Died
Frith looked back and forth between the two men in front of him. The sanctuary was silent, but that seemed so much worse than the chaos that occurred earlier. Or was it chaos? No, it was more like a slaughter. No mercy, no thought, no humanity.
Blood did not coat the walls, but it covered the boy. The two men watched as the boy tripped over the bodies of the girls. He could not tell if they were still alive, but he truly wished that they were dead. Frith cried, screamed, and shook in front of the killers, but that did not matter. He was never meant to be a fighter or a warrior. The boy only dreamed of better days, and he knew now that he might be a casualty.
He never knew how little someone had until that day. How little sanity, defiance, and will a human being could have. It only took a beating for a young boy to break. His happiness was gone, and he began to regret everything that he has done.
If he never stood up, those men would have never broke down the door. They wouldn't have shot the girls as they grabbed his arm. What disturbed him the most was that his allies didn't even have the time to react; no words escaped their lips, and the last thoughts in their minds must have been shock.
"Frith is what the girl called you, correct?"One of the men said, "Is that what they called you? "
He could only nod.
"Why even ask its name? It doesn't deserve to have one,"the other whispered.
"That Switcher caused great uproar, Akin. She needs to be called something."
"Why? It's a criminal. A traitor. A terrorist! "
"She needs a name so people know who broke the law. She needs to be recognized so we can set an example."
Frith tried to crawl away, but the older man grabbed his feet. He was so weak against the soldier, and even if he had strength, it would be no use. A knife was on his hip along with a shining pistol. He could only guess the amount of people the man has killed, but he had a feeling that he wasn't on the list.
And that scared him even more.
It wasn't long until they dragged him to the Regime building. The pristine white walls gave a sickening, heavenly glow, and the boy wanted to run back to the safety of the shadows. The light shined on every aspect of his life, his mind, and his soul.
"Dreaming wasn't worth it, was it?"Akin taunted, "I mean, hell, dreams never come true. "
"I-I wanted...to-"Frith said, but the man's hand covered the boy's mouth.
"We all know what you wanted. You wanted to destroy this society. To destroy the Regime. You wanted something perfect to become flawed,"Akin shook his head as he dragged Frith into the building, "In here, you will be made an example of. No one will ever- do whatever you did. What did you name it? Protest? That is a silly word."
That was when the doors shut behind them, and darkness swallowed the boy for fifty years.
