitiful, pathetic planet. Liberate the people, take them away to someplace better," The voice spat the words, echoing through Allon with power. They obeyed, their eyes glowing into a green death. The planet was soon enveloped in a sheen of light. Allon watched as it all slowly turned red, every life on the planet disappearing into their magic core. They were dead, every last person.

"Yes, now absorb them; make their lives your power," the voice said with haste. Allon didn't know what, but something told them that they shouldn't; that this was wrong. They went against the commands of the spirit and began to fly away from the planet, their eyes still glowing. They came across a dead planet. This would have to do.

Allon raised their hands as they were enveloped by magica. The dead planet began to show clouds. They were dark grey and occasionally would light up with yellow strings. Water rained down and formed oceans, rivers and lakes. The clouds dispersed as green began to appear on the bits of land above the water. Allon looked on as life spread across the surface. It was then that they pulled the spirits of the Verocinians to the planet, giving them new life.

Humans began to walk around and build with false memories. Allon would not let them remember the horrors of the old planet. In a fit of rage, the Origin of Death within them made a gateway. It was where it dragged the souls of the ones of wrong. Allons holy form stripped by the spirit. This should have killed the teen, but they latched onto the power. They would not let the spirit wrong others. Through the little power that they had left, they contorted the spirit into a new form.

It took on the shape of a small skull pin. Allon held onto it as they landed upon the earth. They ran around the growing cities, searching for the one they wanted to make right with. They found her at the end of a small town, singing a little tune as she widdled a piece of wood into the shape of a small fox.

Allon stepped forward and approached her with a weak smile. This caught her attention. She set down her widdler knife and little statue before standing up. She walked towards Allon, meeting them halfway.

"Hello, Kat."
