Outside
Opening the door to the outside world felt so nice. I had missed the sun and its brightness, warming me up with every second I had been exposed to it.
My luck seemed to change suddenly when I spotted one of the farmers along with his wagon and horse in the market place. He seemed to be going on a long trip considering the amount of supplies he was purchasing. It was time for me to leave the town of Sanctus anyway. It had become too boring. I wanted more adventure.
"Veniam mihi, Domine? Excuse me, sir? I see you are going on a journey." I said to him.
"Yes Adolescens (Young man), You are correct. I've been traveling for a while. I'm hoping to return to my home soon. An ol' friend of mine had asked me to come visit him. He had some special crops he wanted to show me. I can tell you now, they weren't anywhere near special. Thought I might stop by the market to pick up some supplies before I made it back home." the man explained.
"How far will you be traveling, domine?" I asked him.
"Only two towns over. To the countryside of Dominum. I have a farm there with my beautiful wife Amata. Crops aren't the best this year but perhaps our luck will change."
"I actually was traveling to Dominum already but it will take me quite a long time on foot. I see you have a wagon and a horse. If it wouldn't trouble you too much, do you think that I could come along with you?" I sprinkled in a few lies.
"Oh, my dear boy. Where is your mother? Run along now. This is no place for a young boy like you." he laughed.
What right do you have to talk down to me like this old man?!
"Well you see. My mother is in Dominum. I've been trying to get there for the past week. I came here to get some medicine for her but someone stole the rest of the money I had. There is no way I can pay anyone to take me to her and I don't know how long she has left. Please, domine. I'm begging you to allow me to accompany you." I lied.
He took off his hat and scratched his balding head.
"Very well. It's not against my nature to help a person in need. I have to leave immediately though. You will probably have to sit in the wagon with the supplies if that is good enough for you." he said.
"Gratias tibi tanta domine! Thank you so much sir!" I said as I hopped into the wagon.
He wasn't kidding. The moment I sat in the wagon, the horse began pulling and we were off. It was a rather nice wagon for a farmer. It was painted black on the wooden wheels and on the outside. It even had a white cloth top to it. This made it very cool inside compared to the summer heat that was beating down on it. I looked out to see the dirt road disappearing under the wagon and the fields of wheat that passed us. I knew about where we were. It would be about a two hour trip by wagon but it would have taken me more than a day on foot. I could hear the horse's hoofs beat down on the trail. It was almost rhythmic. It made me feel sleepy. I didn't think it would be a bad thing if I did fall asleep until we got there. I grabbed one of the bags of wheat and lay my head down on it until finally, I drifted off.
