Chapter 1
~Maggie's POV~
"Mom?" I asked.
"Yes baby?" My mom replied.
"I want a son. Do you think the baby will be a boy?" I asked.
I was six months pregnant. My husband and I divorced two months prior. I didn't want to give up the baby, though I wasn't sure how I was going to take care of him or her.
My mom sighed. "Oh Maggie baby. I don't know. I just hoped its healthy," she said. I nodded and went back to tending my pumpkin patch. I lived on a farm with my parents. I worked at pulling the weeds. Suddenly, I saw a sickly looking small pumpkin.
"Mom? Can I repot this one?" I asked.
She looked over at the pumpkin. She shook her head and said, "It's not worth it. It won't grow." I scowled at my mom. I felt like it was worth it.
"I'm gonna try! It deserves a chance!" I snapped.
Mom stared at me. I took a spade and a large pot. I rubbed the dirt off of the pumpkin. I smiled as I placed the little pumpkin in the pot.
"Night baby," I whispered to the pumpkin.
A few weeks later at the doctor's office, I found out I lost the baby. I was heartbroken. It had been a little boy. I didn't even get to see him.
I went home, locked myself in my bedroom and stayed there for a few days. I had brought my little pumpkin into my room. One night, out of my sorrow, I saw a shooting star and wished that I could have a new son.
"I wish my little pumpkin would turn into a boy," I wished. I had grown to love the little pumpkin like a real baby.
I watched the pumpkin. Nothing happened. I sighed and went to bed.
~Pumpkin's POV~
I moved and felt something was happening. I opened my eyes. I saw my vines had turned into legs and arms. I patted my stem. I was still attached too my roots.
I sighed and tugged on my stem. I wanted to find my mommy. The lady who wished I was a boy. My stem wouldn't budge. I growled and kicked the pot.
"OUCH!" I scream out in pain.
"Mhmm? Who's there?" Some one asked.
"Mommy?" I asked cautiously.
The lady sat up super fast. She stared at me. I stared back in fear.
"Is it really you?" She asked.
I nodded.
~Maggie's POV~
"It's me mommy," the little pumpkin boy said.
"My baby!" I cried as I dove out of my bed and scooped him up into my arms.
"Mommy! My stem!" He cried out in pain.
"Oh! Let me cut it," I said setting him on the floor. I quickly cut the stem and held my son in my arms.
"Mommy I'm hungry," he said.
I smiled. "Let's find you something," I said.
