Two: Jeremy
"Jeremy," I heard mom call for me. I went downstairs and went to her.
"Yes mom," I said. She was facing the stove then turned to me.
"Help me with dinner, dad's gonna be home soon," she said. I went to the cupboard and grabbed three plates and put them on the table, then grabbed spoons, forks, and knives putting them on the table as well. Just as I finished putting cups and paper towels on the table someone knocked on the door. I went to open the door and dads face was right there but his arms were completely full. I grabbed some bags off his arm and put them behind the couch as he came in and shut the door. I saw him put the stuff he had down and then gave me and mom a hug but her a quick peck on the lips.
"Dad, what's under that sheet?" I asked finally noticing a small sheet over something that looking square.
"Lift it up and find out." He said. I did as he said. It was a tank, empty, might I add, but it had in some small wood shaving, with a light brown log and a shredded snakeskin. I looked back at dad and see he is holding something. It's a snake. A King cobra. Mom screams because it's close to her and she hates snakes. She never really wanted me to have Rana but tolerated it because I love snakes and mom loves me.
"Oh my god, dad," I said surprised. He put the snake into the tank and closed the lid tightly, then stood back up.
"Why the hell did you bring that thing into this house?" Mom huffed angrily at dad. I slouched down to attempt to not be in this arguing match, even though I know dad is going to win this one.
"Because I think he will do great with this one, I mean, look how well he took care of Rana. What is the difference?" Dad said, shrugging his shoulders not taking an interest in the conversation.
"What's the difference?" Mom emphasized the word 'difference', now dad grew interested in the argument. "What's the difference, John? The difference is that Rana isn't poisonous or even a strangling machine and is small and not almost 6 feet long. That's your difference" Dad stood closer to mom and put his hands on her shoulders.
"Babe, he'll be fine, our son is a genius when it comes to these little guys. For your sake, though Jeremy and I both will make sure the Cobra stays in his tank, okay?" Dad said wrapping in there argument. Mom reluctantly nodded and dad gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before turning around, grabbing the tank and putting it in my room on the dresser next to Rana. Dad left, going downstairs, I stayed a bit longer and noticed that Rana and the Cobra were getting to know each other, but I couldn't understand snake language so I went downstairs to the dining room to eat.
"Jeremy," dad said. I looked up at him and he handed me something. It was a small box that was a red-brown. I opened it and found a ring. It was one of a King Cobra snake with ruby jewels as eyes. The scales are a smoky grey and the head of the Cobra on the ring is laying down but very detailed. On the inside of the ring, there is an engraving
Comandante, a menos que no sepas cómo usarlo, te usarán.
I don't know what language this is so I look at mom because she studied languages for a while until she quite.
"Mom, what language is this?" I asked, handing her the ring. She looked at it real close.
"Spanish, honey." She said and gave it back. I put it into the box and finished eating, afterward, I got ready for bed, putting the ring on, then going to bed.
