I Fell For You. Sorry, My Mistake
Beyond the horizon, the sun illuminated the shimmering haze of pollution. In the far distance, the silhouette of the skyline pierced through the warm glow like a jagged mountain ridge. Millions of lights caused the dense mass of skyscrapers glitter. Tyler rested his forearms against the railing and stared into the distance, more and more shiny specks appeared in the distance punching holes in the black horizontal stripe. He decided to take a little break after two hours of staring at pieces of paper. The search for his watch was fruitless, Tyler accepted the fact that he will never find it. Josh probably threw it away already.
The cityscape was a jumble of shapes like a child had cast blocks down randomly and then swept them so close together they touched. Tyler was captivated by the mass of blinking colours, it split the horizon contrasting against nature's colours. Like a microchip grossly enlarged, edged in between two dark earthly colours.
The boy rested his chin on his palms, the distant hum of the city was calming, the nature surrounding them absorbed the noise, the boy didn't have to listen to the screeching of homeless cats and druggies fighting over a speck of food they found in the dumpsters. Where Tyler lived, there was so much noise, so much disturbance. The apartment's walls were paper thin, even with his head suffocating under the pillow he could still hear the obnoxious sounds from the outside.
Ah, the rich suburbs. Evey middle to low class person's wet dream. Rows of newly built, modern houses that had way too many rooms. One house could fit two small families and their dogs. Hell, maybe even the weird cousin could move in and lie in the attic. Tyler couldn't wrap his head around why people lived in literal mansions all by themselves, occupied three rooms while the rest of them collect dust.
Josh's house was a little smaller than the rest in the neighbourhood. But it sure as hell wasn't small either. The man had a freaking hot tub in the backyard as if the swimming pool wasn't enough. Tyler wanted to ask the man if he could dip in but that would've been weird even for him. Oh, but it was so inviting. Tyler imagined the hot water enveloping his body and the relaxing bubbling soothing his skin.
"Hey," the balcony door slid open "Do you need a ride home?"
"Nah," Tyler shook his head and rose from his seat "I'll walk."
Josh chuckled and gestured Tyler to come with him. The boy sighed and entered the house again, no matter how pretty the cityscape was he had to go back home. Tyler wanted to ask Josh if he needed any more help but his question was pushed back by a chuckle. Josh glanced at Tyler confused. The boy cleared his throat.
"What?"
"Oh, it's..." Tyler moved his gaze away It's nothing."
"Oh, come on." Josh grinned "Tell me."
"You're gonna wear that?" Tyler stared Josh down "On a date?"
"What's wrong with my clothes?" Josh murmured, he rubbed his forearm nervously
"Okay, first of all, wear something... I don't know." Tyler lightly tapped the bridge of his nose "Fancier? I mean come on, a sweater and dress shirt? At least lose the sweater."
Josh sighed and quickly pulled the sweater over his head. The shirt lifted up as the man stretched exposing a little bit of his stomach. Tyler clenched his fingers into two sweaty fists. Josh certainly did not skip the ab day once. Noice.
"Better?" Josh smoothed down his shirt
"Button it down and you're Gucci." Tyler clicked his tongue as he pointed finger guns at the man
"Wow, look at you, such a fashionista." Josh chuckled softly
"I am your sassy gay friend who has a better sense of fashion than you." Tyler placed his hand on his hip and smiled cockily "Hunty."
"I wish I was like you." A soft smile curled the corner of Josh's lips
"What, gay?" Tyler snorted
"No-" Josh rolled his eyes "I wish I was so easy-going like you."
"You're not?"
"No, Tyler, I am not." Josh clutched his coat "I have major anxiety and being a youth counsellor can sometimes be a real bitch. Public speaking and all."
Tyler nodded inaudibly and followed Josh out the door. The man just grinned when Tyler sassed him about the jammed car door. It was dark, Tyler didn't notice his smile. They sat in the car sharing comfortable silence, a serene tune was playing on the radio.
"So," Tyler turned to the man "Where are you taking her?"
"Oh, um..." Josh sighed "The... The restaurant, I guess."
"Dude..." Tyler shook his head disapprovingly
"It's her birthday and I suck at surprises, okay?" Josh sighed "I wish I wasn't a basic bitch."
"You really suck at dates, my dude." Tyler shook his head again "Does your present suck as much as your dinner location?"
"No," Josh reached into his inner pocket and handed Tyler a rectangular velvet box without taking his eyes off the road
Tyler quickly opened and his eyes almost popped right out of his skull. A sparkling diamond necklace laid on soft blood-red silk. Tyler counted at least ten bigger diamonds and a couple of smaller ones. The brunet let out a soft sigh and carefully closed the box.
"Do you have a pen?" the boy asked
"It's in the glove compartment." Josh murmured
The boy grabbed a random piece of paper and quickly scribbled an address. He stuffed the paper into the pocket of Josh's coat and put the pen back.
"What's that?" the man questioned
"Take her there instead of your boring restaurant." Tyler murmured "After twelve they play slow music, take her dancing in their garden."
"I don't trust this." Josh let out a nervous chuckle
"Trust me, that place is great," a shaky breath left Tyler's lings "She'll love it."
"Okay, I trust you but...." Josh trailed off "I can't dance."
Tyler facepalmed himself and rolled his eyes so hard that he was able to take a glimpse at the future, and it was boring.
"God, you suck so much." Tyler muttered under his breath "Pull over."
"What?"
"Pull over!" Tyler yapped
Josh slammed the brakes and stopped at the side of the road. Tyler jumped out of the car.
"Tyler-" Josh yelped as the boy yanked him out of the car
The brunet didn't say anything, he shoved the man aside and shuffled through the radio stations. Josh just stood there confused and a little bit scared.
"Perfect." the boy murmured to himself and turned up the volume, a sad melody emitted from the radio.
Use headphones.
And no, I didn't get this from 13rw, I discovered this song like two years ago.
13rw can succ my ass.
"What are you-" Josh had no other choice but to tumble after the boy
"I'm gonna teach you to dance." Tyler exclaimed and grasped Josh's hand in a violent manner "Grab my waist."
"I don't think this is..." the older man inhaled sharply when Tyler laid Josh's palm on his waist by himself "Fine."
Tyler's hand positioned itself on Josh's broad shoulder, the man hesitated before intertwining his fingers with the younger boy's.
"You're supposed to lead." Tyler murmured, his face flushing red
Josh took an unwilling step forward, Tyler slowly moved back. Josh let out a breathy chuckle, his fingers gripped Tyler's waist tighter. The streetlights bathed them both in a deep golden hue, Josh guided Tyler slowly, still doubtful about his movements. Tyler gazed Josh in the eyes, even in such poor lighting, he could see the delicate smile gracing Josh's lips.
Josh's finger's against Tyler's ribs twitched, the man opened his lips, Tyler lifted his head up and slowly got on his tippy toes. Josh's feet that were dancing to the slow rhythm a second ago stopped. Tyler's heartbeat rose, the warmth of Josh's body was like a spell keeping him close, unable to move away. The man's grip on Tyler's hand slowly loosened up, he repositioned it to the brunet's waist. Tyler's gaze flickered, he shyly placed both of his palms against the older man's chest and leaned in. His cheek made contact with the fabric of Josh's shirt, it smelled like soap and Josh's cologne. The boy inhaled the scent afraid that he'll never get this close again.
Josh flinched, his grip suddenly loosened up, their bodies moved away breaking the embrace. Tyler felt the bitter taste of disappointment on his tongue.
Josh flashed him a crooked smile, Tyler glanced down because he couldn't let the man see the tears brimming his brown eyes.
"I'll walk from here," Tyler muttered
"Tyler, I can drive y-"
"I'll walk." Tyler cut the man off
He sighed.
"Okay. Stay safe."
The boy nodded, Josh eyed him down, a wrinkle of worry carved his forehead. The brunet rocked back and forth waiting for the man to get in his damn car. Why was he just staring at him?
Finally, he turned around. Tyler let out a relieved sigh.
"Hey, Ty?"
Tyler glanced at the man through the mist coating his eyes.
"Thank you."
"Anytime, Josh."
