Chapter Five: Night Terrors

Chapter Five:

Michael's head slumped against my shoulder and he immediately passed out. I gripped onto him tighter, feeling the water begin to soak through all my layers of clothes. Arron along with the rest of the party goers stood at the pools edge watching us. For once in Arron's life, I think he actually felt bad about something he did.

"Oh my god... Is he alive?" He asked me as I walked towards the edge. Holden and Jared appeared again with towels.

"Yes, but he passed out. We need to get him to a hospital or something," I muttered. I climbed out of the water, pulling Michael out along with me. I took multiple towels from Holden and Jared, beginning to dry myself and Michael off as much as I could.

"Are you sure that's necessary? I mean... What's the worst that could've happened to him, sucked in a bit of water?" Arron asked nervously.

"Lack of oxygen to the brain is a very serious medical case, Arron. His organs could've began to shut down," I countered, beginning to stand up.

"Right..." He muttered.

I called out for Geoff and he stepped forward, along with Jack and Ryan. Jack and Geoff each wrapped one of Michael's arms around their shoulders before leaving the party. We all piled into Geoff's car, me, Michael and Jack in the back seat with Geoff and Ryan up front. Of course, Geoff wasn't driving seen as he was wasted off his arse so Ryan decided to be the DD.

Although the guys weren't too fond of being responsible for Michael, I couldn't help but not care. I didn't understand why everyone seemed to have this burning hatred towards Michael. He didn't do anything to anyone, did he?
I was eventually pulled from my thoughts as we pulled into the hospitals parking lot.

...

"So... You must be the kids that came with Michael, correct?" The doctor asked. I nodded and stood up, approaching him nervously.

"Your friend is fine. We put an oxygen mask on him and his levels are back to normal now. You can see him and he can leave at any time," The doctor said.

I smiled slightly and nodded, thanking him. He nodded and left, probably to go take care of other patients.

I turned back to the other guys and noticed that Geoff and Jack were both passed out. I looked at my watch and internally laughed when I realized it was two in the morning. I looked at Ryan and gave him a kind smile in which he returned.

"You want to wake up those two idiots and I'll get Michael?" I asked him.

"What are we doing with Michael?" Ryan asked me.

"Taking him home, duh. He lives across the street from me," I told him.

He said something else after that but I simply ignored it as I cheerfully walked down the hall the doctor disappeared down. I remembered the room number one of the nurses gave me and I found it and knocked on the door.

"What," A voice growled.

I poked my head in and saw Michael sitting on a hospital bed, annoyance present on his face. I gave him a cheerful smile and walked in, standing in front of him.

"The doctor said you can leave," I told him.

"I know that," He growled.

"Well, let's go! My friend is gonna give us a ride back to our houses and-," I started.

"I'm walking. Nobody's giving me a ride anywhere," Michael said, standing up and wobbling a bit.

"Mi-cool, you almost drowned. I'm sure walking is the last thing you want to do," I said.

"Did you just call me 'Mi-cool'," Michael growled, annoyance sparking in his words.

"No, I said Mi-cool," I said, confusion laced in my own words.

"You just did it again," Michael growled.

"Oh... I'm sorry. I guess it's my accent. I say words differently sometimes," I said, smiling again at my uniqueness.

"Yeah, okay, whatever. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way," Michael growled.

"You're not walking," I told him.

"And who's gonna stop me?" He countered.

"Well... Me, obviously," I responded. Michael laughed in a mocking sort of way.

"Right. I'd like to see you try," Michael said, shoving past me and walking out of the room.

"Well, if you won't let my friend give you a ride then I'm walking with you," I said, walking side by side with him down the hospital hallway.

"Like hell you are," Michael growled, giving me a glare.

"Yes I am. And guess what, my friend. You can't stop me from that," I said, teasing him a bit.

"I'm not your friend," Michael said simply.

"Alright fine. My acquaintance," I said, giggling slightly.

Michael just rolled his eyes and pulled up his hood that was still slightly damp from the pool water as he walked into the night.

I texted Ryan telling him to go on without me. He responded with a simple okay and I slipped my phone back in my pocket and continued to walk alongside Michael.

I could literally feel the tension between us. Michael obviously wasn't pleased with having me come along with him. However if someone offered to walk with me I'd be quick to accept their offer. Why was Michael different?

"I never realized how pretty the night is. It's unfortunate that people don't admire the night as much as they admire the day," I said, gazing into the night sky.

Michael said nothing but I noticed his anger dim a bit on his face. I smiled slightly and clasped my hands together, thinking of something else to say.

"Which do you prefer, Mi-cool? The night or the day?" I asked.

"Can you not talk," Michael requested, sending me a pointed glare.

My happiness dimmed a bit as I realized I said the wrong thing. I sighed and continued to walk alongside him, quietly this time.

Eventually, I was surprised to hear Michael break the silence this time.

"I prefer the night," He said.

"Really? How so?" I asked.

Again Michael stayed silent so I didn't push him further. Maybe he had a deep and personal reason why he liked the night better, in which case, I had no right to intrude on such a thought.

"I prefer the day. Call me childish but I've always been scared of the dark," I told him, looking up at the stars and the moon. Michael didn't say anything for a moment but he did give me a quick side glance.

"How come?" He asked.

"Oh... You know... Cause the darks scary. You never know who or what could be lurking out there," I told him.

I suddenly felt a shiver run up my spine as I recalled a time when I was unable to fall asleep with the lights off. I felt my heart beat speed up and my hands begin to shake but I quickly took a deep breath and prevented the panic attack.

Michael watched me with curiosity for a moment before immediately looking away and resuming his dead stare into the night. I sighed quietly, wishing I could open up to someone about my deepest secrets and thoughts because God knew I couldn't tell any of the guys. But, for now, they must lurk inside me until I find someone I can trust enough with those secrets.

"Okay, we're here," Michael growled. He immediately walked away, however not to his door like I had expected him to. Instead he stared up at his window and began to climb onto the trees next to the house. He carefully walked across a branch and opened his window, climbing into it.

I shook my head and smirked, knowing the feeling of having to sneak back into a house. I walked across the street, over to my house. I unlocked the door and walked inside, closing the door as quietly as I could.

"Nice of you to come home," My mum said, flicking the light on.

"Oh... Hello mum," I said, feeling my face flush red.

"Do you realize what time it is? You said you would be home before midnight," My mum said, crossing her arms.

"I know but some things came up," I said, rubbing the back of my neck.

"And by that, he means he was busy having sex," My brother said, laughing.

"No! That's not what I meant!" I growled, feeling my face turn hot again.

"See, look at him blush!" My brother said, laughing even harder.

"I don't care what you were doing, Gavin. This isn't England. You can't stay out all night here. For all I know you could've been kidnapped," My mum said.

"Yeah, but I'm not," I said.

"Gavin, please don't do this," She said, rubbing her head. She came closer to me and put her hands on my shoulders.

"Next time please let me know if you're gonna be late. You have a phone for a reason," My mum told me. I nodded and gave her a small smile.

"I will. I'm sorry," I whispered. She smiled and kissed my head gently before letting me go upstairs.

Once I was in my room I changed out of my clothes and crawled into bed. I sighed and stretched, turning onto my side.

"Gavin, are you still awake?" My mum asked me. I turned back over and nodded, watching her come over to me.

"You'd tell me if you had a girlfriend or boyfriend right?" She asked me. I blushed and nodded, looking away.

"So... What about the boy you were walking with. What's he to you?" She asked me.

"Nothing. Or... I guess he's an acquaintance," I said.

"You guess?" She asked me, sitting on my bed and gently putting her hand on my side.

"I don't know. He's kind of weird. Not the friendliest, stuff like that," I told her. My mum smiled at me and brushed my hair out of my face.

"Well, if anyone can become his friend, I'm sure you can. You've always been good at that," My mum said fondly before kissing my head and leaving my room again.

Once she closed the door, I flipped onto my back and looked at my desk. My homework for over break sat there untouched. I figured I'd probably start on it tomorrow.

I thought back to the English assignment I had. I began thinking of what I would write and I smiled, going over to my desk, grabbing a paper and writing some of my thoughts down.

Once I was satisfied with that, I went back to bed and finally fell asleep, letting my thoughts drift back to Michael.

Yo. Fifth chapter is finally up. Not as dramatic as the last one but I still like it nonetheless.
Please let me know what you thought. This book is one of my favorites to write and I'd really like to know if you like it as well.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
