Twilight Is The Devil's Friend
Dawn escapes down the horizon
Sweet flutterings in the air
The birds call for Poseidon
To nourish the earth with care
Pink cotton candy clings to the sun
Seagulls chasing after their burnt sugar
Full of stars, twilight will come
The line between light and dark is severed
The coolest breeze like a soft caress
The air is frozen within silver cobwebs
Milky with dew, roses fall asleep
As the pregnant moon is bled by their thorns
Ivy cascades down hidden palaces
They follow the hills
That chase the malices
Of demons beneath the still
The peace before the stars cut
The last lovely letter before the fire
And as the golden gates are shut
Soon you will grow tired
Run run to the comfort of your bed
Lock your windows and doors
(We dance we dance we dance)
Soon the streets will run red
For eternity and forevermore
Fairies poke their heads out of the hydrangeas
Their teeth ache for fun
Cupid basks in the havoc mania
(If you still bask in the sunshine)
You better run you better run
Crisp, the air is heady perfume
Flowers that taste too sweet
Wine sloshed with cherry blooms
As hooves and dirty toes stomp to a terrible beat
I am a beast who has hidden beneath honeyed soil
Thousands of years I have waited
To taste sweet trouble and toil
My hunger will finally be...sated
Come a little closer
Don't be shy
I warned you once
I won't warn you twice
So you ask?
I wear jewels because I once was something great
I wear a crown because I once was something terrible
To the roasting of the moon I am never late
Your fear is almost tangible
Do you see the jowls,
Marked with rotting teeth?
Do you see the blood-thirst,
Drawing nearer to your feet?
(I was always beautiful that way)
Dragging paws and uprooting the peonies
Crushed velvet petals and cotton candy gone dry
The howls are the earth's symphonies
I devour its cries
Shout and claw at your grave
Caterpillars squirm beneath your spine
Watch in horror as the ground caves
...You're mine.
