Episode One, Part 2:
P r o p h e c y
Dreea and Kodiak walked steadily through the forest in search of the area where Kane and the group were last spotted. There didn't seem to be anyone else around, until they began heading east - in the direction that would eventually take them to Blood Riders if they kept on walking.
Dreea could hear the distance hum of voices - an initial worry that they were Riders, but she knew she had to find it out for herself who they really were. Her and Kodiak crept closer, peaking out from behind the trees to observe their findings.
She immediately recognized Kane from the sighting the previous day in the woods, and now, even with a clearer view of the group, she was still not able to figure out who they were.
Between them, Kodiak and Dreea counted 14 people altogether; if anything were to happen, it would be a close fight. Maybe they could fight them off, but that was only if these people didn't have any skill in combat, which was unlikely considering they had walked into unfamiliar territory.
Dreea sighed, frustrated when she weighed up how much could go wrong. She turned to Kodiak for advice.
"How should we approach?"
The boy bit down on his lip, shifting his weight between his feet. "Let them hear us so we don't get them by surprise." He suggested.
"And no visible weapons, either. Otherwise that's all they'll see, and they'll think we come as a threat."
Dreea nodded, accepting his plan and tucking her sword into her waistband. Beside her, Kodiak did the same, initiating the step forward onto their path. It was only moments later that they were spotted, or their footsteps heard, and someone from the group was alerting everybody to their presence.
Suddenly, a girl stood up. She had dark skin and long flowing hair, and a coldness in her eyes that pierced through Kodiak and Dreea as she obstructed their path. Behind her, three more people followed, seemingly backing up who appeared to be their leader.
"Who are you?" She asked them. "What are you doing here?"
"We're the Sovereigns of Basilisk. I'm Kodiak, this is Dreea." The boy announced. "We saw you wandering around our lands yesterday and came to find out who you are."
"And what you want." Dreea added, echoing the girl's own words.
"My name is Rhea, and this," her words were harsh as she gestured around her, "is the City of Targo."
"City?" Kodiak asked, confused by the title. After all, there were only 14 people he could see.
"Don't be discouraged by our numbers." Rhea added. "There's hundreds more where we came from."
Sensing her attempt at intimidation, Dreea smirked, challenging her authority. "Likewise."
Rhea wasn't fond of her respond, stepping forward up to challenge her. Suddenly, Kodiak jumped in front of Dreea a little - not worried about his friend, but for Rhea who - with any right mind - wouldn't try to oppose her wrath.
"Everybody calm down." Kodiak spoke, trying to keep his voice level. "We didn't come for a fight."
"Then what do you want?"
"Kane Bell." Dreea declared, beating Kodiak to it.
Slowly, everyone looked over at the man who was mentioned, following Dreea's lead, unsure how she knew who he was without waiting for anyone else to find him.
Upon hearing his name, Kane looked up at Dreea, gulping, unsure what he was supposed to do. He stuttered incomprehensible words as he stood up, hesitating as he moved to stand behind Rhea.
"I'm Kane." He told them. "H-how do you know who I am?"
"Your family are a part of Basilisk." Kodiak answered. "We have most of them with us from when we opened the Bunker. Ares, Quill..." He trailed off, not seeing the need to elaborate.
The people behind Rhea broke into chatter, as if the news was puzzling, as if they were expecting something, but the answer wasn't it. There was one voice in particular that struck Kodiak - seeming to linger in his bones a little while longer than the rest, setting off red flags in his mind.
"What about the girl?" It was lost somewhere in all the noise, and Kodiak couldn't figure out who it had came from, but he couldn't shake it from his head.
"Martha, Quill... Elara?" Kane asked. There was a quiver to his lip, cracking his fingers nervously in his hands as he waited for the answer. A name he seemed almost to afraid to say.
Dreea looked over at Kodiak when he didn't respond, confused why he was suddenly not answering.
"Not Martha." Dreea announced, slowly peeling her eyes away from Kodiak. "But the other two, yes."
Rhea turned to Kane for what could have only been clarification, but it grew suspicion among the Sovereigns, like even from what they knew about Rhea - which wasn't much - it didn't make sense for her to want that from him.
Kane nodded towards his leader, then shifted his attention back to the Sovereigns.
"We'll go back with you so we can see them."
"We?" Kodiak finally broke from his thoughts. "What does anyone else have to do with it?"
"I-I..." He couldn't think of a response.
"If they're his family, they belong with him, don't they?" Rhea asked.
The panic grew inside of Kodiak at her question. He gulped a little, praying that Dreea would realize something was wrong.
As she glanced over at him, seeing the sweat on his forehead, Dreea knew what to do.
"The Bunker Clan is of the past. His family are Basilisk now, that makes them part of our family. If you want to meet them, you'll do it on our terms."
"Time and place, and I'll meet them." Kane jumped the bullet, cutting in before Rhea could speak out against their offer.
"East side of the river. It's about a mile from here - you can't miss it. This time tomorrow." Dreea informed them.
Rhea glared down the Sovereign, reluctant to accept her deal. She chewed on her lip, breathing deeply as she weighed out her options.
"Fine. But you can't come armed. Otherwise the deal's off."
"Fine." Dreea repeated, already conspiring a plan in her head as Kodiak wavered beside in doubt, wondering if she knew what she was agreeing to.
She turned around, initiating the break away from Rhea and her people, and walked away with Kodiak, her guard up the entire time. Needless to say, Dreea didn't trust them.
