Chapter 5: Mario's Return
~💀~
(Name) walked through the sidelines of the stadium with a hesitant look on her face.
"Hey, (Name)!" A familiar female voice called.
Just then, Joaquina plopped down in front of (Name), wearing her captain's uniform and sombrero on her head.
(Art is not mine and belongs to 9emilecharlie9 on tumblr)
"No retreat." She smiled, quoting their old phrase as kids. (I headcanon her voice to be Scarlett Johansson :3)
(Name) chuckled. "No surrender."
Joaquina held out a hand for (Name) to shake, only for the (hair color) girl to hug the Captain.
"The heroine of San Ángel returns!" (Name) laughed as she hugged her childhood best friend.
"Oh, come on. You didn't think I was gonna miss your first little bullfight, did you?"
"And Mario's here too!"
Joaquina squealed and took off her hat. "Have you seen him? I cannot wait to show off these babies!" She smiled as she pointed at her medals.
"Oh, so he's back only to see you?" (Name) smirked, crossing her arms.
"Oh, come on. That's not..."
"You have your medals, I have the bullring." (Name) chuckled. "We'll see which one Mario prefers."
"It's a good thing you're finally taking bullfighting seriously." Joaquina stated.
(Name) laughed. "You should see me in the bullring! That's where I really do my thing now. A true Sánchez woman."
"That's some big shadows we live under, huh?"
"Huge."
Trumpets blared, and Joaquina turned around and began to walk out to the stadium. She then turned to (Name) with a sad smile.
"Hey, sis. May the best woman win Mario." She said before putting her sombrero back on her head and heading into the stadium.
"In honor of Mario's return from Europe, the town received a rare visit from its most noble daughter...who was now a decorated hero."
Joaquina smiled as she stood in the middle of the stadium and listened to the crowd chanting her name. She took her cape off her shoulder and dropped it on the ground.
"They say Joaquina goes from town to town saving them from bandits!" Old Man Hemingway told.
Joaquina whistled for her horse, which immediately came to her call and swooped her away.
Carlos rolled his eyes at Joaquina's ego.
As Joaquina rode on her horse, she laughed and flexed her muscles for everyone to see.
She passed by the Four Soldiers who was wearing sombreros and swooped them away, holding all of them in one hand.
She jumped in the air and autographed all of them before tossing the sombreros back on the Soldiers' heads.
Joaquina landed back on her horse with a prideful smirk as the audience continued cheering for her.
~💀~
Nobody in the stadium saw La Muerte and Xibalba watching the show from the top of the building.
Now that Mario was back in town and their girls were older, it was finally time for the wager to take full speed and see who Mario would marry.
"Yes! That's my girl!" Xibalba grinned as he watched Joaquina doing tricks.
~💀~
Joaquina's horse launched to her to the watching booth where General Posada was, with a great view of the staidum.
Joaquina waved to the crowd and blew kisses as they continued cheering her name.
"Afternoon, my general." Joaquina greeted General Posada, taking off her hat and taking a seat next to him. "That is a mighty mustache you have."
A wave of silence and gasps came over the stadium when the sound of footsteps came from the sidelines.
"Huh?" A man wearing glasses removed his glasses, revealing his smaller pair of glasses.
A male figure wearing a turquoise and yellow sombrero walked through the sidelines. He held the tip of sombrero down to avoid the hot sun, covering his face.
He was wearing a fancy white shirt, red pants decorated with yellow and flower outlines, and brown shoes. Around his neck was a gold necklace.
Trotting next to him as he made his way was a large pig with a collar around his neck.
This man was no other than Mario Posada.
"As expected, everyone in town was curious to see how the young Mario had grown."
A couple of woman curtsied and lowered their head as Mario passed by them, making the men next to them give a jealous look.
"The jewel of the town has returned!" One of the four guards exclaimed as Mario walked by him and the three other guards.
When Mario came by the Four Nuns with two orphan children, he bent down and petted the orphan girl's head, making the little girl smile up at the handsome man.
"And he's going to be helping at the orphanage." Sister Ana smiled in appreciation as Mario petted the Orphan Boy's head next.
"I heard he reads book, like, for fun!" A man about Mario's age whispered to his friend.
"No way!" His friend exclaimed.
Mario then made his way to the watching box where Joaquina and General Posada was. Chuy sat on the floor next to Mario.
"Señor Posada." Joaquina greeted with a nod as Mario took a seat in between her and General Posada.
Seeing a sombrero was no longer needed, Mario removed his hat, revealing his handsome face. He had dark brown hair tied in a small ponytail and bright copper-red eyes.
(Art credit once again goes to 9emilecharlie9, please support the original artist on tumblr)
"Hola, Joaquina." He smiled. "It's really nice to see you!" He whispered, knowing it had been ten years since they last saw each other.
(My voice claim for Mario is Pedro Pascal, so you can try to picture him as his voice)
Joaquina didn't respond, she just stared at Mario with her jaw open, shocked at how handsome he had grown to be.
All of the woman in the audience fawned over Mario's good looks. The men however were jealous of Mario taking away the woman's attention.
~💀~
Xibalba grumbled when he noticed La Muerte staring at Mario with wide eyes.
La Muerte just smirked. "Jealous, my love~?"
"No! I was just-I-I-" Xibalba began to stutter, making La Muerte chuckle at how cute he was.
~💀~
The Mariachi sisters played music as (Name) stepped out into the stadium, a nervous look on her face.
"And they say (Name) might be the greatest Sánchez ever!" Old Man Hemingway exclaimed.
A serious look came on (Name)'s face, she snatched the muleta on her shoulder and looked up at the crowd.
~💀~
"YEAH!!! THAT'S MY GIRL!!" La Muerte cheered as she clapped for her girl.
Xibalba cleared his throat annoyingly.
"What?"
~💀~
"I would like to dedicate this corrida, to Sir Mario Posada!" (Name) announced as she gestured over to Mario in the watching box.
Mario just grumbled in disapproval. It wasn't that he wasn't happy to see (Name), he was actually ecstatic to see her.
But he was disappointed she wasn't a musician like she always dreamed to be.
"Welcome home...señor." (Name) bowed elegantly, noticing Mario's scowl.
Just then, a growling was heard from behind a door. It shook and shook, until a giant angry-looking bull emerged from behind the door.
Pepa screamed in fright. "I'M ALLERGIC TO DYING!"
"Especially in the face!" Pancha agreed before the three sisters hid behind a fence.
"VENGA, TOROTE! VENGA!" (Name) yelled as she waved her muleta.
Carlos clamped his hands together tensely, an expecting yet anxious look in his face.
"VENGA!" (Name) screamed, flicking her muleta.
The Bull charged towards (Name)'s red cloth, only for her to spin around and swiftly dodge the Bull.
The audience cheered and began to throw roses to (Name).
From the watching box, Joaquina clapped for her best friend. She glanced at Mario, who was staring down at (Name), watching her carefully. She noticed a small smile on his face.
"Now that's a Sánchez!" Carlos exclaimed in pride.
(Name) picked up one of the roses on the ground and held it out towards Mario.
Mario smiled, but then his eyes widened in horror when he saw the bull charging behind (Name).
"(NAME)!" Mario screamed, reaching a hand out to the (hair color) woman, in fear she would get hurt.
(Name) just smirked and completely flipped over the bull, the rose falling with her.
(Name) landed on her knees, sliding on the sand. The rose floated down towards her, she caught it swiftly with her teeth, a grin on her face.
"Wow..." Mario gushed before letting out a laugh. Joaquina nodded her head with an impressed smile.
"That's my daughter!" Carlos praised with pride.
(Name) held her muleta out to the bull as it charged towards her, Mario watched with a fearful expression.
(Name) laughed as she kept waving her muleta around, making the Bull go in different directions.
The audience cheered when the Bull ran away. When the dust from the sand cleared, Mario's name was revealed to be written in the sand in neat cursive writing.
Mario gasped and then laughed, feeling flattered by his childhood c̶r̶u̶s̶h̶ friend.
Carlos laughed in pride.
(Name) bowed to Mario, making him smile. Joaquina glanced at Mario nervously and kept glancing at him and (Name).
(Name) smiled and waved as the audience chanted her name, all of them impressed by her and enjoying the show.
(Name) continued waving to the crowd as she walked over to her father, who held out a sword to her.
"Come on, Mija. For me." Carlos pleaded. "For our family! Be a Sánchez!"
(Name) hesitantly took the sword, Mario's eyes widened in horror.
(Name) positioned the sword towards the Bull's heart, the blade shining in the sunlight.
The Nuns and Father Domingo blessed themselves, while Carlos squinted his eyes with an expecting look.
Mario watched (Name) with horror in his eyes. Was she actually going to kill the bull?
As (Name) held her sword out, she glanced at her reflection in the blade.
And then, she saw Mario.
He looked absolutely petrified.
What was she doing?
"No." (Name) whispered. She stabbed the sword on the sand. "KILLING THE BULL IS WRONG!"
Carlos and Mario gasped. Carlos had gasped in anger, while Mario had gasped in relief.
Mario jumped out of his seat and clapped with a proud smile.
(Name) stood still as the Bull charged towards her, she placed her muleta on the bull's face as it charged past her, making the Bull run into the seats and cause the audience to jump.
Carlos sighed and banged his head on the fence.
"See? I told you she no do it." Anita said.
The crowd began booing for (Name) and throwing things at her, Mario was the only one applauding for her.
"Bravo! Bravo!" Mario cheered as he clapped his hands.
"We don't have to kill the bull!" (Name) tried to tell the crowd, only for them to keep harassing her.
Mario growled at the rude people and was about to say something, only for his father to drag him away.
"Oh, no. (Name)..." Mario whispered as he was dragged towards the door. Joaquina and Chuy followed after him.
(Name) glanced at Mario sadly. "Adios, Mario." She whispered.
She grunted when she felt her guitar hit her in the side of her head, and the world went black.
~🐂~
"(Name)..."
"(Name)..."
"GET UP!"
(Name) grunted and clutched onto her head, she looked up and saw her father and Abuela staring down at her.
(Name) rose to her feet and gave her father an apologetic look. "Papá...I'm sorry."
"Do not make it worse by apologizing!" Carlos shouted. "A Sánchez never apologizes! NEVER!"
"Ever." Anita added.
"If being a bullfighting means killing the bull...well, then I'm no bullfighter." (Name) declared softly.
"No. You are no Sánchez." Carlos said coldly. He rolled Anita's wheelchair away and left the arena.
(Name) looked at her father with wide and heartbroken eyes. She looked at the Bull, who shook his head at her.
(Name) sighed and picked up the rose on the ground and looked down at sadly.

"YES! VICTORY!" Xibalba laughed victoriously, thinking he had won the wager.
"That poor kid never had a chance, my dear. Good game, though." Xibalba held out his hand to La Muerte.
La Muerte shook her head with a smirk, one hand on her hip. "It's not over."
~🌹~
(Name) picked up her guitar and placed the rose in between the strings on the headstock.
"Ay, Mario..." She whispered, she began to play a tune Manolo had taught her before he died.
(Name) didn't see Mario sneaking in the watching booth, who had forgotten his sombrero. Hidden in the shadows, he watched as (Name) played on guitar.
(Name) then began to sing with passion, playing on her guitar with just as much passion.
Mario watched (Name) with a heavy heart, clutching his hands to his chest.
This...this was the (Name) he knew.
This was the (Name) he had fallen in love with so many years ago.
"Oh, (Name)..." Mario whispered sadly.
"Mario!" Joaquina called from behind the door.
Mario gasped and grabbed his sombrero and made his exit, glancing back at (Name) one last time.
(Name) looked at the watching booth, thinking she had heard something. Only to see no one was there. She sighed and left the arena.
~🌹~
Xibalba stared down at the arena with wide eyes and his jaw practically on the floor.
"WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!" Xibalba shouted.
La Muerte chuckled and stroked Xibalba's beard. "You don't understand romance, my love~"
~💀~
I did not write "Creep" because I didn't want to embarrass you, (Name), and myself.
And Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 did "Creep" better. Sorry not sorry 🥱
