I have received your letter of the 31st of May,

which, and one other, are the only letters

I have received from you since your arrival

in America. Alas, to my dismay, this may be

one of the few letters you receive from me.

My apprenticeship from a carpenter pays me

very little, and my new bride requires my

undivided attention, as we both plan on

bringing children into this world. In your last

letter, you stated that you have joined the war.

As much as I wish to bid you a proper

farewell, I have nothing but words. My dear

brother, I wish you the best of luck, and I ask

you one request.

Stay alive for me.
