Chapter 2: Robbed of Happiness

(A couple of months later)

A few young kids were on vacation with their father when they pass by the shop and look at Ella standing there in the display window. Her lavender southern belle dress, the shoes, the hat.. she was perfect for them. "Daddy! I want that doll right there." The eldest of the group, 8, pointed to the doll. "Well if it's what my darling wants, it's what she wants." They all walked into the store and walked up to the counter. "Excuse me sir. How much is the southern belle doll in the window?" He asked him and took out his wallet. "I'm sorry sir. More recent dolls aren't for sale till the third month after being made. " Bertie told the man. The eldest got sad, but understood why she won't get her. "I understand sir. Then I'll get the-" "No no. You wanted this doll right?" The father asked his little girl. "Dad, please don't cause a scene, okay? Let's just go then. The vacation is almost over anyway."

The family walked out and the younger kids started to get upset about it. They liked the doll and wanted it badly. He was tired of them being told no, and it ate him from the inside. "Oh I'll get that doll alright.." He muttered, thinking of a plan to get the doll right in his own hands. The 6 of them head for the park for a day out together. Meanwhile, Bertie was getting ready to go on break. "Alright. I'll be back after my lunch break." He looked to the dolls before shutting the curtains and closing the door, putting his 'out to lunch' sign on the door. Ella came to life once again and looked to the other dolls. "What was that all about?"

"That there is your ordinary example of a man who can't say no to his kids Ella." The disco doll told her as she scratched her head. "Hmm?" She looked confused before the cowboy spoke up again. "He thinks that he can buy whatever is seen in front of him just to satisfy the needs of his children. You're lucky you dodged that kind of bullet. Who knows what would have happened after that?" Ella gave an uneasy chuckle before the dolls played some games with each other, trying on some of the pre-made accessories.

(8:00 pm..)

The family was at the airport paying for their tickets and putting their luggage on the conveyor belt. Suddenly, the father had an idea. "Hey, I think I might have forgot something at the hotel. It won't take me long to get it." "Well you better be wise about it dear, the plane leaves at midnight. The kids and I will rest up while you go get whatever it is you're collecting." The mother tells him off a bit and he nodded before leaving the airport and getting into a taxi. "Where are you off to sir?" The taxi driver asked the man and he spoke. "To Bertie's Porcelain Emporium, please." He puts on a ski mask and gloves and the taxi driver went to the doll shop, an hour before it was going to close.

After the cab was out of sight, the man got out a knife and then walked into the shop, yelling at Bertie. "GIVE ME THE MONEY AND THE DOLL!!" He shouts at Bertie as he began putting money into a bag. "A-alright sir! W-which one though?" He asked him before the man pointed at Ella. "That one! Give me it and no one gets hurt!" Bertie quickly handed Ella over to the man as he broke the windows on the way out. He stabbed the man's hand while running away. Police were on the scene in an instant as they began a high speed chase to the airport. The man rushes his family onto the plane as it was boarding and they took off.

(Meanwhile.)

"So Mr. Winston, can you tell us what the robber looked like?" One of the officers asked Bertie while a doctor treated his hand wound and Bertie began to tell him. "Well he was around the 5'10"-6'0" range. He had brown eyes and was wearing a ski mask. Grey to be exact. He had on a jean jacket with a Led Zeppelin shirt, brown slacks and white dress shoes.." The police officer drew the description on the robber and when he was finished, he turned the sketch around. "Is this the man sir?" "Oh god, yeah that's him!" Bertie yelped, flinching. "Easy now, Mr. Winston. I don't want to mess up the stitching." The doctor finishes the stitches and the cops looked at each other. "Don't worry. We will catch this robber for you as best as we can."
