Chapter 6: Show and Tell. With Imagination
(The next morning.)
Marcella brushed Ella's soft hair, getting ready for school. Today was show and tell day at school, and Marcella was excited to show everyone the new doll that she got. "Hmm.. I wonder if one of Babette's outfits would fit you." She finished brushing her hair and adjusting her new red bow. "Now where did I put it?" Marcella searched a box full of outfits and found a green one that she loved and puts it on Ella. She puts on the bonnet and gave Ella her parasol. "It's perfect."
(Here's what it looks like.)
"Come on Marcella. It's almost time to go." Her mother calls to her and Marcella goes to leave. "Alright, me and Ella will be back soon guys." Marcella talks to the other dolls and leaves the playroom, carrying Ella gently as to not hurt her. The bus comes and she gets onto the bus, sitting in her normal seat near the window. As they pass by the neighborhood, Ella sees many things around her. Trees, clouds, the sky. It was all so beautiful. The bus passes by a puddle and splashes it. Marcella giggles as her hand pulls on her pull string as Ella spoke another one of her phrases. "Puddles are no fun. I hate getting wet in my own clothes."
One of Marcella's friends comes on the bus and sits down next to her. "Hey there Marcella. Who did you bring for show and tell today?" Marcella shows her the cute porcelain doll. "This is Ella, Sarah. I found her lost in my backyard yesterday." Sarah looked at her cracks. "Oh no. Did you find her like this? I know you wouldn't break a doll on purpose." "Yeah, but I think mom fixed the eye when she got off from work." She held onto her gently. "I love Ella, she's such a sweet little doll. I don't get why someone would hurt her like what happened."
(Later)
It was after lunch, and all of the kids came back with their items to show for the class. The teacher comes in and clapped her hands together. "Alright class. It's time to start our show and tell day. So who would like to go first and show us what they brought?" Marcella raised her hand and the teacher points to her. "Okay Marcella, what did you bring to us today? That looks like a very cute doll." Marcella comes up to the class and held her up. "This is Ella Sugarcoat, a porcelain doll that I found in my backyard. She was lost until I found her and took her in as my own. I think the other dolls that I have already love her." One kid raised his hand and asked "Where specifically?" "It was near a pile of leaves. Along with some accessories."
The teacher looked at her when she said the doll's name. She had read the news about the doll robbery and how the owner is looking for Ella. But she saw how Marcella looked so happy with Ella, and how she was taking good care of her. The teacher decided not to say anything about that. "Well Ella sure looks cute Marcella. Thank you for sharing with us." Marcella went back to her seat and sits Ella on her lap. "Alright? Who's next?" The teacher asked the class as the day went onward.
(After school.)
Marcella sets Ella down next to Andy and went downstairs to do some homework. The dolls all come to life and Andy looked to Ella, noticing that they were kind of close. Blushing out of embarrassment, he looked away as Ann gets down from the rocking chair. "Oh Ella. How was your day out with Marcella at school?" Ella closes her parasol and props it up. "It was really beautiful.. I don't think I've ever felt so.. happy." She finally cracked a little smile as Babette notices it first, speaking with her lovely accent. "There's the missing smile. You really are finding yourself again." The other dolls gathered around and sat down. "You know, it's kind of sad that some of us can barely see the world outside." Barney Beanbag looked to the window.
Ella noticed their down spirits and thought of a quick idea. "The outside world can be anything you want it to be. As long as you use imagination." "Imagination?" Socko asked her and Ella nodded. "Mmhmm. With a happy mind and a heart of gold, anything is possible to see around you." The Captain comes over to see what all the commotion was about, and Ella looked at him, getting a bit jumpy. "Oh, that's the captain of the playroom snowglobe, Ella." Ann tells the jumpy doll as Ella hesitantly held out a hand. "Aye! Hello there Ella. I feel quite shamed we haven't- Ah.. ah... Aachoo!! Met before." The captain sneezed as Ella blinked. "Well excuse you, captain. Anyway.. I think I know a song to make you imagine the outside world." Everyone listened as she began to sing.
"You can see with your heart! So make the dark clouds depart!" Raggedy Ann gave a cute smile as Ella's words flowed through her. It felt like an angel. "Dream sweet dreams, and I promise you.. Your heart will see them all come true." The dolls, especially Andy were mesmerized by the melody that they swayed along to her melody. Andy began to think to himself 'Wow.. This is really sweet. Come on, Andy. You can't be showing your soft side. Not now at least.' His thoughts wandered while Ella continued. "Let your imagination unfold, the world for you to behold! All you need is some faith to start, when.. You can see with your heart!"
(Later that night.)
Ella sat down in the windowsill, looking up at the stars and the moon, back in her normal outfit. She always was more comfortable staying in the windowsill because of her fear of the dark. She draws out a pattern in the stars and imagines it as her old owner. "I hope we can see each other again.." She whispers softly, resting her head on her knees. Andy decided to make things right about his reaction to her the day before as he came up to the windowsill and sat down next to her. "Um.. Ella? I wanted to apologize for our rough start. I just have mixed feelings about new dolls." Ella turned to him and cracked another smile. "You're fine Andy. I get it, new friends aren't for everyone.. Though it does get a bit lonely up here by myself."
"I'll stay.. but it's only for tonight. Try not to get used to it.." He grumbled, hiding his face as Ella laughed a bit. "Okay, tough guy, keep your secrets." She playfully poked his hat as they watched the stars together, glancing at the moon once in a while.
