Chapter 4: The Raggedy's Meet Ella.
After Marcella left, all of the dolls come to life and Raggedy Ann looked around while on the rocking chair. "Grandpa.. Is Marcella gone? For sure?" She asked in a soft and sweet tone of voice. Grandpa got up and went to check and when the coast was clear, he gave a nod. "Yep! The coast is clear Annie!" Raggedy Ann got off of the rocking chair. "Oh goodie! Isn't this exciting? We have a new doll joining us. Ella is such a sweet name." The dolls all go over to the windowsill and then Ann counted heads, seeing someone missing. "Hey, where'd Andy go?"
Raggedy Andy came out from the corner and walked over. "What a relief. I was for sure that Marcella would never leave! This is just what we need.. Another doll around these parts." "Now now Andy. You be nice to her.. Marcella said she's sensitive." Babette scolds the male rag doll in her strong French accent, tapping his hat with her fancy fan. Andy held his head from the tap. "Ouch, okay." He grumbled before hearing noises coming from behind the curtains, and they were not happy at all.
"Oh the poor thing sounds upset.." Raggedy Ann climbs up and sees Ella, sitting down and crying into her hands. She tapped her shoulder and Ella turned, still covering her scars. "Please don't hurt me." She whimpered and Ann pouts. "Oh don't cry. We're not gonna hurt you. Marcella is going to love you, she's the sweetest girl you will ever meet." Ann reassured her and Ella removed her hands away from her face, showing her missing eye and cracks all over her face. "O-oh. What happened to you?" Ann asked, feeling worried for her. "This? I was beaten around by my old owner and his many kids.."
Raggedy Ann picked her up. "That's terrible. You'll be okay here. Come on, I'll introduce you to everybody else." The two of them climbed down from the windowsill very gently and the other dolls watch them come down. "I'm Raggedy Ann, and these are the nursery dolls. This here is my brother, Raggedy Andy." Raggedy Andy looked at Ella and approached her. "Hello.. I guess." He held out a hand and Ella hesitantly took it and shakes his hand. "We have the twin penny dolls, Grandpa, Maxi Fix-it, Susie Pincushion, Barney Beanbag, Babette, The Captain, and this here is the Camel." The camel greeted her and shows her his wrinkled knees. "With wrinkled knees."
"Welcome new doll! Welcome, How are you? We're so happy that you're here. New friends are oh. so. neat, and now we consider you oh. so. dear! Woooooooooaaaah Woah!" The twin penny dolls chimed, their eyes rolling around and Ella blinked with her only working eye. "What are you?" She asked them and Raggedy Ann giggles "We're dolls! Like you!" She then began to sing to her to try and calm her down. "All of us live in the nursery. All of us different as we can be. Some of us plump, some of us thin. Some who are sad and some who always grin." Ella stopped being tense, finally warming up, but still having her lost smile. "Everyone's here to welcome you, and all I want to say is really simple.. plain and true."
"But.. Who are you?" Ella asked Raggedy Ann cupped her doll hands together. "I'm just a rag dolly.. Happy and smiling all day. A little rag dolly.. Wishing your worries away. I stop and say 'Golly! This is too good to be true!' A little rag dolly, plain as can be, has a new friend that's as sweet, just like you." She bowed to her and Ella tilted her head, almost confused, but understanding. "W-wow.. You're just like the friends I had back at my old shop." "Really? What did they look like?" Babette asked her, looking at her parasol. "One was a cowboy, the other was a cute pastel lolita."
"She's just a rag dolly. Happy and smiling all day." Andy sang while dancing with his sister. "A lovely rag dolly, wishing your worries away. And I get so jolly, knowing it's funny but true. A little rag dolly, sweet as can be, could be friends with a dolly like you." Ella hummed along and then the other dolls joined together in song. "She's just a rag dolly!! Happy and smiling all day! A little rag dolly! Wishing those worries away! And we say 'Oh Golly! This is too good to be true!" Finally Ella caved in and sang a verse. "Two lovely rag dollies! Sweet as can be, have a friend that's as charming! That's me!"
