Chapter 1: A Paint Job Done Right.

(Manhattan, New York. February 14th, 1976.)

It was a cloudy day in Manhattan. The wind was at a slow but cool speed, the sun was peeking out with some huge clouds here and there. It was also a slow day for the nearest porcelain doll shop owned by none other than Bertie Winston. He was working on one of his latest items for his shop. "Hmm.. What am I missing now?" He looked at the girl doll he was working on. She had brown hair the color of a chocolate bar, glassy green eyes the shade of emeralds and her tone was as toned like cream. The detailing looked almost realistic for a porcelain doll her size.

Bertie looked closer as he tested the pull string on her back. He pulled and the doll spoke a phrase from her voice chip. "Care for some tea, friend?" Her chirpy voice said with her cutesy smile. "Aha! I got it." He looks through some of the accessories he had made recently and then found a nice sunhat and placed it on her head. Bertie also got out a doll sized parasol and placed it in her hands. "There you go. You look marvelous cutie. Now for the finishing touches." Bertie puts on the outfit specially made for the new doll and then painted on her smile.

"There you are. Now what did you say your name was again?" He thought while pulling the pull string again. "I'm Ella Sugarcoat. Let's be friends!" Her voice chip said and Bertie laughs heartily. "That's a perfect name for a doll such as yourself." He brushed her long hair out and made some adjustments to it, cutting off some and then putting it in a low ponytail with a blue ribbon. He got out a doll stand and sets her in it before putting her in the display window. "You have plenty of time before you find your forever home, sweetheart."

(Later that night)

Bertie finishes cleaning up the place and closed the curtains in the front. "Goodnight my little dolls. I'll see you all tomorrow." He waved goodbye and left the place, locking the door on his way out. When he left, a little magic made Ella come to life. She blinks her eyes and looked around the shop. "Woah.. This place is filled with dolls and doll accessories." She climbs out of her doll stand and walked around. She had glittery red heels that sparkled when she moved around. The whole store was hers to explore for the night. She was so excited and she sat down on the stairs, looking around at the dimmed lights.

Ella closed her parasol and then sees some of the other dolls come to life as well. They come over to greet the new doll on their hands. "Hello there new doll! Welcome to the shop. You'll have plenty of company to play with." A wild west cowboy greeted her first and then another one came up to her. It was a pastel lolita doll. "Hey there. You must be Ella! It's such a good, good, good honor to meet you!" She shook her doll hand and Ella shook it back. Her smile gave the other two a smile as big. "I'm just happy that I can make you guys happy. For now, I'm going to be a display doll." "Being a display isn't a bad thing at all. You get to be shown what a man like our creator can really do, see?" The cowboy points to the other display dolls in the window. Ella gave a little laugh. "Yeah.. I guess it's not a bad thing." She continued to look around the store through the night, getting ready for the happy life ahead.. Or so she thinks..
