Chapter 4

WARNING: Deadnaming, misgendering, Daniel

Logan'd had enough. He stopped fiddling with the strap of his bag and pushed his glasses up his nose, looking up at the other people in the hall.

"Does anyone know what we're actually meant to be doing?" Logan asked. Janus looked up at him - glared at him would be more accurate - and his words wavered halfway through the sentence.

Janus continued to glare at him. "I don't know, Nerd." He said. "I think Freddie and his mate would want to keep us in the dark for as long as possible, anyway." Janus turned around in his seat, glaring at the door to the hall now. "Probably find it fun, the sick bastards."

"We should do something." Remus decided. Janus raised an eyebrow at him.

"Is your name 'Something'?" He asked.

"Shut up, Janus." Roman said. Janus looked at the back of his head.

"Sorry, I didn't catch that." He said. "Could you maybe look at me when you're speaking?"

Roman rolled his eyes and twisted round in his chair to face Janus. "I said, shut up, Janus." He said through gritted teeth.

"Oh, the great Roman remembered my name." Janus rolled his eyes. "I'm honoured. And no, don't think I will." He smirked at Roman. "You don't control my life anymore, Romano."

"Don't call me that." Roman snapped.

"Why not?" Janus asked, his head on one side. "Bring up bad memories? Well guess what, Roman." Janus' smirk faded. "The memories are a lot worse for me."

The door to the hall opened with a bang. Everyone except Virgil looked up and Remus paled considerably.

Freddie and Daniel. It shouldn't really have been a surprise that they were both supervising the detention. If you saw Freddie, you could damn well bet Daniel wasn't far behind. The only reason they'd never seen the inside of a detention hall themselves was because Daniel's mum turned a blind eye to everything her 'perfect' son and his friend did.

"Well, what've we got here?" Daniel asked, half to Freddie and half to the others. "Hm, this is interesting."

"Fuck off, Daniel." Remus called. Through all his bravado, his voice still wavered. Daniel ignored him.

"King of Hearts, Roman Winston," he said, as if noting it down, "and his lesser brother, Remus. Janus Dagger, wonderful that you could make it."

Janus glared at him. "Glad I could come." He said defiantly, sarcasm dripping from his tone. Daniel quirked a smile.

"Virgil Summers in the back. The King of Not Giving A Fuck and-" Daniel cut himself off when he saw Logan. "Interesting indeed. Amelia Brown, the only girl in this sea of boys."

Logan winced and looked down, colour rushing to his face. He wiped his eyes under his glasses quickly.

"Hey, fuck off." Remus snapped. Daniel looked at him.

"Sorry, what?"

"Fuck off." Remus repeated. "If you're going to bully us, fine, expected nothing better from you. But if you're going to bully Logan about the past, you're not gonna live to see tomorrow."

"Yeah." Janus joined in. "I'll take it as a personal pleasure to punch you so hard your teeth scratch your vocal chords."

"And I'll make sure you never have kids ever." Virgil chimed in from the back. "No one gets to be transphobic here."

Roman crossed his arms and looked at the wall. Daniel narrowed his eyes at them.

"Fine." He said. "Fine. All of you have just bought yourself another detention."

Now, Roman shot out of his seat. "You can't do that!" He said. "I've got dress rehearsal next Saturday."

Daniel laughed. "Guess you'll just have to cancel it." He said. "Anyway, to pass the time, each of you needs to write a thousand words on why you're here and why you deserve a day out of your free-time." He looked at Logan. "Real names only or it'll count as void."

"Logan is my real name." Logan said under his breath.

"What, sorry? Didn't catch that." Daniel said. Logan looked up at him before looking down again.

"Nothing." He muttered.

"That's what I thought." Daniel said. "Pencils and paper over there, me and Freddie are just outside the door."

"Wait a minute." Freddie said. He crossed to the back of the hall and grabbed Virgil's headphones out from under his hood. "Confiscated. Hand 'em over."

Virgil hissed at him and tried to snatch the headphones back. "Give them back!" He snapped.

"You'll get them back at the end of the day." Freddie said, grinning. "Remember," he called as he sauntered back to the front of the hall, "just outside."

There's just something about writing punchable characters, you know?
Bye,
Blaize
