It was about 10:00 by the time I showed at Gracie's. I knocked on the door and waited for her to answer. "Hey JJ." Gracie said looking even more tired than she ever has. She looked at me for a second. "JJ what's wrong?" Gracie asked stepping aside to let me walk in. "Mom and Dad left and Matt kicked me out. All he gave me was five bucks." is all I said before i started crying. "That's horrible." she said grabbing one of the bags from me to take me to a room that was going to be mine. "Come on let's take you to your room." Gracie said giving me a hug and walking upstairs with me close behind. "This is going to be your room. It's not much but it's a warm bed to sleep in and a roof over your head." Gracie said opening a door and turning on the light. "Thanks Gracie." is all I could say. That's all I really knew to say. I mean really. What do you say to the person who works really hard to keep their house, then lets you move in. what can you say to them? Then there was knocking at the door. "I'll get it." Gracie said running downstairs to the door. "Hey Steve." I heard Gracie say from downstairs while I started unpacking my cloths. The next thing I heard kinda of shocked me. "My parents. I can't take it anymore. Can I move in here?" Steve asked Gracie. "Yes of course you can. You know that. Come on." Gracie said before walking up the stairs with Steve behind her. "Here Steve I hope this room works." She said walking into the room across the hall from mine. "Oh yeah it's perfect." Steve said. I could tell he felt the same way I did. "JJ is also moving in with me." Gracie said to Steve as he sat down on the bed. "She is?" Steve asked with a little bit of excitement in his voice. "Yeah she is right across the hall." Gracie said before I heard Steve's big boots run across the hall and into my room. "Hey guys look I gotta go to work at the diner. Don't wait up for me." Gracie said walking down the stairs and out the door we heard her car start and take off. "So what happened?" Steve asked me while I kept unpacking my cloths. "My parents left and Matt kicked me out." I said. Steve's icy green eyes flickered with anger. "So what about you?" I asked. "My parents kicked me out and they also kinda got to me." Steve sad with a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Oh" I said getting quiet. "Well let's not let them slow us down. Today is the first day of a new life for us." I said with a half-smile hoping Steve would agree. "Your right. Ya know what tomorrow we need to start looking for jobs to help Gracie out." Steve said. "That sounds great. It's getting late-ish why don't we change into our pjs and watch a movie and finish unpacking tomorrow." I said with a small smile. Steve agreed and took off into his room to go change.
